Mario Party Advance Review

By ckday

I, for one, loved DS. So I am doing this. It is my favorite Advance game, but wasn’t perfect. Can it get near to what DS got, or will it crash and burn? This is my second Review. It is on a 1-10 scale.

Story: 7
FINALLY! One that isn’t 10 or higher. You come to visit Play Land, but Bowser comes and tosses ALL of your minigames and gadgets down to Shroom City. Now you must go down and recover them. You start out near a location nearby (mine was Boo Cemetery). After earning a gadget, you decide to do all sorts of zany quests to recover everything you lost and bring down Bowser… 9 times!

Gameplay: 3
Huh? 3? That’s right! You basically have to rely on replayability. Not much to do. I beat the game 100% TWICE! Not good.

Levels: 1
Literally. There is 1 level, Shroom City, and that’s it. This is one-player. AHHHHHHH!!!

Minigames: 6
Good. More than 5. Minigames include jumping across clouds to staying on a platform when logs come flying at you. COOL!

Mario-ness: 5
Only 4 playable characters. OH NO! *sigh * This stinks.

Controls: 8
Highest yet! Simple controls that I really can’t get into much detail about.

Shroom City: 10
FINALLY! A 10! This is pretty much the Story Mode. However, difficulty is MUCH lacking.

Play Land: 9
The minigame mode. You can play or trade minigames, play with or trade gadgets (mini minigames), or use minigame records to race with penguins! Wow, they put a lot of work into this.

Party Land: 8
THIS. IS. POINTLESS. I doubt you’ll know anyone who has this game, or have 100 friends. This is the multiplayer mode. THEY MADE A 100-PLAYER MODE!!! WHAT THE?

Challenge Mode: 9
Yeah… This is Advance’s special mode like Mario Party’s Minigame Island and DS’s puzzle mode. Collect coins and buy gadgets. When I say I beat the game 100% twice, I include this. The posters you can buy here change your main menu background.

Passports: 5
You create these at the game’s beginning. With a passport plus, you can have 30 instead of 10. You make one, and trade with friends for more. Delete your file here to play again.

Bonus Board: 10
If you buy this game in-pack, you will also get a bonus board. You can use the bonus board to play 4-player. So this is the 4-player mode. If you lose it or buy it secondhand, you won’t get this. But you can make your own! You play with gadgets on E. Gadd spaces, nothing happens on yellow spaces, etc. I bought mine secondhand.

Characters: 10
OH. MY. DAD. SO MANY CHARACTERS! Look at the box. Does it look like is has a lot of characters?

WOW! Woah.

Graphics: 7
Almost everything is 2D. Need I say more?

Music and Sound: 8
I loved the music, but there wasn’t much. That’s what I took 2 points off.

Difficulty: 2
NO DIFFICULTY! In fact, two of the 50 Shroom City missions just require you to say “yes” as a certain character! Cheap.

Replayabillity: 11
… Read my Mario Party DS Review for this.

Fun Factor!: 10
Look at the size of this game! This is amazing!

Overall: 9.5
You did it, Nintendo, you made your first portable Mario Party game! It’s amazing! Get this game if you do or don’t have DS; if you do because then you have Mario Party Mania in your DS, if you don’t then to see a simple PREVIEW of it. COOL!
