The Secret of the Dirty Lake

By Lord Seth

Mario and Luigi go through the giant M on the statue again.

Mario: Let's see... our objective is somewhere in a lake that's dirty.

Luigi: Wow! How do you figure this stuff out?

Mario: That's the name of the level.

Luigi: Oh.

The two go up to the dirty lake.

Mario: Okay, it looks like we have to swim across.

Luigi: Wait, Mario, I'm not sure this is such a good-

Mario jumps in. He then quickly gets out.

Mario: OW! That hurt!

Luigi: I tried to warn you.

Mario: Hang on. I want to get a coin.

Mario runs off. A little while later, he comes back.

Mario: Okay, I'm all healed!

Luigi: Good. Now let's find a way to get to wherever we're going.

Mario: Let's use those lily pads. We can use our FLUDDs to propel ourselves on them.

Luigi: Good idea!

Mario and Luigi jump onto one and try to use their FLUDDs to propel it.

Mario: Oh, great. NOW they're falling apart. Get to another one!

The two jump to another and use their FLUDDs to push that one around. It keeps going on like this until they get to some logs and jump onto them, then get into a cave.

Mario: Wow! Another one of these secret levels.

Luigi: This one can't be too hard, though, right? I mean, it's in the first world and all, right?

Mario and Luigi try to get past the tilting blue and red platforms but screw up and fall. They're transported back to the beginning of the stage.

Mario: Let's try that agian.

Two more tries later...

Mario: Let's try that again!

Mario and Luigi manage to do it correctly this time, and pick up a 1-Up.

Mario: Good. Now we just have to get past that each time, get that 1-Up, and we'll never run out of lives! The rest should be easy.

27 hours of frustration later...

Mario: Gee, who thought THIS level up?

Luigi: A twisted mind, obviously.

Mario: Well, maybe we're getting close. Let's try again.

27 more hours of frustration later...

Luigi: Why don't we just not do this level? I mean, it doesn't matter which Shines we get, right?

Mario: Wrong. We have to get specific Shines.

Luigi: Who's the idiot who thought up THAT rule?

Mario: I don't know. Let's try getting some other Shines, then coming back here.

A few Shines later...

Mario: Okay, we're back. Let's give it a try!

18 hours of frustration later...

Mario: Let's try it again!

Mario and Luigi try again. This time, they FINALLY manage to get past the first batch of blue/red blocks, past the moving cube, past the next moving cube, and past the next batch of blue/red blocks and get to the Shine.

Mario: FINALLY!

Luigi: I still don't get it. Why is one this insanely hard in the first world? And why should we be REQUIRED to do it? Why can't there just be a set amount of Shines we should get, and they can be from anywhere? And why can't there be at least some kind of halfway point in these secret levels?!

Mario: Well, after this, we're through with this kind of stuff, right?

Luigi: Nope! We still have several more of these levels to go!

Mario: Several? More?

Luigi: Yep.

Mario faints.

Luigi: Was it something I said?

Luigi touches the Shine and does the Shine dance. He and Mario are transported back to Delfino Plaza.

Luigi: What's a good way to end this part? (he thinks for a while) L is real 2401!

Mario: (getting up) What does that mean?

Luigi: I have no idea.
