Metroid Prime Review

By andy the game teen

In this Review of Metroid Prime I'll use a scale of *, being worst, to *****, being the best. Now let's begin this review of a game I think is one of the greatest of all time.

Story: ****

I like the story a lot, but I didn't think that it would take three games to tell. Basically, Samus, the heroine, receives a distress signal from a space pirate vessel. (Space pirates are her worst enemy.) Thus, she goes to investigate; upon arriving, she finds that the pirate crew that was aboard are all dead or nearly so, due to a creature known as the Parasite Queen. Samus eventually meets the Queen and kills it, which causes the vessel to self destruct. As Samus is escaping, she sees Ridley, the leader of the space pirates and her arch-nemesis. She then loses all of her equipment in an explosion. She goes to Planet Tallon IV in pursuit of Ridley. The story unfolds from there.

Controls:
Original: **
Trilogy Remake: *****

The GameCube controls are strange; the A button is used to shoot, the B button is used to jump, and the R button needs to be held down to aim. The control pad is needed to change visors. In the Wii remake, the buttons are more accessible, and all you need to do to aim is point at the screen. Overall, the GameCube controls could have been better, while the Wii controls are, in my opinion, the greatest shooter controls of all time.

Graphics: ****

I thought the graphics were amazing, blowing many Wii games out the water, especially considering the game came out in 2002. A strange thing about this trilogy is that the graphics change very little across all three games.

Levels: ****

Fantastic; the levels in this game go from intense to peaceful and amazing.  The first level is quite gruesome, with dead bodies around almost every corner, but then the second level is quiet, calm, and peaceful. The levels are great. Although, my best friend is scared witless of this trilogy because of the first level in this game as well as Metroid Prime 2. (Review coming soon.)

Bosses: *****

Bosses in videogames are important, and in fact almost makes a game for me. The bosses in this game are great, and don't take mindless shooting to kill. The final boss happens to be one of my favorite bosses of all time (my second favorite, but I digress). This boss is named after... SPOILERS. GO BUY THE GAME.

Overall: *****

I give this game a 5 out of 5 because it is amazing, to this very day. It is in fact my third favorite game of all time, and I believe that any Nintendo player should play this game at least once. Look forward to my review of the much darker Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
