After Mario, Pac-Man is one of the most famous and referenced videogame characters worldwide. Twenty years after Pac-Man’s creation, Namco decided to give our round friend one great birthday present! Check it:

STORY – 8.5
Like in real life, it's Pac-Man's twentieth birthday. However, Pac-Man's family was kidnapped by a robotic clone of Pac-Man named Toc-Man, who wants to take the place of Pac-Man. Pac discovers that Toc and all of those ghosts live on a gloomy island named Ghost Island, and then he goes there do discover who is behind of everything.

GAMEPLAY – 9.5
The gameplay focuses on Pac-Man traveling to Ghost Island and saving his family from Toc-Man's clutches. Ghost Island is divided into six worlds: Pirate, Ruins, Space, Funhouse, Factory, and finally, Toc-Man's Mansion. Through the levels you will find many items, for example, the fruits. You can use these fruits to open the Fruit Doors, whose function is quite obvious here. You must use the fruit that the door shows to open it. A door can contain one item or a switch.

The famous balls (the Pac-Dots) that Pac-Man needed to eat to clean a phase are also present, but this time, if you press the Circle button, Pac-Man can throw them! If you hold the button, it's gonna be a super-atomic bomb! WOW! Also, Pac-Man got new moves, for example, the Rev Roll: hold the Square button and he'll run super fast. Pac-Man also now jumps, and pressing the X button twice will make him do a butt bounce. This butt bounce is useful for pressing switches scattered through the levels.

To save Pac's family, keys for the cages where they're locked can be find in the penultimate level of the world. They're the hardest item to collect, so keep an eye out! There are also the maze Fruit Doors, opened if Pac finds a candy umbrella. If Pac complete this maze, it will be available in the "Maze" mode. When all the mazes are unlocked, press the Circle button in Maze Mode to play the Marathon; in here, Pac must clear all the mazes consecutively to unlock the gallery of images.

As a final note, the game has three modes:

QUEST: The main mode
MAZE: A recreation of the classic game, the player must clear a maze as in the game
CLASSIC: Self-explanatory name, it's the original 1980s "Pac-Man"

GRAPHICS - 10!
The graphics are very colorful, detailed, and lively. They're almost a cartoon.

MUSIC - 10!
The music is also quite nice! The ones from the pirate levels are very cool, and my personal favorite is the one from the level "Down the Tubes".

FUN FACTOR! - 8
The game is quite funny, mostly because of that weird scream that Pac does when he dies. But it's a little hard and frustrating in some parts, for example, the maze part.

FINAL NOTE - 9
Well, it's quite a nice gift to our birthday pal. Two other sequels came up a little later, and this game was brought to the GBA (I think in 2004). Well, nothing more to say... The world is quiet here.
