Well, in my second
Review after a long time, I review the third installment of the 4th gen
of Pokemon, the game series where you catch, trade, and battle. I’m also
the first to review this game. Well, I’ve bored you enough, so let’s get
to the Review. By the way, I rate 1-10, worst to best.
Graphics: 8
Very nice improvement
over the third generation. Instead of the measly sprites of a GBA, we get
fully rendered 3D characters, environments, and Pokemon. The buildings,
the areas, and the rooms are breathtaking. The view works great and it
is very fitting. The reason I took off two points is for the lack of 3D
Pokemon fights. I do realize that may be hard, although they could have
taken it one step at a time.
Sound: 6
Yeah… low score?
You got it. Some tracks are really epic, while some are playful and fun.
But others are just too dang repetitive. It will get on your nerves sometimes,
so I downgraded sound for that reason. Plus, the amount of good and bad
music is roughly balanced.
Characters/Pokemon: 8.5
Ho ho ho… Here’s the fun part. First, I’ll get rid of the characters review. As Diamond and Pearl skipped into Platinum, two main new characters were added. They essentially form a whole new sub-plot. I won’t spoil it.
Now, onto the
Pokemon. There’re 482 Pokemon available to be seen among 493 total. There
are so many choices that I find it hard to build a team at first, but trust
me, it gets easier. The part I really like about Platinum is that there
are 59 new Pokemon in the Sinnoh Dex, allowing more choice before getting
the National Dex. It truly is a great selection. The only reason this section
doesn’t have a 10 is because Poke Radar Pokemon and Beldum are way too
hard to find and catch respectively. Beldum… only has a catch rate of 3.
It is terrible. Let’s move on, shall we?
Story: 3
10-year-old. Journey
to become the Champion. Gotta catch them all. That truly is it. But, as
sort of a saving grace from the depths of a 0 score, the story of Team
Galactic and the Distortion World (great place) makes it very interesting.
I recommend watching dialogue scenes carefully.
Controls: 2
Very basic. A
to choose, B to cancel, X to open menu, Y to use registered item, and touch
screen to choose attacks in battle. It is incredibly boring, so I can’t
really say anything.
Gameplay: 9
You find Pokemon, you catch them, and you battle. Sounds boring, right?
… WRONG.
It is awesome, all the Pokemon and all the items make it great to play through. The RPG style is just plain addictive. Plus, there are plenty of factors like EV’s, stats, and move sets that makes Pokemon very deep and competitive. I gotta say this again, Pokemon can get addictive. 1 point off for too much walking.
Also, I want to
talk about the improved surfing speed, in Diamond and Pearl, it was too
painfully slow. Uggh. But now, it’s nice and speedy. Which is really awesome.
Replayability: 11+
Yup. You just
can’t beat a Pokemon game. You would have to get every Pokemon, all at
level 100 and maxed stats. Plus you need every item and 999 of each. It’s
just too much to do. It breaks the scale. You can play this game over and
over and over and over. And over. Moving on now. ?
Difficulty: Nonexistent-Scale Breaking
This one is based
on whether or not you train your Pokes and play competitively. After you
beat the story, you will be primarily collecting, trading, battling, breeding,
and raising. But if you play in the competitive scene, it can give you
a major migraine. The difficulty is what you want to make it.
Fun Factor!: 9
W00t! As long
as you beat the storyline, this game will provide loads and loads of fun.
You can easily squeeze 250 hours plus 5 times that in an instant. Well
possibly.
Overall: 9
This is a great game, and it is highly recommended to get this game. As long as you don’t hate Pokemon ,(how could you) this game is excellent. Please get this game. There is a 99.99% chance you will be satisfied. Ciao. (Dimentio style)
