Chet Rippo is a lot worse than his brother. Chet tricks poor Mario by raising one stat and lowering the two others. Rip, who sounds more like a rip-off, sells badges that only help you. Chet is seen in Toad Town in Paper Mario but he and his brother were born in a secret hideaway of their parents deep in the Dry, Dry Desert. Their house was destroyed by Bandits and no longer stands.

Chet moved to Toad Town because of not only the tourism, but the closeness to his former home. Dry, Dry Outpost was too small and barren for him. Chet despises the item shop and badge shop but still supports them. He knows that if they get badges, they'll need points and to use items, they need health enough to risk the turn.

Chet is a weird cloaked-bird creature and his voice does not reflect it. Chet sounds like a normal citizen except for his hoarse, whispering voice and style of talking. Chet's unique voice, not matching what you'd expect a bird's voice to be, makes the customer feel more related to Chet and start to trust him more.

Chet's biggest secret is that he and Wario were once in affiliation with each other. They were part of an underground bandit group but when Wario found out about the Mushroom Kingdom, he quit for the bigger prize. Chet quit to help his brother's badge shop but left that also after a debate over pricing.

Chet no longer has a house and takes only small naps in the Toad House. He also has no medical care and only eats prizes, but never spends his money. Chet, when tourists are low, lives off Goomnuts he steals at night from Goomba Village.

Chet still is in the business, but is planning on going back to the shop with his twin. No one knows his whereabouts now, but he is not in Toad Town.
