Well I said I would write an article for every promo card, so though I have taken a while, here is my article for the second such card.
First off, let’s work with the assumption that it’s going to be very hard to build a deck around Baby Bowser. You should have a good supply of a card you are building your deck around and, like any promo card, Baby Bowser is hard to come by. Even if you already have one you would need a lot more to make him a star, and he’s gonna be expensive, not to mention the fact that you’ll have to have won a bunch of battles already so that you have some Card Points.
Therefore, he is going to be an assistant. If you’ve read my other articles, you should know that I stress simplicity in a deck. In other words, a deck should be easy to use, and one way to do this is to have many ways to win. Baby Bowser can never lead the charge all by himself, but he can lend a hand and provides another possibility of how to win.
Baby Bowser is at his best in a deck that is built around having lots of Minions in play. For only two Energies Baby Bowser can cause 10 damage for every Minion in his land. Obviously the damage toll will add up quickly when a deck can put many Minions in play. Now, this kind of deck already has a strategy, probably something along the lines of overwhelming the opponent, swarming over lands, and causing just enough damage to win. But Baby Bowser provides another option; now the player can also win by causing serious damage.
Since he can attack for only one Energy, Baby Bowser is also a good choice in a deck that aims to cause damage right away, or in a deck that is short on Energy. Now that one Energy attack is kinda chancy, but I can’t think of any other Minion who can cause 30 damage for just one Energy. This makes Baby Bowser an easy to use option.
How about some back-up for those heavy hitters? Decks that aim to cause lots of damage often run into trouble finding the cards they need. They usually rely on evolved Minions and lots of Energy, and sometimes these things just aren’t coming up in the draw. Because Baby Bowser is a Basic Minion and has a low Energy requirement, he is a good choice to pull together what you do have. Baby Bowser can make use of those lame unevolved Minions scattered around and cause some good damage, perhaps even as much as that AWOL evolved form.
Because of his ease use, Baby Bowser is very flexible and can probably fit into any deck that already has Evil Energy. The ideas listed above are just some of the ways he can be used; I’m sure you can think of some more. Well, I hope so anyway. Any battle that Baby Bowser ends up in is sure to get interesting…
