*I MIGHT review all of the games, I
might not. I also MIGHT get TBB2 chapter 3 in by my birthday. but there's
no promises.
Story: 8/10
This is a direct sequel to the past
game. So if you didn't play the first one, you might not get all of it.
Anyway, Wilfre strikes back and kidnaps Heather and some other Raposa from
the village. Then using his magic staff, he removes all the color from
the village. The villagers have to ask the creator for a temporary home,
which he supplies in the form of a giant turtle. Then the creator grants
them a new hero. This is your drawing, and is what you play as for the
rest of the game. You can change the character at any time as well. So
you look for everyone around the world, helping people and stuff. You’ll
just have to play the game for the rest. I took some points off because
to understand everything you must play the first game, and because of the
whole damsel in distress thing (Heather), although it does have a few good
twists.
Controls: 10/10
Nothing to complain about at all. R is change form (you unlock the other 2 forms later on in the game), L is change weapon (you get 1 to start with, along with basic punching, and buy the other 2 later), B is jump, Y is attack, and the D-pad is move. A is select stuff. X is unused, Start is pause, and you can do a ground pound with down after jumping.
Characters: 10/10
No flaws. It's good, not perfect, but
the characters are good enough for the 10/10. And I really don't have any
complaints, but it just doesn't feel the perfection. But again, no flaws
to complain about. Jowee and Mari are the main characters, but you are
the secondary character and do all the important stuff. And Sock is funny
wearing a sock. Wilfre is a jerk. Yeah, so that's all. There's other characters,
but that's not important.
Graphics: 9/10
The pre-drawn stuff is great. The graphics
are very MapleStory-esque. The stuff you draw, unless you're Picasso, isn’t
going to look as good, but the game itself looks great. DS quality.
Bosses: 6/10
Too few bosses. The 1st, 3rd, and final
bosses are pretty lame. The first boss, at least until you figure out what
to do, is hard, but for the 3rd boss you just follow a simple pattern until
he's dead, and Wilfre is too easy. The 2nd boss is hard, I mean, you'll
die a lot due to how long he takes. Not that dieing is much of a bad thing
in this game, as there's no price for dieing at all. In fact, for collecting
coins, dieing is a strategy! In fact, I think I should mention the...
Difficulty: 6/10
It's easier than the first game. A little
too easy. As I said, the bosses are too easy, and there's no price for
death in this game. Sorry, DTL2, no challenge at all.
Length: 7/10
Hmmmm... Ok, let’s see. Started on December
25th 2009, finished it on December 29th of the same year, so... I beat
it within 4 days. But that's the main story. If you want to do EVERYTHING,
then that's going to lengthen it. But this is decent length for a DS game
that's not an RPG.
Sound: 10/10
Masterful. Some great epic tracks for
the fight scenes, sad music for the ending and other sad scenes, and good
overworld music. It's good. The sound effects are good too. The only defect
is that freaky credits song. I hate vocals in DS games.
Total Score: 66/80= 83%: B Average.
Final Words and Recommendations
If you liked the first one, buy it. Platformer fans should get it too, and artsy people should try this gem out. Although, the ending is sad, but confusing as well. I can't spoil it though. Oh, and that opening cartoon is pretty cool. So that's it for me with DTL2. Happy New Year!
