Ah, yes... As I´ve mentioned, "CTR" was the last Crash game to be produced and developed by Naughty Dog. One year after the development of "CTR", Eurocom made what every game based on Mario should have: a party game. It's even got a story!
STORY - 9
I don´t
know if you read the comic book series "Secret Wars", but Bash can be compared
to this. Aku Aku and Uka Uka are arguing to see what's better: good or
evil. Then, Uka Uka decides to invite each representative of good and evil
to fight amongst themselves. Aku Aku, obviously, chooses Crash and Coco,
and Uka Uka picks Dr. Cortex, Dr. Brio, Dingodile, Tiny Tiger, Koala Kongm
and Rilla Roo (a twisted mixture of a gorilla and a kangaroo). Due to the
unevenl division of players, Aku Aku picks up for himself Tiny and Dingodile,
and "let the games begin!"
GAMEPLAY - 8
Unlike the Mario
Party series, Crash Bash still has a "warp room" thingy. Each warp room
has 5 mini-games, one of which is a boss. Each mini-game is divided into
7 kinds. They are:
BALLISTIX: You
are in a hovercraft, with metallic balls popping up everywhere. You must
score a goal on all of your opponents to win.
CRATE CRUSH:
You are in a square arena, with common, TNT, and Nitro crates that pop
up each time you grab one. You must pick up those crates and throw them
at your opponents. You´ll win if you kill them all. Pick up some
Wumpa fruits to recover your health.
POLAR PUSH: You
are riding a polar bear cub. You must drop all the other players into the
water before the time runs out. Sometimes, a floating raygun will make
you get extremely small or insanely big. It will give you a 500 kg weight
that you must pass to another player before your time runs out and the
weight falls above you, or a ray that neutralizes your enemies, making
them easier to push. Watch out! The other players can steal them.
TANK WARS: You
are in a square arena, and all the players are in tanks. You must shoot
them all before time runs out or have the most health remaining to win.
POGO PANDEMONIUM:
You are in a square arena with a kind of jumping object (Crash and Coco
have pogo sticks; Cortex and Brio have jetpacks; Tiny and Kong have springs
on their feet; and Rilla Roo and Dingodile have jackhammers). You must
jump on each square to make them your respective color, and break the purple
"!" boxes to transform the number of squares you've colored into points.
Have the most points before time runs out to win.
CRASH DASH: You
are on a circular racing track. You must finish the most laps before time
runs out.
MEDIEVAL MAYHEM:
These can´t be explained because these mini-games aren´t fixed:
in each one you have to do different things.
Each mini-game can be completed to win trophies, gems, crystals, gold, and platinum.
GRAPHICS - 9
The quality of
the graphics felt very much like CTR. A good example of this is the characters:
they look like living toys and their facial expressions don´t change.
Most of the graphics (and other things) were taken from Crash Bandicoot
3: Warped. Nothing original!
MUSIC - 9.5 The music remains good, although it was not made by the band Mutato Muzika. (The composer this time was some random guy named Steve Duckworth.) We can say that the music isn´t original, either, because it´s mostly comprised of remixes and remakes of music from "Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped". But that doesn´t mean that it isn´t good. The one of the level "Space Bash" is marvelous! Well, at least for me.
FUN FACTOR! -
7.5
Sometimes, the
mini-games can be very hard! Only buy this game if you are a veteran at
hard party games!
FINAL NOTE - 8
Well, being Crash´s
first party game and the first game of his series that wasn´t made
by ND, it shouldn´t be that good, but it should have some improvements
in it. But let´s give a chance for the non-Naughty Dog Crash games,
they tried!
