I modestly consider my deck to be nearly perfect, but recently I had a scare. One thing all players should do is learn from their battles, whether they win or lose. I will share what I learned from this battle.
This battle was with someone I thought I would beat easily, but I had a bundle of troubles, and I hope my opponent is reading this and knows how well he really did. None of this player's Minions were able to deal more than 30 damage, but if they had then I might have been in serious trouble.
Usually I only have a few, sometimes even no, cards in my hand, as I don't have ways to get extra cards and I usually play what I have quickly. This is a problem that my challenger did not have, as he worked it out to have many cards in his hand. This worked to his advantage because he was able to play new Minions faster than I could knock them out, he always seemed to have the Energy he needed, and he even got out evolved forms much faster than I would have expected. Because he had so many cards he was able to pull a lot of stunts on his turn, while I was left to counter with my small hand.
There are two main ways in which you can give yourself large hands. One way is to include in your deck cards that allow you to draw extra cards to to retrieve cards from your discard pile. The other way, which really can work extremely well, is to hoard cards instead of playing them. When the time is right, which depends on what your deck is and on what your opponent is doing, pull a trick and play lots of cards. Slam down that evolved form, drop on some Energy, and take control of the game.
Any deck can use the hoarding method; all you have to do is make the decision to do so, and get some practice in doing it. There is such a thing as too big a hand, i.e. not using cards when you should, and you need to learn when the right time to release your cards is. Also, consider keeping track of the number of cards your opponent is holding. If it's getting large, be careful.
