Super Mario Advance 2 Review

By Ludwig 222

Ok... so you thought I would forget about the SMA2 Review that I said I would do... months ago?! Ok, here it is. SMA2 is Super Mario World for the GBA. It's a little different from the original in a few ways: you can switch between Mario and Luigi on the map screen by pressing R. If you press Select on the map screen, you'll come to a screen with scores and "stuff". There are also Dragon Coins in castles and fortresses. Oh yeah, and this is still scaled on 0-4 stars like it "was".

Graphics: **1/2

The graphics are okay... for most of the characters. The only characters that don't look good are the Koopalings, since they are wearing different colored shells. Other than that, most baddies look good.

Sound/Music: ***1/2

The sound is okay, since Mario and Luigi have voices... and what they say can be...c lever. For example, if they jumped off Yoshi in mid-air they would say "Waha" (or however you would spell it). The Koopalings don't talk.. or at least I don't think so. The music is also okay, but it is also a tiny bit different than it would usually be.

Controls: ***1/2

The controls are pretty easy... except for flying, which I'll explain later. A is jump, Control Pad is walking, and with B its running. R is jump off Yoshi, spin jump, and switch between Mario and Luigi. Start is pause, of course. Select is to drop what you have in reserve and takes you to the status screen. And the hardest is flying. It can be really hard to do sometimes like when you're flying over the giant lava pit in the Forest Fortress. Also, with Yoshi you can't jump very high, which means that you'll need to jump off him in mid-air if you can't reach a platform.

Terrain: ***1/2

The terrain is nice... though there isn't as much as SMB3. No deserts or icy areas (unless you count the icy caves and the snowy secrets rooms of Mondo and Chocolate Island 3. However, there are new areas. There are forests, and (as I'll call them) nighttime areas.

Diffuculty: ***

This game can be diffucult... in some ways. Some levels seem to be either easy (Forest Secret Area) or hard (Outrageous). The harder levels are very annoying and you'll eventually beat them.

Mario Bros.: no stars

Same as Super Mario Advance so it probably couldn't barely get a star!

Fun Factor!: ***1/2

This game is pretty fun... actually. It can be fun trying to find all the secret levels! Or get the Top Secret Area and Special Zone! Basically, I'll call this game "fun".

Overall: *** 1/2

This game is fun, and you should buy it. I don't know where you can find it, but my best guess is Kmart.
