Characters
-Axel (he's average in everything)
-B.D. Joe (this guy even sleeps in
his cab!)
-Gena (well, there had to be a girl!)
-Gus (this taxi’s like a tank!)
Courses
-Arcade (easier and simpler)
-Original (harder, also has the infamous
train and subway "bug", the funniest thing in any video game ever)
Rated “T” for “Teen”: There’s some profanity (swearing), and some lyrics that might offend some people.
Graphics: **1/2
Good, but not great. You’ve got some
things nice and pretty, but the people look a little fake. Plus, sometimes
people walk through buildings. Also, there is still too much blockiness
at times. But mostly
everything else looks beautiful.
Sound: ****
Great music! It’s “real” music, too!
Sure, I had never heard that music before, but it’s really good! Plus,
you’ve got those passengers screaming at you too, saying anything mean
they want to at you! The horn and
bell from your bike if you unlocked
it (simply press L1, R1, L1, R1, L1, R1 really fast before choosing your
character for a bike) sound great, too! Perfect rating! Although, this
is the highest point of this game.
Characters: *
The characters get annoying after a
while, and you’ll get bored with them quickly. The voices of the
passengers are reoccuring as well,
making them annoying, although they do look pretty funny.
Difficulty: *1/2
This game isn’t that hard. The only
hard things are a few of the Crazy Box mini-games. The actual gameplay
is easy, but that’s what makes it fun.
Gameplay: ***
The gameplay is easy, as I just said. You pick up customers by stopping in their area, then drive to their destination and stop in that area. It’s very easy to follow, but a few of those tricks, like Crazy Dash and Crazy Drift, are extremely hard to pull off, and you’ll need to for the mini-games. The game is good for the basic driving, but not for the special moves.
Controls: ***
The controls are pretty easy. The Control
Pad or Control Stick is your steering, with you having a choice of L &
R being your acceleration and brake, or your drive and reverse gears. Then
X and O are the other controls. Not bad, but sometimes I get confused which
one’s which with the L and R buttons, and the
controls don’t work well for those
special moves. They’re still good.
Arcade Map: **1/2
This map is perfect for easy pick-up
and drop-off of customers. It’s easier than the original map, but you
have trolleys and more smaller obstacles
than the original map. Overall, it’s the one you’ll like better for competition
for the high score, but you lack the fun of the original map.
Original Map: ***1/2
This map has it all: a train, a subway, water, a drawbridge, BIG hills, being able to get on roofs of buildings, and much more. It’s a ton of fun if you’re not competing but rather exploring. It can get you lost easily, however, which is why it loses half a star.
Crazy Box Mini-Games: *1/2
Not that good. These are hard in the
first place, even harder if you can’t pull off the moves, and hardest if
you get frustrated easily. That equals
hardest for me. They’re not a bad idea, but they need to be more
feasible.
Replayability: **
This game can be played over and over again until you’ve seen everything. Even then you can try the train and subway bug trick (by stopping in front of it, making it derail, then watching it go crazy), but it does get pretty old with only two places.
Fun Factor!: ***1/2
This is the next-highest point of the game to the sound. It’s fun, especially with crashing, chasing, speeding, and making the train and subway go crazy. Maybe that’s only my version of the game that has the “train bug”, though...
OVERALL: ***
Unfortunately for your budget, this
game’s definitely worth buying. For GameCube owners, although the
Simpsons: Road Rage may have better
characters and Smashing Drive may have more destruction, you can’t go wrong
with the original and still the best taxi game that exists. It’s especially
for fans of driving/racing games.
