Super Smash Bros. Brawl Review

By Chase

I'll just be very original and rate on a scale of 1-10.

Plot: 10
The plot in the Subspace Emissary (more on it later) is amazing. It is so mixed up that it's like a soap opera! Anyway, let's just say it starts small with Mario, Kirby, Zelda, and Peach, then grows huge!

Graphics: 9
The graphics are amazing as well. It almost feels as if you're with the characters in the cutscenes of the Subspace Emissary. Even in Brawls, the graphics are great, certainly better than Melee.

Controls: 8
The controls are the same for every character, they just have different moves. However, in the heat of a major battle, it can be easy to forget crucial controls, thus hindering your chances of doing well in the battle. But don't get me wrong; they're still great.

Characters: 10
Perfect score here. The playable characters are great, though some are clones of others. Still, my favorite character appeared as the first boss in Subspace Emissary, and it has a diverse selection of characters from different Nintendo series, such as Star Fox, Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Zelda, Pokemon, and even Metroid.

Attacks/Moves: 10
All right, I'm trying not to overrate here, but this is truly is great. Each character's moves are jaw-dropping. For example, each character has a Final Smash. Final Smashes deal major damage, I mean major. Mario's Final Smash is a big line of fire, I guess you could put it. If you're caught in the line of fire... good luck to you. Anyway, the moves can be amazingly powerful, or just a complete dud.

Items: 9
Brawl features a variety of items from different Nintendo series. My personal favorite item is the Assist Trophy, which causes a minor character from a Nintendo game to come onscreen and damage your enemies. There are TONS of items: healing items, attack items, defense items, screen-blocking items, and more. I think this has more items than the other two Super Smash Bros. games.

Stages: 9
The stages are, of course, amazing. They're extremely creative, such as the Mario Circuit stage, where you must avoid Shy Guys that are driving around but fight at the same time. And there is New Pork City, with flashing lights that prevent you from seeing anything. You can also create your own stages with features you unlock throughout the game. A few Melee stages also return.

Game Modes: 10
There are so many game modes in this game, and they're all so great! I like the Masterpieces section, where you can play older games such as The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, and F-Zero for a limited time. There is Challenge mode, which gives you hints on how to unlock features (except characters). You have Trophy and Sticker mode, Wi-Fi, and just so much that I can't remember them all!

Subspace Emissary: 7
This was one part of the game that actually somewhat disappointed me. You go around specially-made courses, fight annoying enemies, and gain trophies and stickers. There isn't much to it, but the plot and bosses make up for it. Like I said, the plot is twisting and confusing! The bosses are just amazingly fun to fight. Like, the first boss, Petey Piranha. Peach and Zelda are trapped in cages that Petey uses to attack you. You must break open one of the cages, freeing the princess inside it. The OTHER princess, however...

Replayability: 10
It's a fighting game that differs each time you fight. It never gets old.

Fun Factor!: 9
Very fun game. Whether fighting with your friends or the computer, it's still very fun!

Overall: 9
BUY THIS GAME! It is amazing. I am 99.9% positive you'll be impressed.
