Cabela’s Outdoor Adventures Review

By Mariorulez14

Hi! This is my first Review, and I’ll rate every category on a 0-10 scale.

System(s): GameCube, PS2
Publisher: Activision (with help from Cabela’s)
ESRB Rating: T (Blood, Violence)
Players: 1

Story: 7/10

You are a rookie big game hunter, out with your outdoor guide. You start in Washington County, Pennsylvania and you end in the Southern Alps, New Zealand. You’re out looking for deer- big ones at that. You have a large number of weapons and gadgets to help you along, from 12-Gauge Automatic Shotguns to fishing poles to animal lures and calls. On occasion, your outdoor guide or the game warden will ask you to do challenges or favors for them. In the end, after all locations are clear, the real point behind the adventure is revealed…

Graphics/Sound: 10/10!

The graphics and sound are amazing! Each environment is masterfully put together with unique sounds for each season. Realistic deer and animal sounds abound throughout this game, and your hunting tools look (and sound) like the real deal. The vehicles look and sound so realistic it’s almost like you’re actually driving. I’m not lying, the graphics and sound in this game are sure to please.

Music: 5/10

There’s not much music in the game, only in the opening cutscene and on the main menu. It’s mostly upbeat fiddle music to set the outdoorsman mood. But why they never put music in the actual game, I’ll never know.

Controls: 4/10

When first playing, it’s required you read the instructions. The controls are kind of funky and take a while to get used to.

Gameplay: 9/10

Ooh, so close to that perfect 10! The gameplay is astounding, but it has flaws. You can only fish in certain spots, you need flat ground to place some objects, you have a Stamina meter (when that thing runs down, you go slower than a wounded Javelina), and every time you do something bad or incredibly stupid (like wreck your vehicle), the warden’s somehow right there to scold you. I think she stalks you in the backwoods.

There are 22 missions. Some are incredibly hard to beat, while others are a total cakewalk. And you can participate in contests to earn you some extra loot for deer tags in Adventure mode.

Overall Score: 9/10

This game was so great, I couldn’t bear to give it a lover score than this! In my opinion, you haven’t played a hunting game until you’ve played this GameCube masterpiece.
