Crash Boom Bang! Review

By Koopa know-it-all

DISTRIBUTED BY: Sierra Entertainment
DEVELOPED BY: Dimps
GENRE: Party
PLATFORM: Nintendo DS
YEAR OF RELEASE: 2006

Although Crash is based on Mario, "Crash Bash" and this are the only party games for our favorite orange marsupial. "Crash Boom Bang!" has a thing that nobody imagined: it was fully developed in Japan (WOW!). It is like "Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels" as you, Americans, Europeans (?), and Koopas call it. But "Boom Bang!" is one of the worst Crash games ever made. Check Point!

STORY - 7.5
The story is that classic cliché of "A competition that is not a competition". An extremely wealthy Tasmanian Devil named Viscount
passed years and years looking for a relic - the Super Big Power Crystal - to finish the steps of his grandfather. The special thing of this relic is that, if you touch it, it will make all your wishes come true. In an attempt to find this Super Big Power Crystal, Viscount has an idea: make the other people find it for him. Then, he creates a competition named "The Cannonball Race", and the winner takes $100,000,000.00 home. He sends the propaganda of the "competition" to the Wumpa Islands, and Crash and his gang go for it.

GAMEPLAY - 5
The gameplay is identic to the "Mario Party" series, having even that board thingy. We can say that the game is a mix of "Mario Party"
with "WarioWare", because the mini-games of it are, unlike in "Crash Bash", more varied, random, and simpler. Also, Wumpa fruits are point
accumulators in here - collect more to win. The instructions given of what to do in "Boom Bang!"are extremely simple and don´t explain very
much, so you must do it by yourself. Saving the game is also very hard: to do so, you must complete a board, which can be very
frustrating. However, you can play with most of the characters you know and love (or not): Crash Bandicoot, Coco Bandicoot, Crunch
Bandicoot, Fake Crash (for you to remember, he is a clone of Crash, but has big eyebrows, small pupils, and gigantic teeth), Dr. Neo
Cortex, Pinstripe Potoroo (the potoroo in a Mafia outfit), Pura (Coco´s pet, a tiger cub, that in this game became an anthropomorphized animal like everybody else), and Tawna (Crash's ex-girlfriend).

GRAPHICS - 6
Although the graphics were made by a technique named "cel-shading", the characters stayed a little ugly: as the game was developed in
Japan, they got the look they had, have, and always are going to have in Japan, with the exception of Crash; in the West, Crash´s model
was changed, and looks heavily like the model used in "Crash Twinsanity".

MUSIC - 3
Only one word can describe the music of "Boom Bang!": @#$%*%$$&*@!!! The music is quite mundane, and sounds like it popped out
of a broken Atari 2600. And I thought that Crash´s music should be good!

FUN FACTOR! - 3.5
As I said before, saving the game is hard, the mini-games can be very repetitive, and it's got @#$%*%$$&*@ music. Is that funny? Not for me.

FINAL NOTE - 4.5
I´ll finish with the words of every reviewer that had the bad luck of reviewing this game: only buy it if you are a die-hard Crash fan.
This game received abysmal rankings through all the world, its lowest note being a 2 from the site IGN. So, listen to me and the reviewers
of IGN and only buy it if you LOVE Crash to an extreme point.
