Hi and welcome. This is (technically) my first Review. I will be doing the newest pokemon game to hit the DS, Pokemon Pearl! Now we know that it has a game to go with it as usual, Pokemon Diamond. This review is on a 0-5 rating. Now let's review!
Story 2/5
Well, it's just
a usual Pokemon RPG storyline. You're a trainer who sets off on his/her
journey. But an evil organization called Team Galatic wants to call upon
an ancient Pokemon (sounds like Ruby and Sapphire a bit) to create a new
world, but to do that they must kidnap 3 pokemon who are guarding 3 lakes
to create this thing called a red chain. You must stop them, battle your
rival, collect the gym badges, and defeat the Pokemon League. This gains
a point because of the new world thing.
Characters 5/5
Perfect score!
You, evil team, rival, professor, mom, legendary are too familiar. But
you have a new cast of characters. Now I'm listing it as if you are playing
like me with a male character. Dawn helps you at times. She won't fight
you, she only wants to finish her Dex. There are escorts that you
have to team up with (one does nothing, one gives you a Riolu egg that
will eventually evolve into Lucario with happiness, and one more makes
a legendary appear when you return to the area again). These you won't
see in another Pokemon game (except Ranger, which will be reviewed later).
So yeah, a good score.
Gameplay 4/5
Too simple, you
can do everything easily. In the overworld most action takes place on the
top screen, while the bottom is the Poke'tch, which is touch-controlled.
The Poke'tch is a helpful thing that is simple to use. More on it later.
The four lettered butons (A, B, Y, X) do most of stuff, which could throw
you off if you're not used to it. So 1 point off. Battle uses both screens
as well. The top is the actual battle, whilst the bottom is the battle
selections. It's pretty simple with that.
Difficulty 3/5
The gym leaders
are easy actually, the only one I dispise is the third one. SHE'S WAY TOO
TOUGH! The first two Pokemon she throws at ya are easy, but her third and
final one (Lucario) is hard! I know it was suposed to be harder but it's
pushing it. The Elite 4 is really hard for pokemon in the 40's and 50's
as well. You gotta have like pokemon in the 60's to get past the guys.
Plus the first guy in the Elite 4 is hard, and he uses... bug Pokemon.
Wait a minute, he's hard and he uses what? BUG POKEMON?! Geez... That's
too hard. I have to use items all the time on him. I swear that Bertha
is easier, and she's the second one. So yeah. That makes 6 hard people
to face. Plus Azelf and Uxie are hard to catch even with Dark Balls. (They're
in a dark cave, for cryin' out loud!) Mesprit isn't simple either. It's...
like Raikou/Entei/Suicune! And after the Elite 4 Cresilla is the same thing
as Mesprit. It's hard, but not too hard. It's standard difficulty for Pokemon.
Poke'tch: Detailed
below
Okay this will
be done in sections. It will be described in 3 catagories: Uses, How to
use, Features.
Uses: 4.9/5
It can be really
helpful. From daycare area to type match ups, it'll do a lot. And it has
clocks, caculators, and bonus stuff that can do things. Only .1 was taken
off because of the pixel draw app, which can be extremly dumb. I mean,
it doesn't reset by going into a different app. But still, it is really
helpful! One even shows where Mesprit and Cressila are.)
How to Use: 5/5
To go to a new
app, press the red button on the side, and instructions are given when
you get it, or directly on the app. So it's easy to use.
Features: 4.975/5 I guess I just covered this in the uses section. Only the pixel draw is useless as a fun one.
Legendaries: 4.9/5
They're great. Regigigas (normal type Regi and leader) is what takes that
small fraction away. He has a bad ability that hurts in battle, its Slow
start, which cuts attack and speed in half. But I bet it isn't too bad.
(I haven't beat the Elite 4 as of yet.) Here are the legendaries in groups:
Main: Palkia, Dialga (Diamond), Giratina
Trio: Mesprit,
Azelf, Uxie
Other: Cressila,
Manaphy, Fione, Regigigas
Event: Daraki,
Shaymin, Arceus
Gold/Silver/Crystal
Returns: 5/5
Returning elements!
Day and Night are back, meaning evolving Eevee into Umbreon and Espeon
is easier. (By the way, there are 2 new Eveelutions, in case ya didn't
know.) Animations are here. (Yay?) And getting Eevee from Bill returns!
(Well actually his friend Bebe gives you Eevee after the League.) So yeah,
it has a lot in common with G/S/C.
MANAPHY!: 1/5
I don't like
the way you have to do this; you have to do the Manaphy mission in Ranger,
trade the egg over to Pearl, and have it hatch into a level 1 Manaphy...
Whoopee. Now sure, it'll breed with Ditto to give you Fione, but Fione
won't evolve into Manaphy and it won't breed. Yeah, it may sound like I'm
putting it down, but I don't like how it's done. I don't even have a 2nd
DS or have beaten Ranger so I can't get it! I don't like this way of getting
a legendary.
FUN FACTOR! 4/5
It's Pokemon
fun! That's all I can say. It's pretty fun.
Recommendation:
5/5 (only if you like Pokemon)
If you like Pokemon,
then definitely get this game. If not, then why read this Review?! Poke
fans that don't have a DS should probably buy one to get it. It's a GREAT
Pokemon game. So I highly recommend this game.
So that's my Review on Pokemon Pearl. If you want, you can get Diamond if Pearl is sold out, there aren't many differences. This also could be a Diamond Review but I only own Pearl. And I wanted Pearl to begin with; after all I waited months for the release of it and my pre-order to come. So be sure to buy this, Pokemon Fans!
