Graphics: 9.5
This game received many remarks about
being cel-shaded, but to me this game’s graphics are still awesome. I personally
think that these graphics are even better than those of Super Mario Sunshine’s,
actually. But, some people don’t like cel-shade graphics, in which case
this category gets a 2.
Music: 10
Wow… This game has some of the best
music ever in a videogame, including the Great Sea, Dragon Roost Island,
Windfall Island, and the music from the first battle against a Darknut.
This game’s music is well-fit to every occasion, and even likeable in the
wrong occasion, such as The Great Sea playing in a high-pitched Brawl…
Yeah. Awesome music.
Story: 9.5
You play as a young boy named (insert
whatever you want here; I named myself Ganon once) who lives on an island
in the southwest corner of the Great Sea, Outset Island. You’ve just turned
10 or 12 or I-Don’t-Really-Know, which means that you’re the same age as
the Hero of Time, granting you the honor of wearing the green clothes worn
by every Link yet. Although you don’t seem happy about this, there’s no
time to complain, as some girl gets kidnapped and thrown in the woods on
the summit of the island! After slashing your first two Bokoblins, you
learn that the girl is a pirate named Tetra. As you, Tetra, and two other
pirates leave, the bird that kidnapped Tetra earlier goes and kidnaps your
sister, Aryll! You then, with the aid of the pirates, head out to rescue
her.
Yeah, I know, sounds bad, but I was never good at reciting stories, and that’s just the beginning. The plot gets MUCH, MUCH thicker.
Characters: 10
All of the characters are charming,
and Link is the best Link yet. Every other one is all super-serious, but
this one actually has personality and is actually believable, unlike Ocarina
of Time‘s Link, who could be a robot if it wasn’t for the fact that he
ages seven years.
Items: 10
Ok, I know that I’m giving this game
a whole bunch of perfect scores, but it’s that good. Seriously. The items
include everyone’s favorites: bombs, the bow and arrow, and the boomerang;
but it has a bunch of new, creative items to. like the Deku Leaf and Grappling
Hook. So creative…Miyamoto must have had a field day thinking of those
and their uses.
Controls: 10
ABSOLUTELY PERFECT CONTROLS.
The Z, X, and Y buttons will always be better than anything that has to
do with C, and you can’t change my mind. Anyway, this game has just… awesome
controls.
Gameplay: 10
It’s a 3D Zelda. So naturally that
means 9 or better. But Wind Waker perfects upon the previous game so much…
The overworld is massive, much bigger than the previous ones AND its successor,
Twilight Princess. And how do you get across it? Instead of a horse, you
get the King of Red Lions, a sailboat, which naturally means that this
game’s overworld is the sea. And exploring it… I don’t know whether it’s
the music, the better-than usual camera, or something else, but the sailing
is… an UNDERstatement would be to say it’s totally awesome.
Difficulty
How much it is present: 8-5
How much I like it: 10
This game has perfect difficulty, not
too easy, but not too hard. The only problem is the first dungeon, the
Forsaken Fortress. See, Nintendo tried to make something that should never
be in a Zelda game: stealth gameplay. UGGH, I hate that dungeon. But every
single one of the other 7 dungeon runs are awesome! The puzzles are puzzling,
but you can solve them. In fact, if you buy the Prima guide, you’ll probably
use the mini-walkthrough of Ocarina of Time more than the guide for this
game itself!
Length: 10
This game is pretty darn long, I must
say. Unless you get obsessive over the game (which you’ll probably often
do) you’re not going to beat a dungeon in one playthrough. But it’s good
if you do for you’ll get A LOT of fun.
Replayibility: 10
Here’s just some of what you can do
after you beat the game:
-2nd Play-through: After you deal the
finishing blow to Ganon, you can just play through the game and it’s wonders
all over again! As a special bonus, the game will give you a slightly different
experience. For example, you get to play as Pajama Link! And you get the
Deluxe Picto Box at the beginning of the game, which helps you with…
-Nintendo Gallery: …the Nintendo Gallery!
Ok, so somewhere in the Forest Haven, there is a secret switch that will
let you come here, where a guy named Carlov who makes figurines wants your
help. See, he wants to have figurines of every person on the Great Sea!
So he has you explore the Great Sea, taking pictures of every enemy and
person with your Deluxe Picto Box. A fun sidequest.
-Buried Treasure: Throughout the game
you’ll get your hands upon Treasure charts. So you’ll go to where the treasure
is marked on your Sea Chart (if you have the island on it) and use your
grappling hook to haul it up! Most of the time it’s something awesome,
like a Silver Rupee or a Piece of Heart, but one time you’ll waste all
your money at an auction on a Treasure Chart that leads too… one rupee.
Umm…
-Tingle Statues: The old crazy guy
from Majora’s Mask for some reason has five golden statues of himself,
one in each main dungeon. If you collect all five with the Tingle Tuner…
something will happen! I don’t know what it is, as I haven’t ever got them
all… : (
Yeah. Awesome replayibility.
Fun Factor!: 10
You saw this one coming, didn’t you?
This game is fun in so many ways that I can’t even hope to put them all
in this section. So that’s all I’m gonna put.
Overall: 10
Again, you probably saw this one coming.
This is my favorite game of all time, and it’s gonna take a lot more than
innovative controls to silence it. If you own a Wii or GameCube, immediately
go over to your local Gamestop or whatever and BUY IT. Trust me, you won’t
regret it.
