Graphics: ***
These are not
great. They have good texture but they lack animation. Some Goombas look
like they are just floating around! So the graphics get a 3 star count.
Sound: ****
Great sound!
But all the grunting from Wario and the outside of the castle song hurts
this score because they are so annoying! Plus they needed more fast songs
instead of funeral songs! Like in a cave it has this weary, sad song so
it gets kinda sad. But at least they have some of the old Mario songs.
Difficulty: *****
It is hard! But
not too hard, just perfect! The old N64 game was way harder than this!
This had hard levels but they were a lot more confusing than hard. You
to randomly guess what to do, and that was awesome, but it hurts the score
about a Star. So you could say I'm wrong but try it out, and if you can
get all 150 Stars like me, I'm wrong and you win.
Controls: **
This was horrid
for me. They had tons of buttons you had to push to play! Like it has A
button for jump... You jump but you have to use the control pad to go into
this weird direction to land in a perfect spot! Nearly bad controls, so
it loses 3 stars for it... but it wins a star also, because you can pick
from 3 or 5 button arrangements!
Story: **
This is a big
factor in rating. I mean, come on, it has been the same story over and
over. Bowser, the king of Koopas, again tries and successfully captures
Peach, the princess! At least they added in Luigi, Yoshi, and Wario. They
make it like there is barely a story. The only reason Mario even figures
this out is because he wanted a cake Peach was making! So he, Wario, and
Luigi are captured and put in a room. Yoshi randomly walks over there and
tries to save them for no reason.
Levels: ****
The first few
levels were really fun and the last couple were fun. Some of the levels
were just weird and dumb, but this was, like, 2 levels. I really liked
the Bob-omb Battlefield, it may be the very best level. You need to beat
Big Bob-omb to win the level! It is really quite fun. In the desert level
you get to see some of the coolest places, like a pyramid! So the levels
were amazing. The score was only hurt by Bowser’s sub-levels and like 2
or 3 more. The one I suggest really trying is the lava place. I will not
spoil this for you but it is very fun!
Characters: *****
Almost every
character ever made in Mario was in this game, plus like 30 new ones. It
has great characters! Like the eye hands you fight in the desert, they
are really cool! And Bowser has great scales and looks really real. I also
love the Whomps in the game! They are awesome and strong-looking. King
Boo is an amazing example of what kind of characters you can pull off on
a DS! This is a huge factor!
Replayability:
***
It is fun to
play the levels over and over, but it gets boring over a long period. Once
you finish the game you just don't really want to play again. It is just
so pointless to play it over and over. I mean, after 150 Stars you've done
everything and beat everyone, so it just doesn't seem as fun.
Fun Factor!: ****
This game was
really fun, I loved it. I would suggest trying to beat this game at least
once just for the thrill of the levels! But the score is hurt by confusion
in this game. It really makes you mad! But it is pretty fun, at least for
me.
Recommendation:
Overall this
game is pretty good. A good 4 stars is about right. If you don't have a
DS but you do have an N64, buy the N64 version because it is not worth
an entire DS. But it is a game you need to buy if you own a DS.
