Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Review

By Super Lemmy 959

Hey there, tourists who are reading this, I recently bought Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Sept. 15 and finished it (I had a lot of free time). This game is the third RPG after MLSS and MLPiT. The only thing that bugs me is why Nintendo waited so long to unleash a third installment. Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga came out back in 2003, then two years later, 2005, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time came out. But it took Nintendo four years to come up with a new installment. Other than the time it took to be released, this is what I think of the game...

Gameplay: 8

Yes, the gameplay is like all the other Mario and Luigi games. Some people might get tired of it, but the reason I gave it an 8 is because, unlike the other two, you move in 2D when you're inside Bowser. I thought it was cool. Plus, you can use Bowser for the first time! (Not counting all Mario sports games). That made the game better. So, that is why gameplay deserves an 8.

Characters: 7

Yes, it gets a seven. Why? Because most of the characters are just very old ones, but I like the cast of new characters. Toadbert is back (first seen in Partners in Time), Starlow was very cool to add and she was like Stuffwell, Dr. Toadley was a nice touch, there’s Chakron, Private Goomp, Sergeant Guy, and Corporal Paraplonk, and Midbus was also a good character. But my favorite character is a returning villian. Hint: he was once a minion, now he is the big bad boss of the game, like Cackletta and Princess Shroob. That reminds me... I've got to start a bio.

Controls: 9

It is like all the Mario games: D-pad to move, R to switch to a special ability outside of battle. I would've given it a lower number, but what made me change my mind is the way you could use Bowser in battle with his punch, flame, suction, and special attacks (which require you to use the touch screen), and how Bowser is able to grow giant to fight big bosses. But that’s not all, they improved Mario and Luigi's jump and hammer abilities. You can now hurt the enemy twice by pressing A or B after you jump on them once. It goes like this, Mario jumps on the enemy, but then jumps higher. If you press A just when he is about to hit the enemy, you can hurt them with better damage. Same goes for Luigi. This definitely deserves a 9.

Length: 8

I'll just say this... this game is longer than Superstar Saga and Partners in Time. The only reason is because you have to play many minigames when Bowser gets in trouble, or he isn't strong enough on his own. Also, there are lengthy places in Bowser's body, like the Flab Zone, that get boring. Some areas are lengthy and fun. Oh, and you will frequently have to go in and out of Bowser when you reach a certain part of the game.

Special Attacks: 10

Yes, it gets a ten. The reason? Because the special attacks are very fun and can deal a lot of damage. Green Shell and Fire Flower return, and when Mario and Luigi use the latter, they have their traditional Fire Flower suits on. Bowser's special attacks involve his minions: Goombas, Shy Guys (shouldn't they be with General Guy?), Koopas, Bob-ombs, and Magikoopas. Bowser also has a hidden special attack that he gets if you collect something for someone.

Replay Value: 9

Why should you play it again? Because there is still stuff you can go do. Inside Bowser, you can challenge six bosses that Mario and Luigi beat before, only they will be tougher than before. The final boss is fun and somewhat hard at the same time. So, yes, it is worth playing again.

Difficulty: 7

This game can somewhat get on your nerves. Some of the enemies you face will get annoying and some bosses will have annoying attacks. But the thing that really got me was the Flab Zone and Peach's Castle. Why the Flab Zone? Because it can get confusing, and when you jump on the fat, you might not go higher like you should. Peach's Castle was just very confusing and hard. Still, a lot of the places are not as hard as the ones I just named.

Graphics: 7

Just the same as Partners in Time. Not much else I can say.

Fun Factor!: 10

You heard me, 10! Yes, this game is very fun, I couldn't put it down! I really like the return of a minor villain who is now the big villain. There are also hidden bosses that will fight together to take you down. Could this foreshadow another Mario and Luigi game? You'll find out what I mean when I write my boss guide. Anyway, it was very fun to use Bowser in and outside of battle, and when he turns giant to fight big bosses. The game is also very humorous. I recomend this game BIG time (pun intended).

That’s all I have. I hope you liked this Review and buy the game. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Oh, I also have one more hint for the major boss of the game... I HAVE CHORTLES!
