Mario and Luigi had been playing jacks on the castle's second floor as this part of the journey started.

Luigi threw the ball down at an angle, and it bounced sideways right into a Skeeter painting and through it!
Luigi: Who would have thought that this gigantic painting, which was the first we saw after climbing all those stairs, was a level?
Mario: Let's jump in! No, wait! For style, let's Backwards Somersault in!
Luigi: Deal!
So the Mario Bros. Backwards Somersaulted in, and came upon the extremely flooded Wet-Dry World!
Bob-omb Buddy: Welcome to Wet-Dry World! Swim over here!
So, from the high water, the Mario Bros. jumped simultaneously onto the Bob-omb Buddy's platform.
Bob-omb Buddy: You know, many people don't find out at first that to raise the water level to its highest, and reach me, they have to Backwards Somersault in here!
Mario: WE found a hidden secret by luck?
Luigi: How way past cool! (Sonic reference)
Mario: So, Bob-omb Buddy, we have two questions for you. First, where did our jack ball go?
Bob-omb Buddy: It's floating near the arrow lifts.
Luigi: Second, where is the nearest Star?
Bomb-omb Buddy: Well, the easiest ones are in the Downtown area, but the cannon's not working properly and even though I can open it, it won't shoot you over far enough to get there.
Mario: Hurry it up! You're sounding like Morton!
Bob-omb Buddy: Okay, okay! There's also one close to where your jack ball went! Either use the arrow lifts to reach it after hitting the crystal on a stone structure higher than the dock, or find the hidden warp which will take you near there! You have to hit the crystal under the long slope to find the latter!
Luigi: How about you hop onto one of the arrow lifts so you find one way to the Star and then I'll find the warp! That way, one of us will get to the Star, rub it in the other's nose, and do a victory saying and speech!
Mario: Deal. But you're sounding like Morton too!
Luigi: Sorry.
So Mario lowered the water level to the level with easy arrow lift capability after diving underwater. After Mario was on the platform that the first arrow lift always passes by, Luigi lowered the water level to the ground floor after diving underwater. Wait a second! Is this some kind of conspiracy? I'm sounding like Morton too!
After Luigi lowered the water level, Mario knew he had to be careful. There were Amps spinning over the lifts, and one fall would send him down to the ground floor!
Some seconds later...
Mario: OOOOOWWWEEEEEEEEEE!
Yes, Mario had fallen. He decided to help Luigi find the warp. And find it they did! It was in the nook at the steps leading to the crystal that raised the water to normal height. Soon they were at the cannon, which was right above the platform with the jack ball and a ! Box that held the Star!
Luigi: I'm going to jump to the platform below!
But Luigi overshot and it was his turn to fall to ground floor. Meanwhile, Mario carefully lowered himself down to the platform. He picked up the jack ball first, then put it in his pocket. Afterwards, he got the Star!
Mario: And now my new victory speech! Ahem. Four score and seven years ago...
Luigi: Just let us warp out before Mario
