Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga Review

By Fireball

Hey, I’m going to do the first game of Mario and Luigi. I’m going to review its greatness and where it needs work. I will rate it on a scale of * to *****, one being awful and five being awesome.

Story: *****
They don't make stories like these anymore. People from Beanbean Kingdom come to give Peach a gift, but it's Fawful and Cackletta! They need the princess’ voice for their own needs, and replace Peach's voice with explosives. They then try to awake the Beanstar using Peach's voice, because it can only be awaken by a pure heart and a sweet voice. Cackletta does not have that voice at all. Then there's a great twist, and I would have never thought about, but Cackletta ends up taking another person’s body. It is a great story indeed. Well done, Nintendo!

Controls: *****
The controls are very easy to learn, and the A button is for Mario and the B is for Luigi. I like how they did that. You use L and R to switch what weapon you’re using, like if Mario has the hammer out, just press the button and he can jump instead. I love the controls!

Graphics: ***
The graphics are not that bad. They could use some work, but overall, they were all right. I liked how the main characters looked, like Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Fawful, but some of the bosses could have had some more detail. Even at the ship on land, the skeleton characters could have had some work done. But like I said, it's all right.

Music: ****
I liked the music in this game, but some of the music I thought could have been better, like underwater, I didn't like the music there. I know it should have that underwater theme, but I just had to turn the sound off when I was down there. The boss music was good and the field music was amazing! That was the best music in the whole game. Bowser's ship had good music in it. Oho Oasis was great music, another best in the game. Teehee Valley had the right tone and Chucklehuck Woods had great music, just right for that place. But I really enjoyed the battle music, it never got old for me. Even if I did battle a lot in the game, it never got old!

Characters: *****
Man, these characters were GREAT! I’ve never seen so many new characters in one game. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and Birdo were seen already, but they also had the Beanbean Kingdom characters in there! And there are brand new main bosses like Popple, Fawful, Cackletta, and more. Then you have Lady Lima, Prince Peasley, and the Queen. Nintendo, great job on the characters, guys!

Difficulty: ***
It was not that hard for me. I thought it was really easy, but that's because I train my stats nonstop, and you guys might be different. The only thing I found hard was the final boss, which was really fun! Some of the bosses were kind of hard, like near the end of the game. The puzzles could have been found to be hard, but they’re not that hard really, which is kinda why I gave this three stars.

Places: *****
Yet again, another high rating. With every new game, there are new places. But this game has so many new places, it just takes your breath away. When you look at the map, it looks like there's not that many areas, but there are. Sometimes you have to return to a spot because there's another part to it that you weren't able to go through yet. Overall, the way the places are set and the way they look, Nintendo did an amazing job!

Length: ****
It's not too long and it's not to short, but I think it's on the longer side. Oho Oasis was a really short spot and Teehee Valley seemed short as well. They could have been a bit longer. Sometimes it seems like it's really long, you never know when you’re going to be done at one spot and move to the next. When facing Cackletta the first time, I thought it was the final boss already, but it's not. (It would have been a ripoff if it was. )But the game is pretty long.

Fun Factor!: *****
You will never want to stop playing this game, it's that fun! I played it about seven times already, I find the game that fun! They never make games like this anymore! Even if some things get on your nerves, it was still fun. The battles were well done, the puzzles were great. You can't say a bad thing about the fun in this game, really. It also had great humor in the game!

Overall: *****
This is a great game that you will enjoy. You should not rent it, you should just buy it! This is the funniest Mario game I ever played in my life, really. The humor was great, battles were done well, puzzles are good, there's nothing bad about this game! Once you start playing, you won't stop until you wrap up the game. Well done, Nintendo, on making this game! Now only if they could make another Mario game like this...
