Name: New Super
Mario Bros.
Rating: E
Game Price: About
$30.00
Story: 6.5
As usual Princess
Peach has been captured and Mario must go and save her and the Mushroom
Kingdom. It is basically the same story every time the game is called Super
Mario Bros, except this time Bowser Junior kidnapped her.
Gameplay: 8
Two of the worlds
are hidden and can only be accessed by being shot out of a warp cannon
or finding the secret in a boss battle (beating them with a Mini Mushroom).
You can only play as Mario so I took off a point for that too.
Controls: 9
These were a
little hard to get the hang of at first, but you could change the controls
around in the options menu.
Graphics: 10!
Every character
is 3D in a 2D land with nice scenery. The graphics were great; when you
go through shallow water you can make a little wave, which is what I noticed
the most.
Moves: 8.5
Most of the moves
were copied from Super Mario 64, including the backflip and wall jump.
I had to give it an 8.5 because the way they did it was realistic.
Music: 4
I think the music
stunk. For almost every outside level they used this annoying little tune
that the Goombas jumped to. They copied the underground music from previous
games, but I did like the castle and fortress music.
Items: 9.5
There weren’t
that many items, but they were still good. The new items were Mega Mushroom,
Blue Shell, and the Mini Mushroom.
Enemies: 7
Most of them
were copied from other games, like Spike Top and the infamous Lakitu. They
did have some new foes, like Broozer, Cheep Chomp, Squiggler, and some
others.
Bosses: 6
The bosses were
VERY easy. Most of them only required you to jump on them 3 times.
They were pretty creative with them, though. Bowser is the first boss in
the game, which caught me off-guard. Overall the bosses just weren’t that
hard.
Toad Houses: 9
Ok, this doesn’t
need to be rated, but I am anyways. They have red houses that have a random
item there. Green houses offer a chance to get extra lives. An orange house
always has a Mega Mushroom, but nothing else. There is a secret Toad House
once you beat the game, but that’s IF you beat the game.
Replayability:
8
You can replay
the levels anytime you want, only you can’t get the Star Coins (valuable
coins of which there are only three in each level) again once you have
collected them already.
Addictive Level:
9
This game is
VERY addictive. You can’t save the game unless you beat a fortress or castle
or you spend five of your Star Coins. What is the deal with that?! They
are forcing you to keep playing or lose your data. I think they could have
made it easier to save the game than this.
Level of Difficulty:
7.5
They had some
tricky spots in there, but I finished the game in a little less than a
week! That’s only because I wasn’t allowed to play it longer during those
days. The last few castles were the only things I found difficult.
Minigames: 8.5
Most of them
were copied from Super Mario 64 DS, but they were still fun.
Fun Factor!: 8
It is a good
game for you to play if you are a Mario fan, but other than that… I just
think you should borrow it from a friend for a while. Still, it’s a good
game for Mario fans to play.
