Lakitu focuses in on Mario and Luigi on the second floor of the castle. Mario and Luigi are attempting to find other levels around the castle…
Mario: So, all we have to do is jump with all our might into each of these paintings. I’m sure one of them is a secret level.
Luigi: Ok, here goes!
Luigi jumps head-first at the replica of the Bob-omb Battlefield painting.
SMACK!
Luigi: Ow… My head…
Mario: We saw that painting downstairs! That was the first painting we jumped into. Maybe we should find paintings we haven’t seen before. *looks around* Oh, there’s one! Some sort of cliff with Mushroom stalks?
Mario dives head-first into the painting. Luigi attempts to follow, but is still quite dizzy from his encounter with a real painting. He trips before jumping and enters the painting upside-down. They both materialize on Tall, Tall Mountain, and Luigi lands on his head.
Luigi: Urk! It’s just not my day today.
Mario: Woohoo! A new level! Wow… this cliff looks tall. Luigi, I hope you’re not scared of heights, because we’re going to scale this mountain!
Luigi: Gee… fun. Hey, a cookie!
Luigi rushes over to a Goomba, who jumps up and kicks him in the face.
Luigi: Ow… by dose… I’ve never seen such a violent cookie. I don’t like this level, let’s just get the Star and get out of here.
The Brothers proceed to follow the course past the waterfall and up to the large gap.
Mario: Ok Luigi, remember your long-jump skills!
Mario safely long-jumps over the two large gaps. Luigi does the complete opposite, and lands face-first in the centre of a ring of coins. He gathers the coins, climbs back up, and attempts the jump again, this time successfully.
Mario: Finally. Luigi, look at these tall Mushrooms!
Luigi: I could go for some Fried Mushroom right about n- *SMACK*
Mario: We’re not here for Fried Mushrooms! Remember, Princess Peach has a cake waiting for us when we save her!
Luigi: Ok, ok, don’t burst a blood vessel. Let’s keep going.
Mario and Luigi run past the large Mushrooms, and quickly dash past the rocks being thrown at them. Well, this is what Mario does, anyway… Luigi manages to get hit by each mole in turn, before tripping and crashing into a Bob-Omb who explodes in his face.
Luigi: Guh…
Mario ignores Luigi and continues up the course, past the Chuck-ya and over to the monkey’s platform. Luigi has a hard time getting past the purple creature, and ends up being thrown into the wall six times before being chucked towards Mario. Mario, in the meantime, bends down to pet the monkey, when Luigi comes crashing over his head, into the monkey.
Monkey: Ukkiki… wakkiki… kee kee! Ha! I snagged it! It’s mine! Heeheeheeee!
The monkey grabs Luigi’s hat and starts parading around the Brothers with it.
Luigi: Give me my hat back, you little chimp!
The monkey bounds up to Luigi, smacks him in the face, and rushes away quickly.
Luigi: Ow… Mario, get my hat back!
Mario: Help me corner him!
The Brothers manage to trap the monkey in a corner, but he jumps over their heads. Mario swiftly grabs the monkey’s tail.
Monkey: Ackk! Let… go… You’re… choking… me… *cough* I’ve been framed! This cap? Oh, all right, take it. It’s a cool cap, but I’ll give it back. I think it looks better on me than it does on you, though! Eeeee! Kee keee!
The monkey gives the cap to Mario, who hands it to Luigi.
Luigi: Whew, thanks. Let’s get on with the course quickly.
Mario: You stay here and avoid the monkey. I’ll roll that log over so we can cross.
Mario jumps on the log and rolls it to create a path between the two platforms, which he crosses. Luigi follows, miraculously without tripping.
Luigi: Ok, I am officially sick of this level. I’m going to sit here and wait for you to get the St-
A large ball suddenly comes crashing down on Luigi’s head.
Luigi: Grr… LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
Mario: That won’t happen if you hurry up and help me finish the course.
Luigi: Fine, but QUICKLY! I’m so sick of this level.
The Brothers continue along the course, past the rolling balls and over the long gap. They pass a mean-looking cloud.
Mario: Quick! Don’t annoy this cloud!
Luigi: What? It’s just a cloud. *sticks tongue out at cloud* Nyeh, silly cloud.
Cloud: Grrr.
The cloud starts blowing fierce winds at Luigi, who is hurled against the wall at gale-force wind speeds.
Luigi: AAAH! STOP IT! PLEASE! I’M SORRY!
Cloud: Well, if you’re sorry…
The cloud increases the intensity of the wind it’s blowing, pinning Luigi up against the wall.
Luigi: Maaaario! Help me!
Mario comes back, holding a Goomba. He chucks the Goomba at the cloud, which disperses into water vapor.
Luigi: Whew, thanks.
Mario: Didn’t I tell you not to annoy the cloud?
Luigi: Er… well…
Mario: Oh, mamamia! Just follow me.
Once again, the Brothers continue along the path, over the Goomba-laden ivy and past the purple switch, which they both ignore. They amble carefully over the bridge, past the waterfall, and finally reach the top of the mountain.
Luigi: The Star! I’m-a gonna get it!
Mario: Luigi, I wouldn’t if I were you…
But it’s too late. Luigi rushes up to the Star and, as expected, trips, and ends up flying over the edge of the mountain, into the abyss below. He is chucked out of the painting, and crashes into the wall behind him. Mario sighs and walks over to the Star.
Mario: Woohoo! Another Star!
Mario does the obligatory Star Dance. He materializes back in the castle, to see Luigi fuming.
Mario: Luigi, sometimes you should listen to me…
Luigi: …
