Granturismo 3: A-Spec Review

By Morton Clone

This is my first Review, and I’m only making it because I think Crazy Packers Fan (although I like his work) grades some games pretty unfairly. This is a racing game, and one of the best out there. This is for the PS2, and I grade things on a 1-10 scale.

Graphics: 10

Truly astounding. This makes Luigi’s Mansion and Mario Sunshine look like toilet paper. Just watch the opening movie and look at the graphics. Sometimes I play the game just to look at the cars in the showrooms. That’s why this gets a 10 out of 10.

Sound: 6

Not so great. It’s cool that this game let’s you turn music on and off in the options menu, and choose which ones you want to hear. I especially like the music you hear when you fail a license test.

Difficulty: 8

Pretty tough. Races aren’t that tough, except when you're doing the GT World Championship races. Races with 4 or more laps are tough too unless you're good at turning with slick tires, because races with 4 or more races will probably make you have to go to the pits, because then you’ll have to change your tires. The license is fairly easy, up until you get to the I-A License. The minus 2 is for the ridiculously easy races in which you only need the B license.

Controls: 10

Couldn’t be better, the simplest controls in the world. X is gas, Square is brake, and the never-used O button is drift (you could use it, but don’t use it if you don’t know how to use it). Then there are the obvious controls, like the start button, the analog stick, and the control pad.

Turning: 5

So-so. It could be better. It's a lot easier if you actually brake, instead of just drive off into the grass. If you make a mistake, unless you have a big lead, you’re bound to fall back a couple of positions. Also, before a turn comes, you can see a small number flashing red at the bottom right of your screen. It doesn’t tell you exactly when to brake, but I consider it a warning system.

Realism: 9

Very real. Taking everything into thought, buying parts to make your car better, the fact that they have days to record when you do things, and getting your license makes this game very real. The minus 1 is for when you crash, nothing happens, you don’t dent or anything.

Tracks: 10

So many… too many. Just too many courses, from Japan, to Seattle, there are just so many.  I just can’t take anything off.

Arcade Mode: 7

It’s ok. I just don’t get a thrill doing this mode. Ok, you race a few cars for fun, whoopee. Nothing happens. What I like about it is that it’s multiplayer, and you can use your own cars from your garage.

Simulation Mode: 10(+)

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!! BEST THING EVER! BEST OF GAME!!! The plus is for everything. From doing the license mode, to the countless races (almost 600). It’s all awesome. I love looking at the different race cars in the showrooms, I love doing all the different races (I’ve done about 200 of them). The GT Autoshop is pretty cool too. Pick your tires, clean your car, or oil it. And starting the game is fun too. I have my own strategy to get the game wrapped up in an hour. (Not beating it, but making it way easier.) If you want to know it, just Email me.

Replayability: Varies

It varies because it matters if you had fun beating it.

Fun Factor!: 10

I don’t want to repeat it, just go up to Simulation Mode if you want to see my answer.

Overall: 8.6

I love this game, and would recommend it to anyone, no matter what the cost. I recommend GT4 just as much, but not GT1 and GT2.
