All right, let’s get cracking on this
review! **NOTE! THIS REVIEW IS ON THE VC VERSION**
Story-10/10
The storyline for Ocarina of Time is
fairly good and in-depth. You start the game as Young Link being summoned
by the Great Deku Tree (protector of Kokiri Forest, where Link resides
at the beginning of the game) and being plunged into an adventure so epic,
it lasts over 7 years! Well anyways, later into the game, Dr. Doofenshmirtz…
er, Ganondorf is up to his old tricks and has stolen the Triforce! Link,
now an adult after being asleep for 7 years (through some weird plot twist
I shan’t reveal), has to traverse deep waters, thick forests, blistering-hot
volcanic craters, and creepy dungeons (just look at the Shadow Temple and
tell me that’s not freaky) to rescue the 6 Elemental Sages (Water, Fire,
Forest, Earth, Light, and Shadow), restore peace to the Kingdom of Hyrule,
and rescue Princess Zelda!
Controls & Gameplay: 9/10
The gameplay and controls are great
and fairly easy to get the hang of. The A button lets Link roll (faster
than walking), open chests, read signs, talk to people, go faster while
riding Epona, and other things. B swings your sword (if you have one),
and the Control Stick… well, you can guess that one. The C-Stick (on the
GameCube; secondary stick on the Classic Controller) selects your items
(Deku Nuts/Sticks, Bombs, Bow, Ocarina, etc). Playing the Fairy Ocarina/Ocarina
of Time is simple, as it just uses the C-Stick and the A button. Pressing
and holding the R button puts up your shield (unless a Like-Like ate it;
don’t worry, you can get it back if you kill it fast enough!), and the
L button Z-Targets (or in this case, L-Targets). The gameplay is actually
very smooth for an N64 game, but there are times when the game lags. The
game is really straight forward, but there’s still some backtracking and
frustration involved (*coughLike-LikescoughWallmastershaaack*).
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics rock for an N64 game, which
aren’t usually known for their great graphics. There’s 3D Link, Zelda,
Ganondorf, and the mix. Epona (a horse Link befriends) actually looks like
a horse, not just some weird-looking mass of polygons. People aren’t totally
sloppy-looking like they were put together at the last second. There are
some things that are 2D and don’t really fit into the 3D environment (that’s
right, I’m talking to you, flowering plants!), but the graphics
are still good.
Sounds/Music: 8/10
You’ll just have to play it to see why
I gave the music so mediocre a rating. The ocarina songs are good (Song
of Storms, the Temple Warp songs with their cool renditions), but the songs
in some of the dungeons… bleah. I hated the song in the Forest Temple,
inside Jabu-Jabu. and (to some extent) the Shadow Temple. BUT… there
are some awesome songs that are featured in the Wii gem that is Brawl,
Gerudo Valley, for example. Okay, that’s just my opinion on the
music, so hate it if you may. But I’m stickin’ to it! Sounds… just yes.
This makes up for all the bad stuff I said about the music. Although the
(really creepy-looking) Great Fairy’s laugh sounds annoying, the Fairy
Ocarina/Ocarina of Time’s great (and extremely accurate, based on personal
experiences) sound is a must-hear. The Ocarina’s sound is the reason I
gave it this high of a score, otherwise it’d be a 5/10.
OVERALL SCORE *drum roll*… 10/10!!!
Okay, I have no reason to explain why I gave it such a good score. People that have played this know good and well what I’m talkin’ about. So pull out your Wii Points/Credit card and buy the thing! Unless you hate Zelda, you won’t think you wasted your money or time!
