All right, I'm back, and stuff. For a Review, anyway. I'll be reviewing Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Ultimate All-Stars... just rolls right off the tongue. In this game the Capcom regulars (Megaman, Ryu, Chun-Li, Morrigan, etc) and more face off against a cast of well known Tatsunoko characters that we still don't know about despite most of the shows being dubbed into English. Maybe it's because they left out Speed Racer… but I digress. This is the revival of the Capcom VS series, and it did revive the series in a way. I mean, Marvel vs Capcom 3 is coming out now, so is TvC worth it? Well, let's find out.

Story: 5/10

The story is that Yami, a big, glowing black/red orb, has caused the Capcom world and Tatsunoko worlds to fuse. Apparently this must be stopped by defeating Yami. However, you'd never know this by playing the game or viewing the characters’ end stories. In fact, only a handful of endings actually mention the dimensional shift and Yami (Karas and Morrigan’s.) Most stories just do their own thing. lus the Story seems dated and done as well. So because of this I’ll only give it a 5.

Characters: 9/10

The characters are great. There's everyone's favorite Capcom crew members like Ryu, Megaman, Viewtiful Joe, Frank West... along with some epic Tatsunoko guys like Karas, Tekkaman, Joe the Condor, Yatterman 1… Yeah, I just spoiled 2 secret characters, I know, but so does the BOX! (It shows ALL the characters.) The characters are great. The only thing is that I didn't know ANYTHING about the Tatsunoko characters or even some of the Capcom characters (the obscure ones), so I deducted a point. That's it though.

Controls 10/10

The controls work great... I assume... I button mash... don't judge me. But when I don't, I do try the regular controls and they are very smooth. Think of it like Street Fighter but faster, cooler, and more combo-based. There are 4 control types: Wiimote NES style, Wiimote and Nunchuck, Classic Controller, and GameCube Controller; and there is also an exclusive arcade stick controller if you can find it. The GCN controller is what I use, and it's recommended you use that or the Classic Controller. 10/10 for the two best ways.

Graphics 10/10

The graphics will blow you away! For one thing it has a lot of color (unlike most of today’s dominant games, like CODMW2), and for the Wii it's amazing. The explosions and lazors will just amaze you. Ryu's Shinkin Hadouken looks beautiful, and overall the graphics are great, except for the mini gme. But that's only because they chose 2D for that instead of 3D, and it clashes. But the minigame isn't even a main part of the game anyway. It's entirely optional, plus you need to unlock it anyway. 10/10

Secrets 7/10
Well there are 5 hidden characters, all are on the box, and the minigame. Plus there are all the things in the shop, but that's only alternate pallets, gallery stuff, and extra images and movies. It’s not much to get, but the reason this didn’t get a lower score is because the characters you get are AWESOME! They are:

Capcom Side
Frank West (Dead Rising)
Zero (Megaman X)
Tatsunoko Side
Joe the Condor (Gatchaman)
Yatterman 2 (Yatterman)
Tekkaman Blade (Tekkaman)

Two of these are my favorite characters, Frank and Joe.

Online N/A

Unfortunately I can't even Judge this category since my game wouldn't connect to a good fight, they all lagged. But most other Reviews I've seen say it's great for WiFi, so I'll have to assume it's great. I've never been able to really test it out so no judgment here. From what I here though, they try to get around the whole friend codes thing by having users make a rivals list of their own, through random battles. So if you get this game, you can test it out yourself.

Sound 8/10

This is the sound category, not music. It's an 8 because it's all the basic fighting game sounds. The attacks sound real and the fighters sound like they’re in a lot of pain when they lose - and I bet they are. If you look at the combo thing it shows how much damage was dealt. One of the weakest attacks of the game is Megaman’s Basic Megabuster move. Even with it doing just two hits, the combo thing says that the move did 2 BILLION DAMAGE. The weakest move in the game does over 2 BILLION DAMAGE. Yeesh... but I digress. So the fighters sound realistic and there’s no awful dubbing either, the game retains its original Japanese dubbing. Don't worry, the game is in English, the characters just speak Japanese, except for the new characters like Viewtiful Joe and Frank West that were added into the American Version Ultimate All Stars. (There are 2 different versions: Japan has Cross Generation of Heroes, America has Ultimate All Stars.) So the sound is great, but the hit sounds are generic Street Fighter stuff.

Music 6/10

The songs are great, but they aren't very memorable. Only 2 stand out in my opinion: the main theme and the Galactic System Cargo Bay stage song. I think that's what the stage is called, anyway. So if only 2 songs are really memorable, then it only gets a decent 6/10 for this category.

The Minigame! 9/10

Like I said, the mini game is optional, but it's fun. It's a SHMUP game with 4 characters: Ryu (best character by far), PTX40A (he's ok, being the only one who actually shoots beams like a real SHMUP character), Ken the Eagle (uses a weird boomerang thing), and Tekkaman Blade (not made for a SHMUP since he doesn't have a projectile.)

Each character has a Basic Move, a Special Move, and an Ultra Move that deals TONS of damage. The game is fun and enjoyable, but in some cases it can get intense and be hard to shoot at the right thing since you have to face the thing directly and you have to turn around in this game, it's not like Space Invaders where you're always facing the front. This is an unlockable feature and is good, but only to waste time. But in it's own category it’s good.

FUN FACTOR! 10/10

Isn't having fun the only thing that matters in games? I mean, the Godzilla Fighting games might not be that good but they're fun at least. TvC is extremely fun and enjoyable. 10/10.

Gameplay 10/10

Wow, I almost forgot to review the Gameplay. That would've been dumb. Anyway, the gameplay is great. First you have to choose your starting Character and then your partner character. The game is on a Tag-Team System: if one character is taking too much damage, switch to your other character and continue playing. Your partner in reserve can also do an Assist attack, like Ryu will launch a Hadouken, Feank uses his camera, and Joe the Condor shoots with his gun; but if your partner gets hit during this, he'll take twice as much damage as normal. So if they get hit with Megaman's Megabuster they'll take 4 BILLION DAMAGE! Which is still pretty weak.

Once one character is knocked out, you have to KO the other; once both are beaten, you win the fight. There are no rounds, as the fights will probably take between 3-5 minutes but could even last up to 10 minutes if your opponent is skilled. Or if you're experiencing Lag, like I do. In story mode, there are 7 regular fights, 1 of which is against a robot character, There are 2 robots, G. Lightan and PTX40A. They get no partners as they are strong and large, but they have large hitboxes. They act like minibosses in this mode, and in Time Trial where you fight both. After the seven regular fights there’s an 8th fight against Yami the Giant Evil Bakugan Thing from Okami. He has 3 Forms: Ball, Leg and Tentacle-Armed Ball, and Ball with a Giant Tiger Claw sticking out. Yami is a ball, if you didn't know. Once beaten, you get the ending for the character that made the final blow. Time Trial is the same but you don't fight Yami, instead you fight the other robot. Survival mode doesn’t have Yami either as there is no end, instead you see how long you can last. The Gameplay is great, so it's a 10/10.

Final Words

Tatsunoko vs Capcom is an amazing game. If you're looking for a Wii fighting game besides Brawl, this is the one to get. Capcom has outdone themselves with this gem. There is some good humor, fun gameplay, great graphics for the Wii, and it's just plain epic and rivals Brawl. (Yeah, that's right, a rival to the console's premiere fighting franchise.) This title is a must-own for fighting game fanatics. I would highly recommend this game. So you should buy this game.

Coming up next: Tatsunoko vs Capcom VS Super Smash Bros. Brawl Comparison. I said it's a rival to Brawl, so which is better? Find out next time. If I don't go on hiatus again.
