Dr. Mario series Info: Back in 1990, Mario seems to have decided to quit plumbing to become a doctor. Mario decided to become a doctor because three killer viruses, Virus Red, Virus Blue, and Virus Yellow, had invaded the Mushroom Kingdom and infected its residents. No one knows what the origins of these viruses are or where they came from. People say Bowser might have something to do with it but nobody has been able to prove it.
For some reason the viruses had no effect on Mario and Peach, who set out to cure the viruses and get the Mushroom Kingdom back to normal. They quickly found out that the cure was to match up the viruses with Megavitamins of the same color. The origin of the Megavitamins, like that of the viruses, is also a mystery. They are rumored to be Mario's life-long research to find a cure to the common cold, but how could a plumber hope to cure the common cold? Another mystery; Nintendo should explain Mario's doctor career a little more.
After Mario and Peach cured the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario gave up being a doctor until the late 1990's, when he teamed up with Wario to make sure the viruses didn't steal the Megavitamins. Several Wario Land bosses also tried to steal the Megavitamins but posed no threat to Mario or Wario. Since then, Mario has gone back to plumbing, leaving the medical profession to others.
Super Smash Bros. Melee Info: After the first Super Smash Bros. tournament, Master Hand was furious and set out to make a challenger as physically fit as the champion, Mario. He decided to do some research on Mario so that he could find a weak point that would allow him to easily defeat Mario and conquer Nintendo Land. Master Hand couldn't find a weak point, however, so he decided to make a second clone of Mario, his Metal Mario being the first clone. He looked at all of Mario's transformations and found one that was as physically fit as Mario himself: Dr. Mario. One night while Mario was asleep, Master Hand sneeked over to steal a thread of hair so he could clone him.A
After successfully cloning Mario, Master Hand set up another Smash tournament. Mario soon completed Classic Mode and went to Peach's Castle to brag about his victory. When he got there, he saw Peach and the castle Toads tied up and gagged. He was sooned rushed by his clone, Dr. Mario, who demanded a one-on-one battle. The two Marios were nearly evenly matched, but Dr. Mario was slightly slower than the original, albeit stronger, and Mario was able to use this to advantage.
Master Hand gave Dr. Mario two more chances in Event Matches. In Event Match #35: Time for a Checkup, he was teamed up with a clone Peach in a white dress, but both lost to Luigi. In Event Match #49: All-Star Match Deluxe, he was teamed up with hidden fighters Master Hand had taken control over but lost to Roy (of Fire Emblem) because Roy was faster and could attack from beyond the doctor's range.
After been defeated three times in a row, Dr. Mario quit Master Hand's forces to join the Smashers. Although he had to beg for forgiveness, the Smashers finally allowed him to join. But he has now dissappeared. Will he ever return?
