Hello, today I’m reviewing LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game for Nintendo Gamecube, a fun 3D platformer that’s based on Episodes 1-3 of the prequel trilogy.
I will be rating the major categories on a 1 to 5 star rating scale.
Graphics: **
The graphics
are rather basic, but still good-looking, in fact, they look like the graphics
from Sonic Heroes, just used to make LEGO people and vehicles.
Sound: *****
The sound is
absolutely great, using actual music and sounds from the movies, so when
you swing that lightsaber, you're going to hear a real lightsaber!
Characters: ***½
No one's perfect,
and the characters aren’t that great either, but they do resemble the actual
LEGO Mini-Figures they’re supposed to look like, so you can at least tell
the difference between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader.
Also, each character is unique in its own special way. Some can jump higher than others, some can crawl through certain vents, and some are completely useless.
Vehicles: **
The vehicles
actually do resemble the LEGO sets they’re meant to resemble. Unfortunately,
they cannot be used in free play and are only used once for each vehicle
level.
Difficulty: **½
Well, the levels
can be difficult at times, but some of them could be beaten by a cow, if
cows could play video games.
The main challenge of the game is collecting all the characters and unlocking the secret level, other than that, you could probably beat Episodes 1-3 in about a week.
Controls: ***½
The controls
are simple, but highly effective, though using the Force can be difficult
at certain points in the game.
Gameplay: ***½
The levels are
very easy to beat, except for certain levels in Episode III and Episode
II, but collecting all the secrets will make you want to play them all
over again.
Story Mode: **
These are the
main levels, where you can only play as certain characters. The levels
are 3D jump-and-run style, where you battle various enemies from that part
of the movie and try to move on to the next level, with the occasional
puzzle and maybe a boss to fight.
Free Play Mode:
***
Free Play Mode
allows you to go back to those levels, just using a wide variety of characters,
some of which are needed to find certain secrets that are un-obtainable
by the characters in Story Mode. The levels themselves are exactly the
same as in Story Mode, just without the cutscenes.
Vehicle Levels:
*
The vehicle levels
are extremely simple, you ride around in a little LEGO vehicle that resembles
the Star Wars vehicle from that moment in the movie. The level goes in
a straight path along which you much shoot enemies, which are almost always
TIE Fighters.
Replayability:
**½
While the levels
are fun, once you’ve unlocked everything, you’ll probably get bored with
the game.
Fun Factor!: ***
The game is rather
fun, with enough challenge to make you want to play through each and every
level, but once that’s done with, you’ll probably get bored with the levels.
OVERALL: ***½
I highly recommend
renting this game. If you like it enough, buy it, but don’t expect to get
much for your money: the game is dreadfully short.
