Nicktoons: Attack of The Toybots Review

By Luigi_Ownz

Licensed games: nightmares to many, misunderstood bland games to few. Today I review Nicktoons: Attack of The Toybots, a game for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Gameboy Advance, X-Box 360, and Playstation 3.

Story: 4/10
Professor Calamitous from Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius has discovered a great way to takeover the world. When Fairies from Fairy World eat too much Krabby Patties, they make a strange mixture of gases, the exact kind of gas he needs to fuel his Robotic Duplicates of Nicktoons Heroes. I stop right there because already it sounds childish and ridiculous.

Characters: 10/10
Spongebob, Tak, Timmy Turner, Jimmy Neutron. BAH! The only reason I gave this section a 10 is because secret characters include GIR from Invader Zim, Stimpy from Ren and Stimpy, and most importantly, Rocko from Rocko’s Modern Life. The Chadbot (Professor Calamitous’s rebellious, underappreciated robot lackey) can be funny at times, and characters like Dagget (Angry Beavers) and Krumm (Aaahh!!! Real Monsters) make cameo appearances.

Controls: 7/10
Controls are easy to understand. Unfortunately, they’re a bit TOO easy. B is duck/grab onto something, A is squirting goo from your goo cannons, control stick is move, and BLAH BLAH BLAH!

Voice Acting: 10/10
Billy West?! BILLY WEST?! THE, I REPEAT, THE VOICE OF REN HOEK, STIMPSON J. CAT, AND DR. ZOIDBERG FROM FUTURAMA?! Yes! YES!

That aside, it’s nice to see the original voice actors come back and say new quotes for the games, rather than recycling quotes from TV episodes. GIR cracks me up in the game. He says his classics (Now Digitally Remastered!) like, “YAY! WE’RE DOOOOMED!” Or “Why is my head SOOOOOOO BIG?!” As well as quotes made just for the game, like, “The Professor has a little head… LEE-TULE HEAAAAD!” and “I should record these events for my master… He likes funny things!” and my personal favorite, “TIME TO EXPLODE… Maybe later.”

Music: 8/10
The music in this game is pretty good. The standard level theme is catchy, the racecar stage has a nice beat, and Fairy World has a nice tune.

Levels: 3/10
Let’s see… 5 levels (some with 2 sub-levels in each) and 2 robot mini-levels. Sorry, THQ. You just leave me unimpressed.

Overall: 6/10
This game is ok. Though the levels and lame plotline get on your nerves, the characters and character vocals make up for it. I say you should rent it first, then if you like it, be my guest. Oh! But for those of you want Stimpy, GIR, and Rocko, you MUST buy a console-version of the game. Handhelds DO NOT have them, but instead have *shudder* El Tigre.
