1. Introduction and Instructions

Yoshi Touch & Go is a fun game that is replayable. Eventually. You may be discouraged when stuck at certain areas you can’t get through. That’s what this guide is for. We’ll tell you our secrets to getting past that default high score and replacing them with insane scores, like 10,000 yards on Marathon or 600 points on Score Attack. Soon you’ll be trying to beat your old scores!

We assume that you already know the basics from the demo in the game, so we’ll continue with our fruit and Yoshi charts.

2. Score Attack

Score Attack is one of the first two modes available to play. The object is to get as many points by the end of the course. The course is 400-1000 yards, with the better the Yoshi, the longer the course. With that being said, it would be best for you to try to get as many points as you can in the sky so the course will give you more opportunities to get lots of points. This involves:

•        Guiding Baby Mario through as many coins as possible
•        Circling enemies and coins and tossing them to Baby Mario
•        Preventing Baby Mario from touching enemies
•        Have Baby Mario run through lots of coins to get combos

The ground course is pretty basic and remains the same every time. My suggestions are:

•        Circle groups of enemies into one bubble
•        Toss eggs at rows of coins and/or enemies
•        Using coin-filled bubbles to make combos

After beating the high score of 300, you will unlock Time Attack, which will be mentioned later.

3. Marathon

Marathon mode is also one of the first modes available to you. The object is to get as far as you can with Yoshi; the course is literally endless. Every 1000 yards you will upgrade your Yoshi to a better Yoshi. With that said it is actually pointless to start out with a good Yoshi and max out your Baby Mario score. Every 1000 yards will be harder than the last. To get a good high score, consider the following:

Only if you want to get a high Baby Mario score:
•        Use clouds to guide Baby Mario through lots of coins
•        While sliding down clouds, circle lots of enemies and throw them to Baby Mario
•        Don’t lose focus on where Baby Mario is going
•        Circle multiple enemies to get bonus points
•        Get bonus points by getting five or more coins in a row

If you want to get far on the ground with Yoshi:
•        Turn into Baby Mario as many times as possible, get 100 points
•        Get lots of combos to turn into Baby Mario as many times as possible
•        Always try to have a full egg capacity
•        The only enemies you should worry about in the sky are blue Fly Guys and Lakitus, others only waste eggs
•        Every time you shoot down a Lakitu, you get 5 points for the second one in a row, then 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 etc. Get as many 30 point Lakitus as possible
•        Use cloud walls to block enemies if necessary
•        Circle enemies to conserve eggs when possible

Notes:
•        You will get an Orange Yoshi at 10,000 yards
•        You will get a Purple Yoshi at 20,000 yards
•        You may sometimes get a White Yoshi after riding a Black Yoshi, although this is an unsolved mystery that has something to do with how well you did as Black Yoshi
•        You will get Challenge Mode after getting at least 3,000 yards in Marathon Mode

4. Time Attack
Time Attack is a secret mode that can be accessed only by getting a high score on Score Attack. The object of this mode is to save Baby Luigi from the Toadies by firing eggs at him. The sky level now has stars that will transform Baby Mario into Super Baby Mario. He is now invulnerable at this state and can destroy enemies with a simple touch. He descends at a faster rate as well. What I suggest is:
•        Stay in the Super form as long as possible
•        Hit lots of enemies to rack up points
•        Don’t hit any bumpers: they’ll slow you down

The ground level has quite a few Briers, along with two Piranha Plants, a gold Tap Tap, two Shy Guys, two blue Fly Guys, and Toadies in purple and red. My choices are:

•        Keep your eggs conserved: you’ll need them later
•        Dodge the Tap Tap and fire at Briers- circle the Shy and Fly Guys or ignore them
•        The Piranha Plants can be killed with the Tap Tap by hitting Tap Tap with eggs
•        Once the Toadies appear, fire one egg at a time
•        Hitting the group three times will cause one of them to separate from the group. Hit that one once and it will go away
•        Repeat until one is left. Fire at it three times, then it will drop Baby Luigi

Notes:
•        After completing Time Attack in less than 3 minutes, you can play as White Yoshi by getting 0 points in the sky level of this mode.
•        You must have over 300 points in Score Attack in order to play this mode.
•        White Yoshi may have unlimited eggs but it may handicap you in Time Attack for it walks slower than a Black Yoshi

5. Challenge

Challenge mode is another secret mode that is unlockable by getting 3000 yards in Marathon Mode. The object of this mode is to get as far as you can on the ground within a time limit. Every time you shoot down an enemy you will get 1-4 more seconds on the clock. The mode is set in a jungle area with LOTS of Briers, which is good for getting lots of combos. Here are some tips to getting a high score on Challenge Mode.

In the sky:
•        Always be invincible so you can hit spiked enemy and get more points
•        There will be multiple paths of coins, so go down one path and circle coins in the other path.
•        As always circle enemies or multiple enemies

Here are some tips for when on the ground:
•        Always have a full egg capacity
•        Hit POW Blocks when they come by. You will get bonus points from hitting coins with eggs. More points means more fruit, more fruit means more eggs, more eggs means you will stay alive
•        Enemies on the ground should be your only concern, others waste eggs UNLESS they have fruit attached to them
•        The faster your Yoshi, the more fruit you will encounter
•        Always walk on a straight cloud path drawn straight through the upper middle part of the screen, you will dodge bats and Gusties from underneath and still have room to shoot fruit down
•        Listen carefully! If you hear any rattling noises that means the Red Briers are coming! Fire at the Skeleton Goonies to prevent them from coming

Notes:
•        After beating the default high score of 3,000 yards, you will be able to get Purple Yoshi by getting 0 points in the sky portion
•        Purple Yoshi may be very fast and may keep you alive by giving you more fruit, but a Black Yoshi that holds 70+ eggs is probably better, outweighing Purple Yoshi’s speed benefit
•        To unlock Challenge Mode, you must have traveled over 3,000 yards in Marathon Mode
•        If you are super good and can get past 18,000 yards, your game will slow down as a performance glitch. This does not harm your game

6. VS. Mode

VS. Mode is a single card Two-Player game that connects wirelessly. To run it, the first player selects “VS.” on the menu screen. The second player selects “Download Play” on their DS menu screen and waits for the connection. As soon as both players are connected they can play.

Objective: Make it to 1,000 yards before your opponent does.

Rules: Each player starts with a Green Yoshi. Player One gets Baby Mario, and Player Two gets Baby Luigi. Players can throw eggs to get combos, which release Red Briers onto the opponent’s side to slow them down.

How to lose: Fall in a hole, touch an enemy, or don’t make it to goal.

How to win: Make it to the goal and/or survive while opponent fails.

If you have a lot of Briers on your side, just fire back when they contract their spikes.

7. Balloon Pop Mini Game
To unlock the Balloon Pop Mini Game you must beat the default high score in all four of the modes. To access this game simply tap a balloon that flies across your menu screen. The object of this game is also simple: just pop a lot of balloons to get a lot of points. Use your stylus to pop balloons. Here are some tips:

•        Popping the same color of balloon in a row will give you 2 points for one balloon instead of 1 point
•        Be fast and accurate, make sure you aim and hit every balloon that flies across the screen
•        Slower balloons are generally easier to get bonus points with since the same color groups up over time, faster balloons do not group up as easily

Notes:
•        The color and speed of the balloons corresponds with the color and speed of the Yoshis
•        Some people may use two styluses but this is just stupid and makes things more complicated, use one stylus
