Have you ever been left out of a group project or not invited to a birthday party? This was what the life of Waluigi all about. He wasn’t known until the late 90s, where he appeared in Mario Tennis for the N64. How did all of this rejection start out?
Waluigi’s birth date is unknown. We have no idea if he’s Wario’s twin, or younger or older than him. However, we know that they do share the same blood. As they grew up together, major differences could be seen between the two. They both were spoiled, as they had a rich family. They loved playing sports. Baseball, football, tennis, you name it! However, Wario just did things without thinking much of it while Waluigi took the time to strategize. This could be seen throughout videogames. In battle games, Waluigi used strategic combos, while his brother just mashed buttons. Waluigi was especially good at the military games.
In early school, Waluigi’s strategic knowledge also showed intelligence. He was highly advanced over the other kids, and the teachers loved him. However, the kids started to make fun of him. He didn’t play many sports anymore, and it started to show in Gym and Recess. He wasn’t fat, as he didn’t eat much either. Waluigi finally broke down once even Wario started to avoid him, as Waluigi was “ruining Wario’s cool”. Waluigi finally decided that he had to be cool.
Starting in Middle School, all he did was play sports. However, he didn’t do his homework at all. Here is where he started to cheat; taking people’s papers from the bus, etc. He had wise comments for every class, and if he got hyper, would swear or do something very inappropriate. He was the teacher’s worst nightmare. As the Middle School held kids from three other towns, he could make new friends that didn’t know his “un-cool self” from before. This caused the problem of peer pressure. The friends pressured him to do bad things, like smoking and other horrible things.
He graduated from High School, but had a terrible incident with one of his new addictions. He had many years of hospitalization, while his brother became a superstar. During a period when Wario wasn’t busy (early Nintendo 64), Wario set off on an adventure to a far away land. He ended up finding a beautiful pot that could be worth millions. Wario suddenly got a call from the hospital that his brother was on the verge of dieing. Wario flew to the Center immediately, and shared the joy of opening the treasure with his beloved brother.
Inside of it was the wonderful legend of the Golden Mushroom. It was said to be able to heal anybody instantly from a physical illness. Nobody else was in the room to see this wonderful treasure. He fed it to Waluigi quickly, but then had to leave the room, as Wario’s visitor time was up. The next day, Wario was awakened by a call saying that Waluigi was doing better then he ever had! Waluigi could remember everything he’d done, but still had to overcome the addictions of what he had started. He used his time instead by gambling and other adult things.
Waluigi got over his addiction, and his brother taught him all of the basics of stardom. Waluigi understood, but ignored the Press Lesson, as Wario had gotten in trouble many times for saying things to the press. This is the reason why you barely hear anything Waluigi says. Waluigi’s debut was when Wario needed a partner for the Mushroom Kingdom Tennis Tournament. Waluigi also helped out a friend Paratroopa in tennis. The Mario producers loved his mystique, and rivaled him up with Luigi immediately. His athleticism from playing sports, and his strategic moves also made him a candidate for other Mario multiplayer games, like Mario Parties. In Mario Party Three, they even let him make his own Island, dew to his late appearance.
On Gameboy Advance, Waluigi hasn’t appeared much. However, Mario gang producers made him more unknown for an unlockable appearance in a classic Mario genre. Next, he moved onto GameCube. Of course, Waluigi appeared in the Mario Parties. He was also called in to play Mario Kart Double Dash. He got more respect from his brother, as Wario gave him his Stadium from Mario Kart 64 to own. Waluigi changed it up to make racers think more, with fire rings and Piranha Plants. Waluigi is also in Toadstool Tour, Power Tennis, and Superstar Baseball, where his strategy shows in his Power hit. However, he gained a lot more respect in Super Strikers, where he got to be the leader of his own team!
On the DS, Waluigi wasn’t allowed to join the reunion of Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi, in Mario 64X4, but did appear in the next Mario Kart game, Mario Kart DS. Here, his track is a strategic arcade game, a pinball machine! There is also a lot in store for this misunderstood character, as he will appear in more Mario Party and sports games. Perhaps he’ll even get his own game one day. All in all, Waluigi says that he would like to be remembered for showing that you can change from a Zero to a Hero, if you follow your goals and try hard. He also wants to be remembered for getting out of peer pressured addictions, and does not recommend it to others. Think of Waluigi as another role model for the children, not a geeky, tall idiot scared of everything for not being there in the early days. Waluigi has finally earned his spot with the Mario gang, one of the cool guys.
