Chapter 6: Left Behind
With Mario, Luigi, and Toad...
The Shy Guys were running way too fast for Mario and the others. Toad tripped over a rock. "Ow!" he shouted.
Mario and Luigi gave up on running and decided to help Toad get back up on his feet.
"Are you okay?" Luigi asked Toad.
Toad, with dirt all over his face, replied, "Yes, I'm fine."
It was getting dark, so the trio decided to set up a campsite.
With Toadette, Goombella, and Yoshi...
These three were still on the beach. They also had a camp set up, food, and they were prepared for anything. Goombella was still looking through her book for an explanation for all of this. Toadette was looking over the map to find where exactly the island was located. Yoshi was eating, of course.
Goombella closed her book and shook her head. She lay back in the sand and listened to the waves rolling by.
"I wonder..." she said, picking back up her book. She scrolled her eyes through the table of contents. "Boos... Boos... Boos..." she repeated to herself.
"Boos?" Toadette asked. "What do Boos have to do with anything?"
"Remember when you said Koopas, Paratroopas, and Boos were the only Bowser minions that could go 20 miles an hour?" asked Goombella.
"Come to think of it, yes..." replied Toadette. She thought a little bit. "Oh! I see where you're going with this!"
Goombella and Toadette began to study the book together.
With Mario, Luigi, and Toad...
"I wonder how the professor is doing..." Luigi stated, after a long pause between the three.
They were all so tired and worn out, they could hardly catch their breath. It stayed quiet for a certain period of time. Usually, Toad would have opened his big mouth by now. Mario looked over at the log where Toad had been sitting. Now Toad was missing.
"Did you see Toad walk off?" Mario asked Luigi.
"No..." said Luigi, looking around, just now noticing that Toad was gone.
Little did they know, Toad had become tired of sitting and doing nothing. E. Gadd was in trouble, and Toad couldn't stand doing nothing about it.
With Toad...
Toad had discovered footprints not too far from camp. He followed them, not knowing where they were leading. He finally reached his destination: the Shy Guys' kingdom. Toad spotted E. Gadd in a large chair being carried around by a few Shy Guys. Toad walked up to him.
"E. Gadd? What are you doing?" he asked.
"Being worshiped!" he replied. "This is the best thing that's ever happened to me!"
"So, you're saying they're not torturing you?" Toad finally asked.
"No!" E. Gadd replied. "I've been living in the clouds!"
The Shy Guys noticed Toad standing near E. Gadd, andd began to chase him off. But, Toad didn't move. He knew that even if he had started to run, the Shy Guys would have eventually caught up to him. Everything then became a blur to him. Toad let out a big cry, calling for help.
With Goombella, Toadette, and Yoshi...
They had then heard a cry from deep in the tropical jungle.
"I think that's Toad! He's in trouble!" shouted Toadette.
"We've got to help him!" said Goombella, throwing her notebook on the ground.
They jumped onto Yoshi's back. "Eat this, Yoshi," said Goombella. She handed him a blue Koopa shell.
"With pleasure!" said Yoshi excitedly.
Yoshi ate it in one bite. He then turned a light blue color and sprouted wings. They started to fly over the fruit-infested jungle.
With Mario and Luigi...
They had already headed out in search for Toad, when they heard Toad's cry for help. They were following Toad's footprints that they had found not too long ago. They followed them all the way to the Shy Guys' kingdom. Toadette, Goombella, and Yoshi landed not too long after them.
"You heard Toad too?" asked Mario.
"Yes," said Goombella. "We've got to find him."
"Let's split up," mentioned Toadette.
They decided to go with Toadette's plan, and they split up.
With Mario and Luigi...
Mario and Luigi were immediately surrounded by the speedy Shy Guys. But then, Mario started to jump on the Shy Guys' heads. Luigi decided to join him, but then two Shy Guys tripped them and began to drag them by their feet to a nearby totem pole. One of the Shy Guys tied them next to Toad.
"There you are!" shouted Luigi.
With Goombella, Toadette, and Yoshi...
Yoshi was now a bright red color. Goombella had apparently given him a red Koopa shell. He blew fire at all the Shy Guys that crossed his path. Yoshi and his clumsy self tripped over a Shy Guy, and Toadette and Goombella flew into the air. They hit the ground. Before they could do anything, some Shy Guys hauled the grounded comrades away. They tied them to a pole along with Mario, Luigi, and Toad.
Yoshi jumped back up in rage. He began to run in circles, spitting fire everywhere. Shy Guys began to jump on him, but he managed to get them off. He eventually managed to hit every Shy Guy.
"Do you think they're dead?" asked Goombella, terrified.
"I don't think so. Just knocked out," replied Mario.
Yoshi untied them.
"Thanks, Yoshi. You saved our lives!" rejoiced Toad.
Yoshi returned to his origanal color.
"Let's get out of here," said Luigi.
"Wait! What about E. Gadd?" asked Goombella.
Professor E. Gadd walked up to them, smiling.
"You all go ahead without me." he said. "I feel as though I belong here."
"Well, okay. If that's how you feel," said Mario.
"We'll miss you terribly," said Toadette with a frown.
"Take this communicater." E. Gadd pulled out an invention made of leaves and sticks, along with a few mechanical devices. "Give me a call whenever you need me."
Mario accepted it. He also restocked
their food supply. They all boarded the ship. They bid their farewells
to the beloved professor as they sailed away.
Chapter 7: The Miracle
After leaving E.Gadd behind, everyone was bummed out. E. Gadd used to keep them on their feet.
"Where to next?" asked Toad.
"Well, there are a few more islands on the way. We'll probably have to stop at each to keep up with our necessities," replied Goombella.
It's been about five days since they left the Shy Guy invested island.
"Hey look! There's something out there!" shouted Luigi from the crow's nest.
Luigi was pointing at another tropical island. Something odd-shaped and pink was jumping up and down, waving at them.
"Birdo!" shouted Yoshi.
Sure enough, Birdo ran to the edge of the beach, where the water met the sand. Mario quickly slowed the ship, and Toad set the anchor.
"Yoshi!" shouted Birdo, sharing the same excitement.
Birdo looked excited to see all of them, execpt for the new face, Goombella. Birdo began to sniff her, but Goombella pushed her away.
"Don't touch me!" snapped Goombella.
Birdo snarled back at her. Then she snapped back into excitement
"Big surprise! Big surprise!" she shouted while running into the trees, beckoning them to following.
They all followed her into the tropical forest. They all ended up in front of a pile of leaves, organized into a nest.
"Home!" shouted Yoshi, pointing at the tree next to them. "Yoshi & Birdo" was carved into it poorly.
Birdo ran into the nest, and started to hug her eggs. There were six of them.
"Eggs are ready to hatch!" she shouted.
Yoshi's eyes began to sparkle.
"Hey! One of them is moving!" shouted Toadette.
Sure enough, the red egg began to wiggle. It soon began to crack open. Out of the egg emerged a little, male Birdo. He was red, and had blue spikes.
"Aw..." said Toad. "What's his name?"
"Yoshi like Lava because he red!" Yoshi exclaimed.
"Birdo like that name too." said Birdo, taking little Lava into her arms.
Right after, a green egg began to shake rapidly. It burst open. Yet another male Birdo emerged. It was green with blue spikes, and a small patch of black, wild hair on his head. He stood up and ran around in circles like a wild animal.
"Boy, that one's wild..." stated Mario.
"Wilden! Thats' a good name for him!" shouted Luigi.
Lava giggled at his little brother, and jumped out of Birdo's arms to play with him.
Four eggs remained, a blue one, a yellow one, an oversized pink one, and a beautiful gold-spotted one.
Then, the Yellow one began to crack barely. Wilden then tripped over it, causing it to break open. A yellow figure flew out and landed on its rear. It was a cute little female Yoshi. She was yellow, and had purple spikes. But she was slightly different. She had a purple belly instead of a white one.
She began to cry. Yoshi picked her up.
"It's okay... Windy," he told her.
She looked up at her father, and smiled. She then yawned, and fell asleep.
"Lava, Wilden, and then Windy. Which do you think will hatch next?" asked Toadette.
Right after saying that, the blue egg cracked open to reveal a blue Yoshi with red spikes. He looked up at Yoshi, and said, "Nh... Nu... Nushi!"
"Aw... his first word! I like that. That's your name! Nushi!" said Birdo.
"... Nushi isn't a word..." added Goombella sarcastically.
Birdo turned and looked at her. She simply gave her a look, and turned to play with Nushi.
The last two eggs just sat there. It was a while before the big pink egg began to hatch. When it hatched, everyone was startled.
"Twins!" shouted Birdo.
One was a female pink Birdo with red spikes. The other was a female pink Yoshi with white spikes.
"They're both beautiful like flowers!" said Yoshi, patting them on the head.
"Let's name them Rose and Lily!" added Birdo.
The two newborns played in some nearby flowers. Lily (the Yoshi) made a ring out of a flower, and placed it on her finger.
Everyone eagerly waited to see what the golden egg would reveal. All of the newborns gathered around the egg, eager to meet their youngest sibling. The egg moved slightly, and slowly began to crack open.
"It's hatching!" shouted Goombella.
Chapter 8: The Golden-Eyed Mystery
The egg continued to hatch. Just as the egg opened, a bright light shined so bright, it was impossible to see your own hand. When the light dimmed, everyone was speechless at the sight of what had emerged from the golden egg.
Golden angel wings covered the newborn. The wings spread and glistened in the sun. A green Yoshi appeared from the angelic features. The Yoshi opened its eyes to reveal eyes so gold, it made Mario and the rest stare in awe.
Yoshi and Birdo gazed in mazament. The newborn's eyes began to glow even brighter when he saw his mother and father. Lava and Wilden stepped closer to their brother. It noticed them, and backed away slowly, with a terrified look.
Birdo stepped up to the Yoshi.
"Those wings... They're golden..." Birdo still stared in awe. "I'll name you Angel."
"That's girly!" Luigi sarcastically shouted.
Yoshi and Birdo turned to both give Luigi evil glares.
"Oh. Sorry..." Luigi replied, taking the hint.
When the couple turned back around, they noticed that Angel was missing. Glancing up, Birdo saw the Yoshi's golden wings glisten as it flew away.
"Wait! Where is he going?" Toad shouted.
"I don't know," Mario replied.
"Well, what are we doing just standing here? Let's go!" Toadette exclaimed.
They began to run in the direction the Angel flew. Yoshi turned to Birdo.
"Birdo, you need to stay here," he said.
Birdo nodded as Yoshi ran off with the others.
With Angel...
The newborn Yoshi continued to fly over the trees. Then, he noticed something shiny, which attracted him to the ground. When he landed, the stomp of his feet caused an earthquake.
With Mario and the rest...
They all flinched when they felteel the slight rumble.
"What was that?" Toad asked, looking around.
"Come on!" shouted Goombella, beckoning them to follow her in the direction the earthquake had come from.
The path led to a dead end.
"Dead end..." said Toad, discouragingly.
They turned around to find three Charging Chucks, ready to throw their footballs at anyone who stepped in the way.
Goombella pulled out her book on Bowser's minions again, and began to scroll through the pages, until she reached her destination.
"Charging Chucks. Watch out for their footballs. And watch out for when they try to tackle you... It takes three jumps on the head to finish them," she finished.
Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi all nodded together and turned to the Charging Chucks, who looked back at them.
"And Yoshi, don't forget your tongue isn't powerful enough for them," Goombella added.
Yoshi jumped into the air, and fluttered his feet really fast, causing him to go higher.
"Hmmmmph!" Yoshi strained, as if it helped him go even higher.
Yoshi flipped, and did a ground pound
on the first Charging Chuck. This caused
Yoshi to bounce back up, and land on
the Charging Chuck again.
Luigi pulled out a feather, which he had been saving for a while. The feather dissappeared into the air, and a cape appeared on his back. Luigi then jumped into the air, flying really high. He held on to the end of his cape, causing it to act like a parachute. When he had reached about forty-five feet into the air, he tilted downward. He zoomed into a Charging Chuck. This made it angry. It threw its football at Luigi, but he easily dodged it. But the Charging Chuck was too fast. Ram! Luigi was tackled to the ground. This made Toad, Toadette, and Goombella jump back. Soon after that, the cape turned back into a feather, then it disappeared.
"Are you okay?" Toadette asked.
Without responding, Luigi jumped onto the Charging Chuck, it ran into the tropical jungle. This left them with two more.
In rage, Mario performed a Mario Tornado on the Charging Chuck that Yoshi had jumped on, knocking it out. The final Charging Chuck looked at them in fear. Mario was just about to perform a Mario Tornado, when it said, "Okay! Okay! I give! I know what you want!"
"You can talk?" Toad asked, intrigued.
"Duh..." said Goombella, giving him a sarcastic look.
"Sorry..." Toad snapped at Goombella.
"What do you mean by 'I have what you want'?" Toadette asked the Charging Chuck.
"Do you have Yoshi's Angel?" Yoshi asked.
"Angel? No, whoever that is." The Charging Chuck put something onto the ground, then ran off.
"A hologram projector?" Goombella looked at it suspiciously. She pushed the button that activated it. They all were suprised to see who was on the hologram.
"Peach?" asked Mario.
"Daisy..." Luigi added.
"What's going on?" Toadette asked.
Peach looked at Toadette, then replied, "This is urgent! You are being tricked!"
"What do you mean?" Toad asked.
Peach and Daisy's surroundings were as if they were locked up in a cellar. Mario has been to Bowser's lair plenty of times, and this room never reached his memory.
"It's not Bowser." Daisy replied.
"Technically it is..." Peach added.
"One. How did you get a Chraging Chuck to bring us the hologram? And secondly, what in the world are you talking about? It's not possible for it to be him and then not to be him..." Goombella stated.
Yoshi looked confused.
"Oh, it's possible, because it happened! It's not Bowser!" Peach went on.
"It's-" Daisy stopped.
Then both of them fell silent. Mario could hear loud footprints in the background coming from the hologram.
"Come and get me, Mario. We'll be waiting..." a mysterious voice then spoke out in an eerie manner.
The hologram then shut down.
Toad, Toadette, and Goombella looked horrified.
"What do you think that voice ment by we'll be waiting?" Mario looked confused, yet serious at the same time. "Bowser Jr? Koopa Kids? He can't be stupid enough to use them against us again. We defeated them millions of times!"
They all heard a rustle in the bushes. They all turned to see Angel. His eyes began to glow a beautiful gold again.
"Why are his eyes glowing?" Toadette finally asked.
"I have no clue," Goombella replied, staring into Angel's eyes.
Then everything went black. They all felt as if they had fallen into a deep, dark sleep. They had a vision. They saw a pair of green, evil eyes turn a rich red. They felt as if they were pushed back up when the vision ended.
"Did anyone else see that?" Luigi asked.
"Those eyes..." Mario stated, answering Luigi's question.
"Do you think Angel had something to do with it?" Toad asked.
"I don't know. Those golden eyes remain a mystery," Toadette replied.
They returned to the nest with Angel. Birdo looked as if she was having a hard time.
"Are you okay? You look harsh..." Goombella asked.
"Kids give Birdo hard time," Birdo replied.
"Yoshi help. Yoshi stay here with Birdo. Yoshi ask you to please leave without him," Yoshi stated.
"But we need you!" Toad exclaimed. Yoshi had been on the team from the beginning. Toad had become best friends with him since then.
"Yoshi must stay. Yoshi father now." Yoshi looked really sad to leave the team. "Yoshi wishes you all good luck on finding Princess Peach and Princess Daisy. Yoshi send Angel to find you so we stay in touch."
"We have to go! The princesses are in deep trouble!" Toadette hastily shouted.
Toad patted his best friend on the head, as tears rolled down his face. "We'll miss you..." he said, with a smile.
As they boarded the ship, Mario thought a bit, the said, "We just lost a great member of our team... I know no one can replace Yoshi, but we must seek a new member."
"But who?" Luigi asked.
"Only time will tell..." he replied.
