Story: ****
Well, Nintendo tried something different.
And that’s good, this story was good. Little Star Bits were flying from
the sky and a festival was going around the town. Mario was invited to
the princess' house, like always, and made his way down from the town to
the castle. When I first saw the town and Toads, this game looked very
interesting. But moving on now… Peach gets stolen by Bowser and his minions.
They hook some chains on to Peach's castle and take off to space, and blow
a shot at Mario, sending him into space. Mario meets Rosalina and her Lumas,
the cute little things. Mario must go to planets and get all the Stars
as well as save the princess. Though when you really think about it, it’s
close to Paper Mario, when Bowser takes Peach's castle and goes up to space
with the castle... yeah.
Graphics: ****
The graphics were great. The first time
I was playing, I couldn't believe it, it was great. Mario looked lifelike,
and the game made me feel that "wow" factor. I would give it a perfect
score, but after playing it again, it’s not like "wow" anymore. Other characters
such as the Toads look cool, and Bowser and Bowser Jr. look good as well.
Not much to say.
Controls: ****
Giving the game an awful lot of four
star rating, hmm? Well, the controls weren't that hard to learn, really.
You may have some troubles at the start though, but you’ll catch on. Sometimes
in the middle of the game you may even have a little trouble, I know I
did. But the controls were placed well on the controller and done well.
But not great.
Characters: ***
There were some old characters and some
new characters, such as Mario, Peach, Bowser, Bowser Jr, Luigi, Rosalina,
Lumas and more. But when talking about the enemies, there weren't that
many. I felt like I was running into the same characters a lot in the game,
and the majority of the enemies are ones that appear only in this game.
I do believe some Goombas were in the game and some Koopa Troopas, but
they didn't really play a major role in the game. The bosses were new,
but when it all comes down to the middle... well, it gets a middle scoring.
If some more enemies were added and some more new characters with big parts
were added, maybe the scoring would go up some more.
Galaxies/Planets: *****
They were great, something new and enjoyable.
I loved all of the galaxies, my favorite would have to be the Toy Galaxy.
Anyway, there were unique places such as the Freezeflame Galaxy, a galaxy
with levels of ice and fire, and Honeyhive Galaxy, a galaxy with honey,
hives, and bumble bees! There’s even the Ghostly Galaxy, which is... a
Boo mansion, pretty much, and you get to race one. The galaxies were all
great! No bad things to say about the galaxies!
Difficulty: ***
It was kinda hard and kinda easy at
the same time. In some galaxies it was really a breeze, but some would
trouble some people. I didn't find most to be hard, but there were a couple
of spots in the game that got me. Sometimes there are comets that have
different effects on the worlds, known as Prankster Comets. There’s the
Purple Comet, where you must get 100 purple coins, the Speedy Comet, where
you must complete the level in a certain time limit, the Daredevil Comet,
where you have only 1 health and must beat the boss, and a couple of others.
These could give you troubles in the game. So it’s normal difficulty really.
Items: **1/2
Items were ok... but not terrific. Bee
Mario and Boo Mario were new, but you really don't use the items much,
not any of them really. The items were good but should have had more effort
put into them. Maybe even a few more would do.
Fun Factor!: ****
The game was really fun, and I enjoyed
most places. I liked places where you had to have a swimming race, most
Galaxies were fun, and it was really fun. Some spots were not super
fun or fun at all, but overall it was very enjoyable.
Replay Value: ****
Hey, I replayed the game. After getting
100% in the game, you can play again (I won't spoil it for others if you
haven’t played the game), and if you get 100% with that, there is a special
surprise awaiting, but really... it isn't that special or big of a surprise.
But the game is replayable and fun to play again.
Overall Score: 33.5 / 45
Hmm. Maybe if the items were better, the game would have a higher score? But anyway, I would recommend that you buy this game, or even rent the game. It’s very fun to play and enjoyable.
