Storyline:
PM: 5/10
PM2: 8/10
SPM: 9/10
Paper Mario’s
story was basically Super Mario Bros’ story but with added height and text,
because Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser and Mario saves her. It lost lots
of points for that. Paper Mario: TTYD was MUCH better because it was new
and original, and it introduced lots more things! And instead of Bowser
as the main villain there are these weird alien things called X-Nauts.
But Peach got kidnapped in that as well so it loses a few points there.
Super Paper Mario, however, had the best storyline of the series. There
are two books called the Light Prognosticus and the Dark Prognosticus.
After his girlfriend went missing, Blumiere found the latter book and turned
into Count Bleck and tries to destroy all worlds and dimensions.
Graphics:
PM: 7/10
PM2: 8/10
SPM: 5/10
These scores are
based on what I think their respective system can handle. Paper Mario’s
were smooth and nice. PM2’s were even better considering Hooktail the dragon’s
model was paper but not flat! But... SPM’s were not that good for the Wii.
A lot of people know that it was originally being made for the GCN so I
guess they didn’t have time to upgrade the graphics.
Gameplay:
PM: 8/10
PM2: 9/10
SPM: 6.75
The Paper Mario
series combines my two favorite game genres: RPG and Platform. All of the
games have partners with cool attack moves. The PM gameplay was fun and
the exploration to find hidden objects was cool. Finding a yellow block
with a blue ball in it means you can upgrade one of your party members,
and you will be exited every time you see one of these. In PM2 the gameplay
was greatly improved with the addition of the audience and party member
HP. In SPM there was no FP, badges or battles and it was a 2D sidescroller!
But it had a flip ability that let you switch between 2D and 3D.
Music:
PM: 7/10
PM2: 6.5/10
SPM: 10/10
The music is good
in the first two but is AMAZING in SPM! I especially like Mr. L’s theme.
Battles:
PM: 6.5/10
PM2: 8/10
SPM: 4/10
The battles are
nice in PM and you can use badges and special attacks to defeat enemies
quicker. I liked the addition of the audience in PM2. I was disappointed
with SPM because it was not turn-based.
Length and Difficulty:
PM: 7.5/10
PM2: 8.5/10
SPM: 6/10
They all consist
of eight chapters and in SPM each of them are divided into four. The puzzles
in each of the games are hard but PM2 is hardest, especially the riddle
tower. SPM is short because you breeze through most of the chapters and
there is barely a chapter 6.
Puzzles:
PM: 10/10
PM2: 10/10
SPM: 10/10
Wow, Nintendo
really outdid themselves here! The puzzles in all three games are interesting
and challenging. I know giving each game a perfect score means to say that
they are absolutely perfect, but trust me, they are. PM2’s paper abilities
and SPM’s flip ability add even more puzzles to the later 2 games.
Replayability:
PM: 8/10
PM2: 10/10
SPM: 10/10
They all have
excellent replayability but PM loses points for not having an “endless
play mode”, where you can roam free around the worlds after completing
the game
Fun Factor! :
PM: 8/10
PM2: 9/10
SPM: 7/10
All are very fun.
Bowser is very funny in all, especially in the PM2 interludes. The trouble
center and Koopa Koot sidequests are both very fun. SPM loses points for
not having any sidequests.
Overall:
PM: 7/10
PM2: 8.3/10
SPM: 7.3/10
Get 2 first before you even THINK about getting the others. At least rent the others. If not, buy them when you get enough money. Here ends my Review on three of the greatest games ever. This is Yoshi’s Clone signing off.
