Hulk (2003)

"There is a certain law out there in the fields of gaming. And that law is, if there is a movie, cartoon, comic, or book, there's a game tie-in of it. Well, not all of the things in these categories get a game adaptation, but there are a lot. It’s a part of life, and never-ending. I can't control it, but that doesn't mean I won't review it. That's right, I'm not just a game reviewer, I'm a media game reviewer.

My specialty is games based off of movies, cartoons, comics, and books. While some might say that's stupid to center my reviews around these type of games, I decided to just review them. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this review from yours truly, "The Media Gamer".

Ok, since this is my first Review, here's how I, SuperLuigi46, am going to do things. I'm going to rate each category (you know, graphics, music, etc.) from 0 to 10, 0 being the worst, 10 being the best. You know, standard stuff. Now the first game I'm going to review is one that kinda slipped away from the gaming audience a couple years after its release.

While not being totally forgotten, this game is the least brought up when talking about these types of games. And what is this game? Hulk from 2003.

No, not based on the comics, no, this was based on the Ang Lee called Hulk. Which by the way, is a pretty good flick, just longer than it should've been. So anyway, let’s get on with the Review.

Story: 6/10

Nothing special here, guys. Bruce Banner gets tricked by his mentor, who steals some of the Hulk's energy, turning himself into Ravage; and the Leader wants to create a world of gamma men. Typical story.

Graphics: 9/10

Wow. These graphics are pretty unique. Instead of hard, gritty graphics or cartoony graphics, this game's graphics are actually a mix. The game has gritty graphics but also adds a comic book-like feel to it. Plus the color is sorta shaded in. giving you a sort of painting-like feel. Besides some edges here and there, the graphics are spot on.

Sound: 9/10

Simply having Eric Banna reprise his role as Banner already gave this a 5, but what made it get a 9 was the music. It’s suspenseful, it’s gloomy, it’s sometimes actiony, it’s good. Plus some of the other voice acting was good. But Betty Ross' voice…  Ugh. She was so whiny! And whoever was playing her sounded a lot like Jennifer Connoly but it was so wooden! I know Eric Banna's' voice sometimes can get annoying seeing him monologue through half the game, but her voice was unacceptable and she isn't even in the game much!

And then there's stupid lines like "Is it friendly?" This is said by lots of the soldiers you meet as the Hulk. And it’s a no brainer why they're easy to kill.

Characters: 12/10

Really wow! Boy do you get a lot here! Not only do you have Bruce and Betty, but you also have more characters from the comics as well! Like Ravage, The Leader, Madman, Half Life, Gneral Ryker, and more! They went full out with the characters here!

Gameplay: 7/10.

Interesting. There are 2 parts of the gameplay: Hulk parts and the Banner parts. The Hulk parts need no intro, just smash your way through. But the Banner parts are actually stealth motivated and resemble games like Metal Gear and Splinter Cell. Now most people have complained that the Banner parts are too hard and boring, and while I agree they're still pretty unique for a Hulk and something I haven't seen since.

The boss battles are pretty basic: you fight the bosses, some have certain weak points that can kill them faster. Basic stuff. I put a 7 rating because, well, after a while both parts of the game overstay they're welcome before you play the next part.

Fun Factor!: 7/10.

You won't be bored with this game, especially if you’re a die hard Hulk fan. But it gets old pretty early into the game. And lots of the levels are hard! Especially the one where you’re Bruce Banner and in the underground Alcatraz base and the first obstacle is giant mutant dogs. And whatever you do, don't run, that'll wake them up and as Banner you don't want that.

But yeah, it’s fun to an extent but it gets really hard.

Overall: 9/10.

This game is a pretty good game. Is it as good as Ultimate Destruction, the one that came later? No! This game doesn't compare to that masterpiece. But it's still a good game, probably on par with the first Spider-Man game based off the movie.

Well I'm the Media Gamer and this is goodbye until the next Review.
