When I look at this common Basic Minion, I see a lot of potential. For one thing, since he can accept Energy of any type, he can fit into any deck. The Minions he evolves into are very strong, plus the Koopalings are just cool cards to have as well. But a lot of players are bound to neglect the power that this card has all by itself.
Obviously, the power about which I write is not attack power. Super Koopa can only cause 10 damage per turn, which shouldn't be a problem to anyone. I hope you have a Minion in play that can do more than 10 damage. No, Super Koopa's power is defensive. He acts as a decoy and takes damage for more important Minions.
Let me try to explain what I mean. Suppose I am battling someone, and they put a Super Koopa in play. I know that Super Koopa can evolve into something stronger, but I don't know what that will be, although I may be able to guess. Since I can't be sure, I'm going to get nervous because I probably am not prepared to handle every one of Super Koopa's evolutions. Therefore, if given the chance, I will probably attack and knock out Super Koopa. My opponent has lost a Basic Minion, but in the meantime their other Minions and Buildings have not received damage.
My strategy for Super Koopa is to stick him, or several of him, in lands that your opponent can reach. If your opponent gets scared, they will try to knock Super Koopa out, but you don't care because you know that Super Koopa is only a decoy. In the meantime, your other Minions are getting stronger, and they could be attacking too. In case your opponent doesn't seem impressed by your Super Koopa, it is perfectly acceptable to try to convince your opponent that you plan to evolve. If you have a fire deck, drop a comment about having or using Morton Koopa. Your opponent may think you're serious.
Of course, you might actually want to evolve your Super Koopa, and there's nothing wrong with doing so because many of his evolutions are strong. If you plan to evolve, you will want to stick Super Koopa in a land that your opponent can't reach, since, as explained above, they will almost certainly knock it out if they can.
Power to the little guy!
