Super Mario Bros. 3 Guide

By Hip

Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of the best, if not the best, games ever made. Shame on you if you’ve had access to an NES or an SNES and refused to play this game. Of course, why would you be here if you didn’t own this game? Why is this game so good? As if you already didn’t know, it’s completely AWESOME! There is just so much stuff to find and so many levels, you’ll never get bored of it! Plus it’s LOTS of fun! Sorry for exaggerating, but it’s my favorite game of any kind. But enough blah-blah-blah, let’s get started.

While this walkthrough will point out interesting things throughout the levels, it’s meant for people who are familiar with the game in some way or another. This isn’t “Super Mario Bros. 3 For Dummies, just strategies and secrets and all that stuff. It’s not gonna have every last detail, but it’s still helpful.

Controls

A (NES, SNES) B or (SNES): Jump, flap Raccoon tail, confirm selection, etc.

B (NES) X or Y (SNES): Shoot fireballs or hammers, fling Raccoon tail, opens up item selection on map screen, hold to run, cancel selection. If you’re ducking while wearing a Tanooki Suit, press B to turn into a statue.

Control Pad: Right moves you right. Left moves you left. Up is used while jumping to get out of the water and into upside down pipes as well as moving on the map and menus. Down lets you duck, enter pipes, and move around on the map and menus.

Start: Pauses the game.

Select: Moves the cursor on the menu. Pretty useless as the Control Pad does the same thing.

Grass Land

Map: There is nothing special about this map. Everything is out in the open.

Level 1

First get a Mushroom, then get a Super Leaf in the blocks near the start. Now clear out the two Goombas and the Paragoomba. Use the stretch of land they were on as a runway and fly into the sky following the trail of coins to some clouds with coins and a 1-Up. Fly off the clouds to the right until you reach a pipe. Take it to a coin room.

Level 2

At around the middle of the level, there’s a pipe in mid-air with two blocks under it and coins to its left side. One of the blocks has a P-Switch which can be used to help you get on top of the pipe. You can also fly on top if you have Raccoon power. Above the pipe is a hidden 1-Up. The pipe leads to a coin room.

Level 3

Near the start, there’s a section of blocks with a Koopa Troopa on it. Use the Koopa to break the blocks. Once the bricks are cleared, search for a pink note block that leads to a coin heaven. In the coin heaven, after the second group of coins, fly up and try to get the 1-Up. After the coin heaven, go back a bit until you reach a white platform with a Koopa Troopa on it. Get rid of him and hold down on the control pad for a few seconds while standing on the platform to get behind the scenery. Run to the end of the level, and you should go behind the black part and end up in a Toad House containing a Warp Whistle.

Level 4

Collect all the coins you can! It’s difficult but not impossible. All of the coins are out in the open or in blocks you have to hit several times. With a bit of practice, you can get them all and get rewarded with a secret Toad House which contains a P-Wing.

Fortress

When you reach the Dry Bones and a door, make sure you have Raccoon power. Now, instead of entering the door, fly over the wall and try to get above the screen. Go over to the right and press up to enter a door that will lead to a Warp Whistle.

Level 5

If you have Raccoon power, run down at the slope at the start and fly over the top of the level as a little shortcut. If you don’t take the shortcut, take the upper path and look for a pink note block above a small slope. The coin heaven is the same as the one in level 3. After the second group of coins, fly up and try to get the 1-Up.

Level 6

There’s a 1-Up in a block in the group of blocks. After that there should be a platform with a rail lift below it. You can use the platform as a runway if you have Raccoon power. Then you can just fly over the last part of the level.

Hammer Bros.

There’s just one lonesome Hammer Brother. Just jump at the block he’s standing on to finish him. A Starman is your reward.

Doomship

Just avoid all the Bullet Bills, cannonballs, and other booby traps until you reach Larry. Jump on him three times to beat him. Your reward is a P-Wing.

Desert Land

Map: At the rightmost point on the map, go to the upper right corner and use the Hammer that you can win from one of the Boomerang Bros. on the map. It will reveal another area of the map that has a Toad House which always gives you a Frog Suit, plus the Fire Bros. who guard a Warp Whistle.

Level 1

Above the first purple pipe structure is a pipe you can fly to. Inside is a P-Switch. Hitting the P-Switch will make some hidden coins appear. If you go down the last pipe in the level it will take you to another P-Switch room. Hit it and head up the other pipe to find a few more coins. You can re-enter this room and keep getting more coins until time runs out.

Level 2

Try to get every coin in the level to receive an Anchor. Be sure to get all the normal coins before hitting the P-Switch. To reach the P-Switch, ride the rail lift to two blocks you have to duck under. In one block is a coin, the other one has the P-Switch. If you need to, go back to where the rail lift starts to get another one if you need it.

Fortress

There are no secrets here. Just dodge all the Thwomps, Boo Diddlies, and Spikes until you make it to Boom Boom. Jump on him three times to defeat him.

Boomerang Bros.

There are two Boomerang Bros. on the Desert Land map. Each one travels solo. To defeat a Boomerang Brother, just dodge his boomerang and jump on him. A fireball works even better. One Boomerang Brother has a Music Box, the other has a Hammer.

Level 3

After the third pyramid of orange platforms, fly up to the right to find to block platforms. One has some coins on it, the other has a P-Switch. You can also reach the platforms by looking for hidden note blocks above the brick blocks on the ground. When you hit the P-Switch, drop down and get as many coins as you can. There is a block containing a 1-Up within the brick blocks.

Angry Sun Zone

For the first part of the level, the Angry Sun won’t bother you. To get past the cyclone, jump through it at full speed. Shortly after the cyclone, the Angry Sun will swoop down at you to attack. You can kill him with a Koopa shell, but it’s easier just to work your way to the end of the level where he’ll die anyways.

Level 4

At the start of the level, fly up to the upper left corner and break through the blocks to find a secret haven of coins. There’s a P-Switch in the blocks above the water. It’s the third one from the left on the right set.

Level 5

Late in the level, there is an unbreakable block on the ground. It’s unbreakable because you can’t reach it with Raccoon power. But kick a nearby Koopa into it and it will reveal a beanstalk. Climb it and go along the
clouds until you enter a pipe that leads to a hidden room. In the room is a bunch of blocks. The block in the bottom right corner has a leaf. The block directly above the lowest block has a P-Switch

Pyramid

It helps to have Raccoon power in this level. If you need it, enter the pyramid and get a power up from the first ? Block. If it was only a Mushroom, leave the pyramid and come back and it will contain a Leaf. The pyramid is a maze, but getting lost is hard, so directions aren’t necessary. You will then reach a pipe that has some blocks partly surrounding it. You can fly over them or look for a hidden block. The pipe leads to a secret room. There is a P-Switch in the lowest block.

Fire Bros.

You will need the Hammer you received from one of the Boomerang Bros. Go to the upper right most part of the map (just to the right of Level 4) and use your Hammer, revealing a Toad House containing a Frog Suit and a pair of Fire Bros. The Fire Bros. are annoying. It can be hard to dodge their fireballs, especially since there’s two of them. I recommend using a Starman before fighting them unless you think you’re really brave.

Doomship

Pretty much the same deal as with the one in Grass Land. Remember, the cannonballs, Bullet Bills, and Rocky Wrenches are not your friends. When you defeat Morton you will get rewarded with a Jugem’s Cloud.

Water Land

Map: After beating level 4 or 5, use a Hammer on the rock that’s blocking a path to the right. The path leads to a boat the you can use to reach an island with two Toad House and two spade games. There’s also another island with a single Toad House.

Level 1

At the start of the level is a gap. Go down it and it will lead to a Fire Flower. After swimming right from where you start, you’ll encounter a huge structure made out of wooden blocks. Jump on top of it for a shortcut and to get another Fire Flower. Go down the gap after the wooden blocks and bypass the note blocks to a 1-Up.

Level 2

On the first rail lift, you will approach a structure made out of wooden blocks forming an L shape. Jump at the middle block on the left side and a Starman will pop out. You need to be quick and get the Starman before the rail lift platform gets too far away. While your invincible, if you hit certain blocks more Starmen will come out throughout the level. Once you take the warp pipe to the final area, if you still have Raccoon power, you can fly up to some coins before the black area.

Level 3

There’s no real secrets here, but avoid Big Bertha as she can eat you in one gulp, killing you instantly, regardless of any power-ups. The best way to deal with her is to use fireballs, even though she will come back shortly after. If you’re daring, don’t go down the warp pipe, continue over to the right to get a 1-Up first.

Hammer Bros.

There are two groups of two in Water Land. Sometimes they will fight you in an area where there’s shallow water. No big deal unless you're small. You’ll have to swim around though, so it can be annoying. The rewards are a Starman and a Hammer.

Fortress 1

This fortress is full of doors. If you want to get to Boom Boom, take door number 6. If you enter the very last door, you will reach a room with coins and a 1-Up. If you need Raccoon power, enter one of the wrong doors and look for a ? Block. It will regenerate each time you reenter the room. This Boom Boom, as well asseveral upcoming ones, has the ability to fly.

Level 4

If you can’t make the jump across the big pool near the start, swim over to the right and jump up to reveal a secret block. Underneath the upside down pipe are two blocks, one containing a P Switch. Hitting it will make a bunch of secret coins reappear. There’s a 1-Up in one of the blocks afterwards, but that is where Lakitu will find you, so be careful.

Level 5

If you have a Frog Suit, you can go down the third pipe. When you go down, hold right as you fall to reach the large block with three 1-Ups. In the main area, swim up the fourth pipe to find a hidden 1-Up.

Level 6

No secrets here, there is a 1-Up hidden in the blocks with a P Switch near the end though. Just be careful as the screen scrolls automatically.

Level 7

Jump at the top of the stack of wooden blocks at the start to get a Super Leaf. Around halfway through the level, you will find two rows of horizontal brick blocks. In the top row is a beanstalk. Climb it and go over to the left. Hit the P Switch and run over to the left and jump off the clouds. You will see a group of coins and a 1-Up inside, unless you touched them earlier. Climb the beanstalk again and get on top of the block on top of the beanstalk. Jump over to the right onto some clouds. Stand on the middle cloud and jump up to find a pink note block. It will take you to a coin heaven with a Jugem’s Cloud.

Fortress 2

No secrets at all. Just dodge all the ghosts and fish and defeat Boom Boom.

Level 8

Collect as many coins as possible to get a P Wing. You may need help from a Koopa Troopa unless you have Raccoon power. When you reach the P Switch, get all the coins before hitting it so you don’t accidentally break a brick. This is tough thanks to the constantly changing water level and the return of Big Bertha.

Level 9

After the second Bullet Bill Blaster are some blocks sealing off a lower path. If you have Raccoon power or a shell, you can break open the blocks and reach a warp pipe. Go down the warp pipe to reach an underwater area. You can also reach the underwater area by going through the level normally and going down the pipe at the end. In the underwater area, swim as far to the left as possible and go down the pipe. Hold right while going down to reach a Frog Suit. Swim over to the rightmost pipe to exit the level.

Doomship

On this doomship, you will encounter corkscrews. Jump on them to move them over to the right and jump again as soon as you land. If you don’t you’ll fall through. Wendy can be tricky. She’ll start by creating a ring which bounces around the room and never goes away. After one jump she’ll create another ring. On the second jump she’ll create a third ring and jump around the room, making it tough to jump on her. When you beat her you’ll get rewarded with a Music Box.

Giant Land

Map: There’s a rock blocking a Toad House next to Level 1 that always contains a Tanooki Suit. Hammer the rock away and it’s yours.

Level 1

After you reach the pipes with water pouring out of them, fly over them and into the water. Go down the pipe on the left to reach a room with two 1-Ups.

Level 2

Get all the coins to get an Anchor. Be sure to get all the normal coins before hitting the P Switch.

Level 3

To get past the Sledge Brothers, use fireballs, fly over them, or jump at them quickly to avoid getting hurt. In the underground cavern, you can fly up after the block with a power-up. No real secrets here though.

Fortress 1

The moving flames are like Boos. They only go towards you when you face the other way. In the middle of the fortress are five pipes. You can go down the middle one to reach an area with a Fire Flower.

Level 4

Enter the level with a Frog Suit and you can swim into the pipe below the start. It leads to a room full of two P Switches and plenty of coins. The rest of the level involves avoiding a Lakitu and his Spinies.

Sledge Bros.

There are three of them on the map and they can be defeated in several ways. Use a Star or fireballs to make short work of them. Raccoon tails are also good. If none of those are an option, you’ll have to jump on them. The rewards are, a Starman, a P Wing, and a Jugem’s Cloud.

Level 5

Around halfway through the level, you will find a block at the top of the screen. Use a Bullet Bill to help you reach it. It contains a beanstalk. Use another Bullet Bill to get on top. It will lead to a pipe with a Tanooki
Suit and a P Switch. Hit the P Switch and leave to find some hidden coins.

Level 6

If you go through a door, it will make everything that’s large, normal sized, and vice versa. No big surprises so just try to get through the level.

Fortress 2

Once you press the P Switch, you will see some coins forming an upside down U. Stand in the center and press up to reach a secret area. In the first area, you have to make it to the top. Use the platforms with proper timing to do so. In the second area, look for some hidden blocks above the warp pipe to reach a 1-Up. In the third area is a block with three 1-ups and an above area that you can fly too.

Doomship

This shouldn’t be too hard compared to Wendy’s. When you reach the warp pipe, don’t go down it. Wait for a ? Block with a Super Leaf in it to appear. Defeat Iggy the same way as with Larry and Morton. Your reward is a P Wing.

Sky Land

Map: Well, there’s no secrets on the map, other than the Toad House next to Level 2 that always has a Tanooki Suit. However, to get up to the clouds, you must venture up the Sky Tower. To get back down, take the pipe in the clouds.

Level 1

If you can manage to avoid the Chomp and fly above the start, you’ll find a pipe. It leads to a room with another pipe and a small passage. If you squeeze through the passage, you’ll find a Music Box and the level ends. Go down the pipe and you’ll be taken to a secluded area of the level. Fly above the pipe and hit one of the blocks to reveal a P Switch. Press it to reveal a whole hoard of coins in the area below you.

Level 2

Go down the pipe at the start. You will fall out of another pipe. Try to land on a note block and work your way up to the pipe on the right. If you fall, you’ll have to take the longer, boring, and dangerous route, but make it to the pipe and you’ll be in a safer and shorter place. Go down the first pipe you come across to reach a room with a three 1-Ups.

Level 3

Jump at a block while a Kuribo Goomba is standing on it to have him give up the Shoe. Use the Shoe to your heart’s desire, unless you lose it or run out of time. You can’t take it out of the level either.

Fortress 1

When you reach the blocks blocking a path that leads up, you can break the blocks and fly up to a  pipe with some hidden 1-Ups.

Hammer Bros.

There are two sets of Hammer Bros. on the ground area and another pair in the clouds. The ones on the ground have a P Wing and a Starman. The one in the sky hold a Music Box.

Sky Tower

When you reach the area made of breakable blocks, you can find a 1-Up in the top block on the central tower that requires a tail whip to open.

Level 4

You can fly up to a safer path at the start that bypasses most of the level. Avoid Lakitu near the end.

Level 5

Get as many coins as possible to activate the White Toad House that contains a P Wing. There’s also a Tanooki Suit in a pipe near the start. It has some blocks on top that you’ll have to destroy with a shell or tail.

Level 6

There are no real secrets. Just try and stay on the Parabeetles and you won’t have much trouble. Lakitu is waiting to ambush you at the goal.

Level 7.

You can go down the pipe around halfway through the level to reach another area. There’s a Starman here but there’s no real point to it. You can also fly over the right wall to get to the exit. There’s a Lakitu who hangs out near the goal.

Fortress 2

No surprises here. Just make it to Boom Boom and that’s that.

Level 8

A very boring level. Watch out for the Lakitu.

Level 9

This level is tricky as it is moving and Fire Chomps will chase you. If you’re having trouble, you might want to use a P Wing. Your friend Lakitu will be waiting at the goal.

Doomship

A break from the Lakitus, but not an exciting level. It’s filled with cannons. Roy will shake the ground when he lands, so you’ll get paralyzed like when the Sledge Bros. land. Be careful. Your reward is a Jugem’s Cloud. Thankfully Jugem aka Lakitu isn’t in it.

Ice Land

Map: If you beat Level 5, you’ll find a Toad House that always dispense a Hammer Bros. Suit. On All-Stars, the Toad House near Levels 2 and 3 also has a Hammer Bros. Suit.

Level 1

A little bit after the start, you can fly up to the right to reach a room full of bricks and a P Switch. I only recommend doing this if you’re good at sliding and ducking. Work your way over to the P Switch and go back the way you came to grab the bricks while they’re still coins. You will have to be quick.

Level 2

It’s a moving platform level. There’s a 1-Up in a block if you’re risky enough to go after it. In the area at the end, you can melt the ice containing coins with fireballs if you have fire power.

Level 3

About halfway through the level, you’ll find a bunch of brick blocks. Hit the one on the left to reveal a beanstalk that leads to a room with a Tanooki Suit. You can also fly up to the left to find a few more coins.

Fortress 1

Just be careful here. There’s a Starman not too far from the Boom Boom, but you won’t get much time with it. Some people claim they can make it to Boom Boom and kill him at the last second in one hit. Above the block with the Starman is a 1-Up you can fly to.

Hammer Bros.

There are three sets of Hammer Bros. One of them has a Hammer, one a Starman, and the other has a Music Box.

Level 4

On the first rail lift, jump up while standing on the right side of the first block to reveal a red Note Block that leads to a coin heaven. Don’t go spinning out of control in the area with all the spinning platforms.

Level 5

Okay, this is quite tricky. Get to the right end of the cave, but don’t go in the pipe unless you need Raccoon power. Now, with Raccoon power, grab a Koopa shell and fly up the rightmost shaft and use the shell to defeat the Nippers. Go through the pipe they were blocking to reach the goal. This level is much trickier than it seems.

Level 6

In the cave, take the upper path at the start to find a Fire Flower. Bounce at one of the wooden blocks at the start of the lower path to find a Starman. There’s not much else in this level.

Level 7

Get all the coins on this tricky moving course to get a White Toad House with an Anchor.

Fortress 2

This straightforward fortress has no secrets. The place is made of ice, but that’s obvious.

Level 8

Near the end, there’s a P Switch in a block. Hit it and fly up to reveal a bunch of coins.

Level 9

In this watery level, there’s a pipe you can go down if you’re wearing a Frog Suit. The pipe is guarded by a jet stream. It leads to a room with three 1-Ups. The exit to the level is in one of the rightmost pipes.

Level 10

Find the frozen Munchers that are on top of a pipe. Thaw them out. Now, go back to the stack of blocks and find the beanstalk just left of it. Climb the beanstalk to reach a P Switch. Press it and get back to the Munchers, which should now be coins while the switch is in effect. Go down the pipe to a room with a Hammer Bros. Suit.

Fortress 3

You should just want to get through this fortress as quickly and safely as possible. When you go through the door, you’ll be in a special room with three Boo Diddlies. Stare at them so they won’t chase you, and wait for the exit leading to Boom Boom to appear.

Doomship

This doomship is kind of quick, so it isn’t hard to get scorched by the exhaust flames. When fighting Lemmy, watch out for the balls and don’t let him roll into you. Your reward is a P Wing.

Pipe Land

Map: Well, the map will take some getting used to, but you probably won’t get lost. The Toad Houses near levels 5 and 8 will give away either a Frog, Tanooki, or Hammer Bros. Suit.

Level 1

This level may seem confusing at first, but if you work your way up, you’ll reach the exit.

Level 2

If you can collect all the coins, you’ll get a White Toad House with a P Wing. You’ll need a Frog Suit for some of the coins in the water. Go down one of many pipes that lead to the water to get there. Swim to the left, hit the P Switch, then scoot over to the right and snatch the coins. The rest of the level is tricky, but not impossible.

Level 3

In the block at the start, there’s a Starman. If you can reach the next
block with a Starman while still invincible, you’ll get another Starman. You
can keep doing this until the end of the level, or if the invincibility
wears off. You’ll want the invincibility to be safe from the stupid Lakitu.

Level 4

If you enter this level with Raccoon power, you can fly over the wall at the start to find two 1-Ups. If you use a Frog Suit, this level will be easier to navigate, as it’s a moving underwater level. There’s also a mess of
Jelectros you have to maneuver through too.

Level 5

This level may seem a bit confusing at first, but remember, it’s optional. Just keep working your way through to reach the exit. You will probably do some backtracking too. No real secrets though.

Piranha Plant Sector 1

This is a lot easier if you start the level off with invincibility. Work your way through and a P Wing is your reward. You can put the Piranhas to sleep with a Music Box to bypass these levels!

Fortress 1

This Fortress’ only enemy is Boom Boom. You will need to fly to reach him. To get a Tanooki Suit, look for a P Switch in the first room. It is near the center. Hit it, and go through the door that appears on the platform near the switch. Go down the pipe in the next room to reach the Tanooki Suit. Go through the pipe and then go through the door to reach the long room. Run over to the far left and fly up into the pipe to meet Boom Boom.

Level 6

If you have a P Wing you can fly over this whole level. This level is similar to level 1 for those of you who want to take the long way. The only major difference are the Arrow Platforms.

Level 7

Keep hitting the blocks to find Starmen that will be your only hope for this Muncher-infested level. Just keep going until the end.

Level 8

Halfway through the level, there is a long upside down pipe. Jump at the right side to reveal a Red Note Block that leads to a coin heaven. Go down the pipe near the Red Note Block to find a room with a Hammer Bros. Suit.

Level 9

This level is a maze. At the start, work your way up and go across. Ignore the first place that goes downward and go down at the second area. Work your way over to the pipe that leads to the goal. Easier said than done.

Fortress 2

This place is a deathtrap! It is hard to navigate thanks to all the enemies. You can find a Starman that will make your life much easier for a while. Good luck! You might want to save a Jugem’s Cloud for this level!

Piranha Plant Sector 2

Use the same strategy as you did in the first sector. Remember, Starmen are your friends. Your reward is a simple Mushroom.

Doomship

Ludwig’s doomship features a lot of the corkscrews of previous ships. This ship is faster too, so be careful. There are two power-ups that can be found though. Ludwig can shake the ground when he jumps and is considered the toughest Koopaling. Good luck defeating him! Your reward is nothing! You will get an invitation from Bowser to go to Dark Land and rescue the princess.

Dark Land

Map: Nothing special, but the third area only shows where you’re standing.

Doomtanks 1

Avoid all of the dangers of the level and defeat the lone Boomerang Brother for a Starman.

Doomboats

Same concept as the Doomtanks, but with two exceptions. DO NOT go after the power-up unless you’re small. You can swim in the water and pass under the boats, but be careful not to drown. Defeat Boom Boom at the end.

Hand Trap 1

You will find one of each brother: Fire, Hammer, Boomerang, and Sledge. Get past them to find a Super Leaf.

Hand Trap 2

Avoid the annoying Cheep Cheeps and get to the end to find a Super Leaf.

Hand Trap 3

Avoid the Podoboos to get to the end and the Super Leaf.

Doomship

This doomship moves very quickly. You will have to be very nimble to make it through alive. A P Wing is recommended . Beat Boom Boom if you can make it to the end.

Level 1

A P Wing would be a HUGE help here. Fly up at the start to find a P Switch. It will make a lot of coins appear, so grab as many as you can. Fly up to the pipe at the right and go down it to find three 1-Ups. The rest of the
level is tricky, so good luck to you. Make use of Paratroopas and Bullet Bills and use them as stepping stones.

Level 2

Let yourself get carried down by the quicksand at the start. It will lead to two pipes. The one on the right leads to some coins, the other leads to a Super Leaf. Regardless of which path you take, you will end up on a hill. Keep going up and run down. If you have Raccoon power, you can fly across the gap near the end. Otherwise, use the Paratroopa as a stepping stone. If you don’t go down the quicksand, Angry Sun will chase after you!

Fortress

This level is INSANE! If you’ve saved a Jugem’s Cloud, use it! If not, do the following. Go through the FOURTH door you see. From there, keep going until you reach a brick wall. Drop down and go through the door. Run over to the next door and enter. Pass under the spikes, ignore the door, and jump over to the platform. Keep going as far to the right as you can and you should be at a Thwomp. Sneak past the Thwomp to find a P Switch. Press it and run over to the right wall and go through the secret door. That will take you to Boom Boom.

Doomtanks 2

Same idea as before. Survive your way through to get to Boom Boom and defeat him.

Bowser’s Castle

Well, you’ve made it. Just get through here and you’re done. Just keep going and when you reach the area with the donut lifts, try not to take the lowest path, that leads back to the start. Regardless of any other path you take, you’ll get to Bowser. To beat him, hit him with hammers or fireballs if you have any. If not, trick him into landing on you and dodge him to break away the floor. Have him break a path open to the pit below to beat him. Congratulations! You’ve beaten the game!

Also, if you’re playing on the NES, and you choose to continue, you will start the game again with an inventory full of P Wings!
