Foundation
Tail Koopa

You need a Foundation to construct other Buildings. But wait, we already know that. Why make a strategy article about Foundation? Well, it must that there is ANOTHER way to use this card.

What if you place the Foundation in a land that your opponent can reach? Even better than this, what if you place it when you have a strong Minion who can do decent damage to your opponent? Now why would you even place Foundation in one of your lands where your opponent can reach it? It only has 10 HP. It could very easily be Knocked Out by your opponent, if he or she chooses to attack it. That’s the idea! You want your opponent to attack it.

Do you get what I mean? One of Lemmy’s articles explains about Super Koopa being a decoy. Super Koopa has the potential to evolve into those Koopalings. Your opponent might get nervous that you will evolve it and will attack it instead of your other Minions. While your opponent is attacking Super Koopa, you have more time with your other Minions.

Foundation is the same idea as Super Koopa. Like Super Koopa, Foundation can be a decoy. You could note to your opponent that you are planning to construct a Fortress in your next turn. Your opponent would think that you're bluffing, but he or she doesn’t want to risk ignoring the Foundation. After all, he or she fears that you may construct a Building like Fortress in your next turn. So your opponent gets nervous. The fact that Foundation has only 10 HP will only encourage your opponent to attack it. And so your opponent attacks Foundation, destroying it, but you gain more time to help yourself.

However, you would still be upset that your Foundation is in the discard pile. But there is more to this strategy article. Use cards like Grate Guy to bring back that Foundation to your hand. Play it again, but this time you might want to make sure you have another Building first. Your opponent would probably not attack Foundation again, but that would be his or her mistake. Slap down a Building to Foundation, and make your opponent realize his or her error.

With this strategy, you want to sometimes fake it out and sometimes really do it, if you get what I mean. Get your opponent to attack Foundation to gain you some time, and not attack it when you’re actually going to construct a Building. Remember to not leave a pattern (ex: 2 times you fake out your opponent, then the next two times you construct a Building to Foundation, then repeat that process). Make it unpredictable. Your opponent won’t know what to do, whether to attack Foundation or not. With cards that can bring Foundation back like Grate Guy, you don’t have to worry about your Foundation being in a discard pile for long. This strategy fits well in certain types of deck, such as those with heavy hitters to stall time for making your Minions stronger.

However, if you have a Building that has an effect that doesn’t work on just one land, like Throne Room, by all means, play Foundation in a land that your opponent can’t reach, and play Throne Room later.
