System: Wii
Rated: E “For
Everyone”
No. of Players:
2 simultaneously
Story: N/A
There is no story,
just single player tournaments.
Graphics: ***
The graphics
are great, and the vehicles are even better. You can use famous characters
like, Speed, X, Trixie, and more, and some that are not so famous, like
Snake Oiler, Rosey Blaze, Gearbox, and more... As I was saying, the tracks
are highly detailed, and the cars are too. That's pretty much all I can
rate.
Music and Sound:
***
The music isn't
all that good, but the SFX and voice acting are. The actors from the movie
come back to make the voices for the characters, like Emile Hirsch for
Speed. As I said the music isn't all that great because it lacks lots of
REAL Speed Racer music.
Courses: ****
This would be
called "Levels" but it's a racing game, isn't it? As I said, the graphics
aren't everything, but there are tons of tracks you can race on, I think
there's like 6-12, I'm not sure. Each track has lots of features like quarter
clockwise, half counterclockwise, etc, that affect how long and which way
you race the tracks. Lots of tracks from the movie are in the game, like
Thunderhead and Fuji Helexicon. If you beat every tournament, you'll unlock
the infamous Mirror Mode.
Gameplay: ****
This game is
Wii Wheel compatible, so of course I use mine. Anyway, the gameplay is
probably the best. You can move the Wii Wheel to the left or right to hit
somebody, jump, and tons of other stuff. Buttons are rarely used.
Controls: ****
The controls
are easy to learn, and involve little button pressing.
2 - Accelerate
1 - Break/Reverse
Jolt Control
Up - Jump
B - Turbo
Jolt Control
Left - Shunt Left
Jolt Control
Right - Shunt Right
Move Control
Up and Down - Steer
There are also more commands, but theu’re more complicated. I'll give 3 examples:
1. Sliding: Accelerate
until you’re going very fast, then let go of 2, then turn the car to the
left and right, and press 2 again. (This must be done quickly.)
2. Tailspin:
Backflip when your hood is under the opponent’s trunk.
3. Torpedo: Use
a boost while doing a right or left barrel roll, and you'll lock on to
an enemy like a torpedo.
Characters: ****
The characters
seem infinite. There are a lot of them, including:
Speed Racer
Trixie
Racer X
Jack "Cannonball"
Taylor
Snake Oiler
Rosey Blaze
And that's just to name a few...
Items: N/A
There aren't
any items, except for obstacles and Boost Pads.
Difficulty: *
The first few
tournaments are quite easy, but as you advance they get ridiculously hard.
I quit playing when I beat Mirror Mode.
Replayibility:
****
The difficulty
is horrible, but there are cheats for this game that make it worthwhile.
And seeing that I'm such a good gu- *Boo noise is heard in the background*
AND seeing that I'm such a good guy, I'm going to give you 2 right here!
Monster Truck:
B, Up, Minus, 2, B, Up, Minus
Mega Damage:
A, Minus, Plus, Down, Up, Plus, 1
Fun Factor: ***
This game is
fun for some, and boring for others, since there's not really much to this
game: no items, no customization, no Miis. But for Speed Racer fans (like
me) they might like it. But of course, it's not as good as Mario!
Overall: **
This game should
only be for fans of Speed Racer, though there may be some rare cases of
non-fans of Speed Racer who like this game, like my friend Ziamond Paratroopa.
He liked the game, and I let him borrow it. If you’re thinking of buying
it, I highly recommend you think it through thoroughly. Think of the games
you don't have. You'd be better off buying:
Super Mario Galaxy
WarioWare
Sonic Unleashed
Super Smash Bros:
Brawl
Or some other game.
Well, this is the end of another game Review. This brings my count up to 4! Great! Well, bye bye!
