Graphics: 5
Okay. There's not much to it. The buildings
kind of look 3D, but the characters look rather odd. I know it's PAPER
Mario, but I mean some things look 3D while others look like paper, which
is what they're SUPPOSED to be. Nintendo could've done better.
Plot: 3
It's the same old plot you see in every
Mario game, only this time Peach's Castle is stolen along with Peach. What
else is there to say?
Characters: 6
There are a fair amount of characters.
You've got Mario, the hero; Peach, the helpless princess; Bowser, the big
villain who stole the Seven Star Spirits; and Kammy Koopa, Bowser's old
assistant. Then there's Mario's partners: Goombario, Kooper, Bombette,
Parakarry, Bow, Watt, Sushie, and Lakilester. Plus there's normal baddies
like Goomba and Koopa. The only characters that are new to the Mario series
in this game are the partners, Kammy Koopa, the bosses, and the Star Spirits.
Still good, though.
Battle System: 7
I love this battle system! It's so
easy, and you know the turn order (unlike in Super Mario RPG). You just
choose your command and press A. There's also the action command, which
you earn after leaving Shooting Star Summit for the first time, but the
Action Commands don't provide too much trouble. In battle you can jump,
hammer, use an item, switch your partner, use a Star Spirit's ability,
run away, or do nothing.
Difficulty: 2
Personally, this is the easiest non
spinoff game (Mario Kart, Mario Party, etc) I've ever played. I've only
beaten a few games, this included. In fact, I've beaten Bowser at least
5 times. Not the whole game, just Bowser, because I have two saved files
where I can fight Bowser right away. Anyway, this game is not hard for
me. The hardest boss (if I had to choose) would be Lava Piranha, and he
is a mid-game boss. This is just too easy.
Items: 7
Nice selection of items. Mushrooms
recover HP, Syrups recover FP, Life Shrooms revive Mario with 10 HP if
he dies. Plus, there's a plethora of attacking items, my personal favorite
attack item being Thunder Rage. You also deliver letters. Plus, you get
the Lucky Star, which enables action commands. There are tons of items
in the game.
Fun Factor!: 6
This game is so easy to me it takes
away one Fun Factor point. It's TOO easy. But I still love the game. It's
one of my favorites.
Overall: 6
Very good game. If you have a Wii,
you can get it on the Virtual Console. I suggest you get this game!
