Super Mario Sunshine Review

By P.T. Piranha

Okay! My first Review is for my first game I got for the GameCube. I’ll do a 1-4 scale, for the amount of Ninjakoopas, as they’re my favorite boss in Paper Mario 1. Now, you may completely disagree with me. I know I disagree with some other tourists. But it’s my opinion, based on my own gaming progress. It could be a totally different story for you readers.

Story: 4
Mario, Peach, Toadsworth, and a few Toads go to a tropical island. That’s new! And someone who looks like Mario is getting Mario in trouble. That’s an interesting concept. Now we must clean the whole island. That’s neat. And it’s somewhat a sequel to Super Mario 64, which is fine by me.

Originality: 4
Papermariofan had a good idea, and it should be spread. Reviews should have an originality section. Anyway, this is very original! Cleaning for the whole game, Peach not getting kidnapped until about mid-game, new characters, and many other things in this game are new! A lot of them reappear in future games, too! If it appeared in a platformer, it’s a good bet it’ll appear in a future Mario game.

Graphics: 4
Well, it’s the best I’ve seen so far, for now, except for Super Smash Bros. Melee. Anyway, it looks a lot better than Super Mario 64.

Characters: 4
Either I like this game, or I’m too positive, as this is my third 4 in a row. This introduced many likeable characters. Toadsworth was a fine addition. It even introduced the character my name is a pun off of, Petey Piranha! It also introduced Gooper Blooper, Piantas, Nokis, Shadow Mario, and Bowser Junior. And Fludd. And no, you’re not mistaken. I actually like Bowser Junior. He’s a Koopaling, too! Also, King Boo made a comeback. It was harder to tell which Toad was Toad, but I’m pretty sure it was the red one. The enemies were different, but that’s okay.

Moves: 3
Well, when most of the moves are pretty much just squirting, there’s not much originality. But you can still jump, and you seem a bit acrobatic. You can also ride a Yoshi around. But in the No-Fludd Zones, most of your attacks are negated.

Levels: I’m going to divide this. Also, I like how you can see other levels from some levels.

Delfino Plaza and Airstrip: 3 1/2
These were okay. The music was fine, but there could’ve been a few more enemies, at least in the plaza.

Bianco Hills: 4
Hey, this place was nice! Nice theme, nice colors, introduced my favorite boss in the game, and the episodes were easy.

Ricco Harbor: 3 1/2
Okay. I’ll get the negatives out of the way. The Blooper racing in Episode 2 could get a little hard, especially in Episode 6. But it had nice music, and it was fun to go around like in Episode 3. Now, Gooper Blooper could get a little tough, but it’s okay.

Gelato Beach: 4
Eh, it was okay. Nice and pleasant, fine music, and wasn’t all that difficult. The Cataquacks on the mirrors were a little tough, but Wiggler was okay. The Sandbird level itself could get tough, but still doable. I also like the little story that goes from Episodes 2-4.

Pinna Park: 4
Neat. 2 separate areas. Some episodes only take place in the actual park, and some take place only on the beach. It also had a nice plot development in which we first meet Bowser Jr. The episodes were nice, and Mecha Bowser was a fun and interesting fight. I don’t like Episode 6, but that’s just one thing.

Sirena Beach: 3
Okay. Manta was tough to fight, and I’m sure finding all 8 coins in the hotel could be easy. Other than that, it’s just fine. This must be what a spooky level is like when it’s on vacation. Episode 6 had a neat concept, but why not do that at other places, and how’d the beach get messy again?

Noki Bay: 2
Ah, it’s kind of boring to me. The music wasn’t exciting, Gooper Blooper’s music didn’t fit, and Eely Mouth is somewhat hard and scary. But it’s fun to climb the cliffs. However, the only other allies here are 2 Nokis, and one more Noki that appears in a later episode, but that’s not much.

Pianta Village: 3
It seems difficult, but I do like the day and night concept. It may have inspired the same concept for Mario Party 6. Episode 3 was cool, too. Episode 5 was tough, but the others seem better.

Corona Mountain: 2
It’s kind of lame to me. Just a difficult path to the final boss. The music was annoying, too. But it’s not all bad, as the cloud part was fine. Then the last battle seemed very average, in a good way. Bowser seemed bigger, though. And why were there only fire pads on the lighthouse and on the arena, but nowhere else in the whole game? Oh well.

Difficulty: 2
It was very difficult at times, but still fun. I just don’t like Sirena Beach Episode 1, and Pianta Village Episode 5. In case you’re wondering, the lower the score on this section, the worse, like all the others.

Replay Value: 4
Sure! You can play this game all you want! Even go through amd do stuff you missed! You might hesitate, remembering the hard parts, but what from what I’ve written, there’s more good than bad. But that’s my opinion.

Fun Factor!: 4
Yeah! It’s a totally new experience! Unless you fear new, or like the old kind of Mario games better, this is a fun game!

Recommendation:
Buy this game if you like Mario, tropical islands, cleaning, vandalism, and other things in this game!
