Personality: Goomba is very kind-hearted and loves to have fun. He enjoys having parties and playing all manners of sports with his new friends Mario and Luigi. However, he's also a gambler at heart. He runs a casino in the far side of Grass Land, so he can be quite tricky when money's at stake.
History: Goomba was one of many Goombas in King Bowser's Koopa Troop. He was the best of the best, the cream of the crop, the- oh, you get the picture. Goomba was high above the rest in the army, so Bowser decided to make him ruler of the first castle in Super Mario Brothers. Even in his Bowser suit, however, Goomba stood no chance against the mighty plumber. Goomba went down, falling into the lava. After Mario left, though, Goomba mustered the energy to hop out of the lava just in time to save himself.
In Super Mario Brothers 3, Goomba was under the watchful eye of none other than Larry Koopa. He was sent to Grass Land's first level to pulverize Mario into submission. He was the red Goomba, by the way. What he didn't expect was Mario's new Raccoon power. He was stomped yet again by the plumber and was sent back to Bowser's castle.
Super Mario World came and went, but Goomba was nowhere to be found. By accident, Goomba was left behind at Bowser's castle. Nobody was there, save a few Magikoopas and Koopatrols, so Goomba thought he'd have the perfect chance to try something new. He saw some Koopatrols playing a strange sport with the leg of a Dry Bones and a Podoboo. It seemed they were trying to hit the Podoboo out of the castle. Goomba looked quizzically at the two throwing and hitting. Goomba asked to play, and the Koopatrols kindly let him. As soon as Goomba hit the Podoboo with the Dry Bones's leg, WHAM! Out of the castle it soared, landing somewhere in the distance. Goomba decided to take up this new sport, known as baseball.
After retiring from the sport of baseball, Goomba thought he would try to make some moolah. So, he took advice from the biggest money-maker in the kingdom: Iggy Koopa. Iggy had a casino, and he raked in tons of cash every day. Goomba wanted to know how he did this, and Iggy gladly shared his secrets with the inquisitive fungus. A week later, Goomba started his own casino in the dungeon of the castle. It was simple--the old cup and ball trick was his only game--but nonetheless, he raked in the cash from the playful guards. In a month, Goomba had enough to start a real casino. He built one in the far side of Grass Land, over by the Toad House, and he was swimming in coins.
In Mario Party 4, Goomba was invited to help host a big party. Goomba gladly accepted, and began working on a suitable party board. Knowing very well that they could easily get Stars on any other board, he decided to make his board pure luck. Mario and his friends had quite a hard time trying to get the Stars there, and Goomba was very pleased. Very soon, he came to make friends with Mario and the gang, and to this day they've been living in harmony. Goomba now lives in a small soiree on the coast of Grass Land, livin' it up the way he likes it.
