Super Mario Brothers 3 Review

By Misty Koopa

This will be graded on a scale of one to ten, one being lousy, ten being awesome.

Graphics: 9

This has some of the best graphics of its time. They're just dang cool-looking. The reason the score's not higher is that while they did good on most of the enemies (and the good guys), like Bowser and Goomba, they messed up on the Koopalings and on Peach.

Music: 10

I love the music! One of my favorites is underwater; it's a lot like the Mario 1 music, except a lot calmer. And I like how they made underground sound like rap. It's similar to the original, but a lot neater. In fact, they took Grass Land's music and put it into a newer game!

Size: 10

No doubt about it, this is a BIG game! Ice Land is easily the largest world, and Grass Land is easily the smallest. It takes a long time to beat this game even if you try to cheat. It took me 3 1/2 to 4 hours to beat this the FIRST time!

Secrets: 10

This is one game full of secrets. You can get coin ships, secret Toad Houses, Spade Panels, Magic Whistles, and 1-Up Mushrooms. There are even weird shapes, like how the number "3" appears three times in this game and how the last part of Water Land, the part with the fortress, looks like Japan. I don't even think I could figure 'em all out.

Difficulty: 7

This is the one fault of the game; it's REALLY hard. It took me most of my life to beat it, without school, detentions, holidays, and vacations. And I have an older sibling that got to play it long before me and she couldn't beat the game in the time the NES was hers. It probably would've taken me a lot longer but I remembered all the times I've watched my sister play.

Replay Value: 10

This is one game you won't wanna put down. And even after you've beaten it, you wanna try and beat your score (record your scores on paper). Personally, I'd wait until summer so you can play it forever.

And finally, Fun Factor!: 10

This is a very fun game. Even though the graphics are a bit messed up and it's hard, you'll still have fun every time playing it. This is one of the best games of all time.

Recommendation

I highly recommend this game if you have an NES that still works. And if you don't have an NES, try and get a good one. Some of the best  characters of all time, like the Koopalings, are in this game. This is something great, though I imagine you'll have a tough time finding this game. But if you do manage to find this game, have fun!
