Super Mario Strikers Review

By Dasina-chan

Hello, adoring fanfolks! I know, I haven't been on in a while... but now that school's out, we don't need to worry about those nasty C's and incredibly occasional D's, do we? Well, at least I've returned to my throne, and with my annual month-long daddy-visit coming up, I'll be on more than ever!!! Today I've decided to Review that one game Super Mario Strikers. Why? Stop asking me stupid questions and let me write my Review, will you? Scale of 0-11, because the highest number of goals I've made to beat the CPU was 11. Weird, I know.

Graphics: 9

They were pretty darn average. One point of interest is the badness of the super strikes. It kind of reminds me of a little kid making his/her first movie: a piece of cardboard painted with fingerpaint and one of those giant crayola paintbrushes to create a really bad-looking background. Daisy looked like she had fangs with her little captain face-off thing at the beginning. And I think they made Peach and Daisy's outfits a little too skimpy. However, the sketches in the guidebook are awesome, and I love the underground stadium. The grass in the first stadium looked awesome, and I liked how the electric fence was made. The good and the bad even each other out pretty well.

Sound: 3

Voices were pretty normal, Daisy's still has her competitive edge in it, Yoshi's is outstandingly cute, Toad and Birdo's still manage to annoy me to death, Peach's sounds like she got into a near-fatal helium accident. But the robots. Oh, my God, the robots. I cannot stand that blargish voice. Every time my cousins pick them I am ready to blow their heads off. And I hate the terrible "Press Start" screen music. I also hate the annoying whistle, and I hate the annoying horn, and I hate the crowd cheering. I swear if Yoshi and Daisy weren't in this game I would kill something because of the sound.

Controls: 8

I think I learned an interesting lesson in this game. Soccer game controls take some time getting used to. If I stop playing for even a week, I will forget that A is for passing, not for shooting. I kept on trying to "pass" the ball to my teammate, and I ended up making a goal. Cool, unless you are on the other side of the field, and you end up giving the ball to the other team. Which, by the way, happens a lot for me, unless I've been playing religiously like I should. I like using the R button (trigger, button, same thing) to run fast. I feel like I'm in control when using trigger buttons. I am getting better at hitting people, which, by the way, you should try near an electric fence. You can shove them into the fence and they get electrocuted! My dad got more of a kick out of that than he should have :)

Characters: 5

Not so good here, Nintendo! I mean, Daisy and Luigi are there, but what else is new?! You can have four really bad sidekicks (well, I guess the Hammer Bros. are ok), and the unlockable character? Some ugly robots! I wish that it could have been Boo! Those robots are an insult to everything Nintendo and cool! I also would have liked to make my own team using the method Mario Superstar Baseball used. I can see it now, Daisy, Luigi, Boo, Yoshi, and Bowser. Oh, did I mention that Bowser wasn't even a playable charactar? He just jumped down every so often and scared you! Talk about degrading!

Fun/Humor: 10

I liked seeing the captains do their pre-game faceoff! Sometimes the combos can be funny! Especially with Peach and Daisy. Daisy's is "Yeah? YEAH?! Hmph!" and Peach's is "Oh yeah?" and she makes a bunch of wierd noises. Also they're both acting a little bit too... well, it's not good. Neither of them deserve to have to do that. But it's still funny! If they're both facing off, the one who starts has to say "Yeah" before anyone else said anything! And if they go first even when they're not facing each other it's the same thing. When they go second, it's especially wierd. Like in a Daisy vs. Luigi mtch, Luigi will stretch. Daisy will start her "Yeah? YEAH?!" and it's kinda wierd. The funniest thing in the game is when you knock someone into the electric fence. My dad was a huge fan of that. The game was also really fun. I loved trying to beat the computer, the tension it caused made me to forget my other problems. The happiness when I finally won the either relieving or anxiety-causing time limit were great. This game was just incredibly fun!

Overall: (does math) Eek!  7

This game is worth renting. Don't bother buyng it, like silly me did when I could have bought an awesome anime. It's fun, but if you spend too much time playing it, you'll only end up with a dead zombie mind, a warm seat, and aching fingers. If you want to pay again after you rent it, just rent it again. DO NOT BUY. Get yourself a nice anime instead :)
