U.B. Funkeys Review

By Nintenbro0

It is me, Nintenbro0, and I'm reviewing the ever popular U.B. Funkeys. I want to mention that the game is not completely completed and it is unknown when they are going to finish it. They add little bits every 2 to 3 months or so. I rate on a 5 star scale including 0. 1=BAD.

System: PC
Genre: A little bit of everything
Players: 1

Story: Someone evil (I won't say who) has sent henchmen to attack and steal your Funkeys' coins. Now you must collect 4 gems and stop him. (The usual.)

Before I start with the actual Review I need you to know that you buy Funkeys along with a U.B. Then you place the Funkeys you own on the U.B. and a connector cord sends a 3D version of your Funkeys to the computer. Each Funkey has a separate game, so to get the full thrill you have to collect them all. Each pack of 2 Funkeys costs anywhere from 10 to 20  bucks. Now there are over 40 Funkeys! So it isn't really just a game... The Funkeys are kinda like a 3D version of Club Penguin.

Now in this game you collect coins to buy items for your crib (house). You play games and try to get high scores for rare free items. You travel through strange lands with your Funkeys. These strange places can range from a water world to a lava world. If you don't have a certain Funkey you can't visit a certain world.

Graphics: *****
The graphics were well-rounded, 3D, and flat-out amazing. I found them to be just perfect. Like when you play a minigame called Sunshine Link with a Funkey called Sol. It is a mini-golf game! When you putt, the ball rolls smoothly across, then slows or bounces off something. Or when you play Flurry's game, it is called Hectic Half-Pipe! You do a snowboarding version of skateboarding on a half-pipe. The graphics were perfect.

Sound: **
I honestly can't remember any good tunes, there weren't many voices so no good voices, and I can't remember any good sound effects! The sound needed something more. I only gave it 2 stars because I liked the tunes in Scratch's game. Well, it was DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). I also liked the voices that you did hear...

Diffuculty:
Yes, 0 stars! I want to say if you love impossible games, this is for you (or at least near impossible). This was the hardest game I have ever played. It was dramatically hard. No, it wasn't earning a billion coins that was hard, it wasn't moving your items through your house that was hard, it was the games of the Funkeys. They were more than hard. I honestly don't know how a kid or an adult is expected to do this. Let me explain. Imagine having to play a round of mini-golf with a bet. The bet is you have to get through all holes only using 35 putts. But there are 18 holes. That means that you need to get a 2 on every hole. Okay, now imagine doing it with a mouse (computer mouse, I mean). Plus they let you get sooooooooooooooooo close. Then suddenly you click the mouse, and the ball blasts off and bounces literally back to where it started. That is what it feels like when you play this game. They expect kids to do this and have fun. I think that the disappointment of losing a game when you were that close was too painful to stand.

Replayability: ***
An average score because I would only play it again if I had new Funkeys. Not much else to write here.

Characters: ***
I didn't know what to do for this score. I mean, they have tons and tons of characters for you to buy, more than 40. But that is good until you see the bill. It would cost loads of cash to buy these things! I don't know how anyone could collect them all without passing out. Despite the money involved, the characters were very fun and cool guys! Like Lotus, Deuce, Flurry, Sol, Twinx, Scratch, Bones, and tons more, and I mean literally tons more!

Controls: ****
The controls were easy to use and deal with. Simple as that. My only complaint is that  some mini-games use a few too many controls.

Levels: **
There are 6 levels so far: the water place, Magma Gorge, Funkiki Island, Funkeystown, Laputta Sation, and another name I can't remember based on a racetrack. Now besides there being barely any levels, the level were large, extremely well-designed, and more. Read the Graphics section and you'll know what I mean.

Items: ***
There aren't items that level up your Funkey or anything, but there are items you can place in your house like pets and things. There are over 1,000 items, but only about 250 are actual items that aren't just the same item with a different color. Overall I liked adding things to my house (like a shark).

Gameplay: ***
This game has a lot of things you may do while playing it. You mainly play games to try to win trophies though.

Fun Factor!: ****
Well if you can get over the impossibility of it you will probably enjoy this game. I did. At least I did until I found out how hard it really was.

Recommendation:
Well I would definitely recommend Funkeys. I found them fun and worth it. I do, however, believe that it is definitely not going to be as fun for a 6-year-old as a 13-year-old. I would go with 6 Funkeys to start your set, then you can buy more from there. I recommend Sol, Scratch, Flurry, Deuce, Twinx, and Boggle. I don't recommend, Lotus, Bones, and others that I forget the names of. If I remember, to enter a certain place you need 1 of the 4 Funkeys allowed to go there. I did not name any Funkeys that go to Laputta Station and the racetrack (they haven't started selling the racetrack ones yet.) To play a certain Funkey's game you need that certain Funkey.
