Rated: E
System: N64

This was the very first Zelda game I ever played. Well, beat. I loved it overall, and I thought maybe there are some people who don't have it. This is why this Review is here. As always, I will grade on a 1-10 scale.

Story: 8
Now even though this is the first Zelda game I ever beat, it doesn't mean I don't know the original story of Zelda. This is a unique story, too. First of all, it takes place in Termina rather then Hyrule. A weird imp kid known as the Skull Kid had got the moon to leave its orbit and crash into Termina. Then Link must relive a three day sequence to keep this from happening. For example, if he doesn't get the job done in three days, he must play the Song of Time to travel back and restart. Anyway, I gave this a high grade because it took place in another land, and it has a very different storyline to it.

Graphics: 9
The graphics are very amazing. For N64, they are actually excellent. Link seems to have no polygons, and the land looks real at times. I give Nintendo great credit for this one. In fact, the only reason I deducted a point is because I personally thought DK64 had the best graphics on N64.

Controls: 7
The controls are surprisingly simple. In this game you run, jump, and use arrows, bombs, a shield, a sword, and other various things. Somehow Nintendo made it easy. You use C-Up, C-Right, and C-Left for all of your items. A is for your sword, and you jump automatically when you run off a ledge. I though they were very easy to get used to also. This couldn't get better then a 7 because there are many items to be used and it would be hard to do this. It was slightly difficult, but there was really no other way to make them THAT simple with that many items, weapons, etc.

Gameplay: 6
This maybe disappointed me a little. Ok, you only go through four dungeons, which isn't a good thing (unless you count the Moon as a dungeon.) Another thing after playing other Zelda games is it seems it's the same old things: Maps, Compasses, mini bosses, sword upgrades, shield uprgrades. Now the gameplay outside the dungeons was ok. You do various chores for townfolk which does have something to do with the time of the game (you might have to do a certain errand for a certain person at a certain time). Exploring's fun as you collect Pieces of Hearts, items, etc. Also saving's strange. To save, you must either save on an owl statue, and you WILL resume on that SAME day too. Or you can do option two. You can play the Song of Time, which will save your MAIN progress and bring you back to the first day. Here's the catch about the Song of Time. When you do this, I said MAIN progress, not including chores, and small events like that. These will be erased so you will have to do them over again. You'll see what I mean. Overall I liked the gameplay, but the bosses and the temples disappointed me so much. The best part about the gameplay, though, which is very original, was the usage of masks, which I'll put under the character and item sections.

Music: 7
I liked the music. The Clock Town theme was smooth and relaxing. You have the original Zelda them in the Termina lands. Then you have the indoor, peaceful theme. In fact, I always did love Zelda themes since this game. The only themes that didn't impress me were the boss ones. I liked the temples, but all the bosses had the same song, excluding Majora's Mask: the final boss. Oh well, I still thought it was great anyway.

Difficulty: 6
This also was another bad factor about the game. The game is decently long for any other game, but very short for a Zelda game. Come on, FOUR temples? Anyway, it's also easy to get through. I don't think I was hardly ever stuck at all in the game, which is rare for a Zelda series game. The bosses are easy except the last two in the game. In fact, the only hard temple is the very last one of the measly four. Now if you're looking for an entire completion of the game, this is a bit more difficult. It's not easy beating the game as a whole, but just beating it to get through it is too easy. Bad job, Nintendo.

Characters: 8
Another great part. You'll meet Tingle a strange character indeed who will sell maps. The townsfolk are cool people. There are Great Fairies too who upgrade your abilities. Here's the wonderful part: Link has four different characters. He can, by wearing the Deku Mask, transform into a Deku Shrub. He then has his certain abilities used for certain parts of the game. Then he has a Goron mask. He has abilities then, too. He can become a Zora, and he can be himself also. I though this was great how Nintendo gave Link the option to be whatever he wants. There are also many other masks that give you abilities that I will mention below. Talk about ORIGINALITY!

Items: 8
The items were just fine. Bombs, arrows, new sword upgrades, new shield upgrades, powder kegs, etc. These were all great items indeed! Now with the masks. You will get the Great Fairy's mask, which allows Link to help stray fairies in temples. You also get the Bunny Hood, which allows Link to run a lot faster (think of SSBM). Then you get to also wear the Stone Mask, which makes you invisible to enemies. Then you have masks that you HAVE to wear, or could wear to do sidequests. Sidequests include the Postman's hat, which allows Link to retrieve a certain letter for a sidequest. Then he gets to wear the Kafei's Mask for several sidequests to find even more masks. Then the mask you HAVE to wear to beat the fourth boss is the Fierce Deity's mask. This makes Link HUGE and offers the same voice as in the Ocarina of Time game when Link is an adult. This was a wonderful job Nintendo did.

Replayability: 9
As usual, Zelda games have a very high replay value. After you beat the game, you'll of course want to beat all the sidequests and secrets. There is a lot of stuff to do in this game. There's nothing else to say, really.

Secrets: 1
Well I guess Zelda games don't offer a lot of unlockables. You unlock nothing in the game, and don't discover anything cool. The only secret thing is when there is this one part of the game where you must have every Piece of Heart and Heart Container. Then you must fight this guy or whatever. That's it. No more secrets!

Overall: 8
This game was great. Despite its flaws, I would still buy it for a maximum of $35. Even if you've played Windwaker, Ocarina Of Time, or maybe Twilight Princess, I would still get this game. Don't waste your time, but it now while you still can (used, etc).
