With eight Stars in their hands, Mario and Luigi found themselves in the main room of the castle. They had just quit Whomp's Fortress.
Luigi: I told you, Mario, the stupid owl doesn't have any Stars!
Mario: Well, you never know. And at least we killed him so he won't pop up again.
Suddenly, a voice boomed:
???: MARIO! LUIGI! GO TO THE BIG STAR DOOR UP THE STAIRS!
Luigi: Why?
???: BECAUSE IT'S COOOOOL.
Luigi: Works for me.
The two headed up the stairs and to the left. The door opened up automatically.
Mario: Cool, just like Star Trek!
Luigi: Err, yeah. There's a painting ahead, maybe it's Peach's Cake Land or something.
They headed up the stairs and began to see the picture change. Luigi stopped, but Mario ran along anyway.
Luigi: Mario, it's a...
Mario fell into the trap door.
Luigi: ... trap. Oh well, better follow him...
Luigi hopped into the mysterious trap door and met Mario on a giant Lego-like platform. As they looked around, they saw a giant hovering castle-type puzzle.
Mario: This doesn't look Peach's Cake Land.
Luigi sighed and walked down the huge platforms that made steps. They crossed a narrow balance beam and encountered a machine that shot out fire. Luigi ran up the hill and didn't notice it, but managed to jump over it in time. Mario ran right into the flame.
Mario: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
(Luigi health: 8/8, Mario health: 6/8)
Luigi: Hey look, we have health meters all of a sudden.
They continued past the flame machine to see two platforms that connected to the next part of the level. They are moving in a square-like pattern. Luigi walked across safely, staying on one then hopping off the other side. Mario, on the other hand, wanted to showcase his skill and long jumped right into a wall next to Luigi.
Luigi: You stupid...
They saw a huge wall, and a platform hill next to it. It connected to another hill going in the opposite direction, connecting to the top of the wall. The two walked up both hills, avoiding a flame-machine in between. At the top of the hill lay a ferris-wheelish structure that allowed access to the other platform.
Mario: I'm gonna long jump it again!
Luigi: No Mario!
Mario ended up long jumping right into one of the rotating platforms, and fell off the side of the entire thing.
(MARIO OUT)
Luigi: Guess I'll have to wait for him to come back...
Luigi hopped onto one, then hopped onto the other platform and waited for Mario to come back. In a matter of seconds, Mario was back.
Luigi: How'd you come back so quickly?
Mario: MAGIC!!!
Luigi: ...
They continued to walk along the platform, shortly after arriving on a circular orange platform with many Goombas. They just ignored them and walked along the narrow bridge.
Mario: But Luigi, I wanted to make friends with one of them!
Luigi: Quiet.
They studied the next path. It twisted twice, was narrow, and had crystals along the sides. Spinning around some of them were Amps, balls of energy. They walked along carefully, and in the end, Mario got fried four times, and Luigi twice.
(Mario health: 4/8, Luigi health: 6/8)
Mario: Those balls seemed nice!
Luigi: Look, a ! box. Let's get it.
Luigi waited for a platform to stick out from inside the platform across them, allowing them to cross. They got the ! box and the coins inside, then jumped onto the walkway across it. (Mario health: 6/8, Luigi health: 7/8)
Mario: Hey, those moving thingies again! I wanna long jump!
Mario was about to long jump, but Luigi held him back.
Luigi: It's way too long, you numbskull. In fact, it's four of them... this could be tricky. So I'd better help you.
Luigi picked up Mario. He then crossed the double-paired square-motion platforms and threw Mario onto a Goomba.
Mario: Ow, he bit me...
Luigi: Quiet, we're almost there.
Mario: Almost where?
Luigi: To Bowser.
Mario: We're going to Bowser?
Luigi: Yeah... I guess... maybe.
They next saw a platform only held by a small piece of wood in the center. As they jumped onto it, it began to tilt.
Luigi: RUN!
They ran across it, jumping onto the next one just before it was too vertical. They hopped onto the last one, then finally onto the end. Below then was another platform with some Goombas, then a ! switch above it. There were some steps to get to the ! switch.
Mario: LONG JUUUMP!
Mario managed to long jump and make it onto the switch. Luigi knew he couldn't go the right way in time to catch up, so he long jumped after Mario. They hopped above the stairs, and finally reached a pipe.
Luigi: Let's go in, then.
Mario: YAY!
The two hopped in, and landed on a long circular platform. There were bombs at each pole. Also behind them was a Bowser that was twice as big as them.
Bowser: Welcome, I will destroy you, etc.
The two ran around, trying to figure out what to do.
Luigi: I got it! We have to throw the bombs at Bowser!
Mario: Maybe- AHHHHH!!!
Mario dodged out of the way of a fireball that Bowser shot out. Luigi tried to pick up a bomb, and exploded.
Luigi: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
(LUIGI DOWN!)
Mario: Hmm... well... that's no good.
Finally, Mario's tiny brain clicked. He ran around and grabbed Bowser's tail, and began to spin him around.
Mario: If we can't throw bombs at you, maybe we'll throw you at the bombs!
Mario hurled Bowser as he screamed.
Bowser: WHY DID I PUT BOMBS IN MY BATTLING AREA?! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Bowser hit one with great power, then went flying backwards.
Bowser: Arrgh... that hurt... I must go recover... but I'll be back!
Bowser disappeared, leaving behind a key. Just before Mario could grab it, Luigi landed back on the battle ground.
Luigi: Not... a word.
Mario giggled, then grabbed the key.
Mario: Here we gooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Luigi: Who are you talking to?
Mario: I dunno.
Luigi gave him a funny look as they
warped back to the main room in the castle.
