Mario Party DS Review

By Your Twin the Fourth

Hi, this is Your Twin the Fourth, and I’m here writing my first Review for Lemmy. It’s about the second handheld Mario Party, Mario Party DS. I consider it a good game that makes use of the DS’s qualities and functions, and I hope you think the same. I’ll be rating on a 5/5 scale. For the overall, I’ll be rating by 10/10.

Gameplay: 4/5

This game makes excellent use of the DS’s functions, and has cool game modes and minigames. I scratched off a point because most things (and even a few minigames) can be done with the usual controls as well as with the stylus.

Difficulty: 5/5

The game’s difficulty is perfect. You can be good at some parts of the game, while at others you’ll be just plain bad. The scuffle for Stars can be easy or hard depending on your skills. The five bosses add action to each part of the Story Mode.

Bosses: 3/5

This is the first Mario Party that has multiple bosses, which adds a challenge to the usual Star scuffle. The bosses (Piranha Plant, Hammer Bro, Dry Bones, Kamek, and Bowser) can be fought in their own minigames after each board. The first Boss Minigame, however, can be a little hard for beginners.

Story: 3/5

The game’s story may not be too interesting, but it gives style to much of the game. After finding one of the five Sky Crystals, the Mario Gang recieve a party invitation from Bowser. The Koopa King shrinks them, takes the Sky Crystal, and flings them away. The heroes must find the other Crystals and face Bowser. Many minigames, and most of the boards, take advantage of the heroes’ size.

Replayability: 4/5

I don’t even have to mention this. Apart from a few new unlockables (including the all-famous usual Bowser board) there isn’t anything new after beating Story Mode, not even a hidden character.

Features: 2/5

Not anything new from any other Mario Parties. The boards (Wiggler’s Garden, Toadette’s Music Room, DK’s Stone Statue, Kamek’s Library and the Bowser board) have their own features and gizmos that you can put to use.

Fun Factor!: 4/5

Overall: 8/10

Nintendo really put effort inyo this, and I’ll have to congratulate them. Mario Party DS is an excellent DS game and I highly recommend it. With a few surprise appearances, this is a good addition to the Party series, and I hope Nintendo keeps doing better.
