Transformers: Auto-Bots Review

By Cubone

Ummm... Hi... I'm Cubone. I'm here to review Transformers: Auto-Bots. It's a game for the Nintendo DS. There's a Decepticon version for the DS as well, but I'm not reviewing that game... not today anyways.

I'm gonna use a 1 to 10 rating system, ok?

Story: 9

The story is really good. You see, you get to create an Auto-Bot (that's your own), and he comes to Earth as a rookie to take part in the war between Auto-Bots (Good) and Decepticons along with all the other Auto-Bots. It doesn't sound like the best plot, but there are some pretty good plot twists that make the story pretty interesting.

Gameplay: 8

The gameplay is pretty basic. You go on missions when you aren't in the city chillin', and can fight bosses during certain missions. You can also level up. Leveling up lets you unlock all sorts of new abilities, like being able to climb buildings, shoot missiles in car mode, and even ground pound.(What action/fighting game doesn't have a ground pound these days?)

Unfortunately, some of those missions can be incredibly hard. Some people would find some missions are too easy, but I for one like things easy.

Controls: 9

The controls are great as well. X is to climb, grab, and throw things. Y is to shoot things with your machine gun or rocket launcher. Start is to pause. (Don't tell me you didn't know that.) The control pad is used to move or drive.

The touch screen is awesome too! You can touch a certain part of the screen to have your bot transform into a vehicle. And, you can look at a map of the area you're in. That IS pretty handy.

But, I had to take a point off. B is jump and A is punch/kick. I don't like that. I think A should always be jump. I've always got confused about that, since I play Mario games a lot. The jump button is always A in those games!

Characters: 10

These aren't a whole lot of characters, but they all have pretty great personalities.

Create-A-Bot: This guy is pretty cool. You name this guy before you start playing, and he's the bot you control for most of the game. You can scan other vehicles that you can transform into with him. And you can change his color.

Bumble Bee: The team spy, who almost immediately becomes Create-A-Bot's best bud.

Ironhide: An old war veteran who speaks with a Country accent. He trains Create-A-Bot for the first bit of the game.

Ratchet: The team's medic who, sadly, you only get to play as once in the entire game. He seems to be pretty smart, and is quite kind.

Jazz: The team's second in command. He is very calm in every situation in the game. Even when he is squaring off against the largest Decepticon of them all, Jazz says "Sorry, but you're just too big and stupid to scare me."

Optimus Prime: The team's bold leader who leads the team into combat against the Decepticons.

There are also the Decepticons, but I'll go over them when (or if) I review Transformers: Decepticons.

There are also drones that run around the city. Drones are just pathetic excuses for the real Decepticons.

Music: 7

The music is pretty good, like when you're fighting a boss or being chased by the cops, but there is also some very dull music in this game. Just dull. I can't really describe it.

Sound: 10

The sounds are great! Whether you’re driving around as a vehicle, firing missiles at enemies, or punching a Decepticon in the face, they sound great! And transforming… that sounds awesome!

Some people would say the game's sounds are ok, but I think they're great!

Graphics: 8

What can I say? This game is awesome. EVERYTHING about it is awesome! Including graphics! The Robots look real, the cars are detailed, and the trees look normal! In some games, trees are just sticks with puff balls on top. I sort of think the bots could have been a little more detailed, but this has very good graphics overall.

Fun Factor!: 10!!!

How could this game not get a ten on Fun Factor?! You go on missions, fight other bots, and can just drive around as a car through the city.

Overall: 9

This is an awesome game! It's one of my favorite Nintendo DS games! I recommend this game to everyone! If you haven't played it... YOU'D BETTER!!! ... Sorry about that... But really, this is an awesome game. I love it.
