In the previous chapters, Mario, Bowser, and Co. started their adventure for the Green Stone. But really Mario and Co. are supposed to get it. Bowser doesn't yet know the code to unlock the safe but he plans on blackmailing Mario to get it when he arrives. But one thing Bowser does not know is that getting to the Ice Kingdom is not so easy, especially when one does not have the ice code found in the Forest of Doom. So let's see what Bowser does.
Ludwig: Please let us in.
Gatekeeper: No, for the 100 time. You must know the code of ice to pass.
Bowser: Is it ice?
Gatekeeper: NO!
Bowser: Is it... cold?
Gatekeeper: Look, I'd love to play 20 question with you, but you're really starting to annoy me. So leave now and come back when you know the answer.
Bowser: Where is the answer?
Gatekeeper: The Forest of Doom. But there is no way you're going to survive in there. Not even all of you can defeat the demon that guards the password.
Bowser: Hahaha! Nobody is a match for the Almighty King Koopa.
The gatekeeper kicks Bowser in the leg.
Gatekeeper: See? Proves my point.
Bowser: I wasn't ready.
Gatekeeper: Fine, go die out there. It's not my problem.
Bowser: Fine with me, but can you tell me where it is located?
Gatekeeper: Sheesh. For a king you sure are lame with directions. Usually a king knows his way even if he is blindfolded.
Wendy: But he's not now, is he?
Gatekeeper: I didn't ask you, little girl! Now go on and play in your dollhouse.
Wendy: Oh you're gonna get it, Mr!
Bowser: Now Wendy, do this sometime else.
Gatekeeper: Ok, so you go north and take a right past Shiver Mountain. Then go through the Crystal Kingdom, take the Star Ferry, and you'll come to a slope. Go down the left slope and it should shoot you toward the Forest of Doom.
Bowser: Ok, go down the right slope. Got it.
Gatekeeper: No, the left...
Bowser: No more out of your mouth, Mister. Come on, kids, on the Piranha Plant.
Gatekeeper: -slope... *sigh*
We join Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi, Toadsworth, and Yoshina at the gate to Wonderland.
Mario: ...So that's how Luigi and I defeated Cackletta.
Yoshi: Wow, fascinating. So what happened after-
Peach: We're here!
Luigi: YAY!
Toadsworth: Bravo!
Yoshi: YOSHI!
As everyone enters the gate, they see stars, sparkles, and a fountain of pure glitter.
Peach: Wow. This is where I want to be queen.
Toadsworth: I am coming here for vacation!
Mario: Look-a! A palace!
As Peach drives around the curve they see a palace. It is bigger then the Crystal Palace and made of GOLD!
Luigi: I wonder if it's real.
King: Of course it's real. My name is King Sparkle.
Mario: Hmmm. You look awfully...
King: Nice. Well thank you, I try my best. So what brings you here?
Luigi: We need the first code for a safe. We wonder if you know what it is.
King: Hmmm... A code safe. Oh, the one left by Luigi's grandfather. I'm sorry, but I'll only give the code to Luigi. Regards from the grandfather.
Luigi: I am Luigi.
King: Well gosh darn it! Why didn't you say so? Welcome to Wonderland. Come on now, don't lag behind. Follow me to my palace.
Peach parks the plant in a spot and they all enter the building. Inside the palace they see gold, silver, fire, water, ice, and glitter.
King: Yes, I know. Some people call this the Palace of Elements. But I like Sparkle Palace.
Mario: Psst! Luigi!
Luigi: What?
Mario: He looks a lot like Crystal King. You know, a Duplighost!
Luigi: Come now, Mario, stop judging people. He might be the brother of Crystal King, only nicer.
Mario: Hmm... I have an idea. HEY DUPLIGHOST!
Toadsworth: Must you be so loud, Mario?!
King: Yes... Oh shoot.
Everyone: *GASP!*
King: Um, I can explain? Look, I am the brother of Crystal King.
Luigi: Ha! You owe me five coins, Mario.
Mario: We never made a bet.
Luigi: Darn. I guess you're not that stupid after all.
Mario: OOH! Let's play tic-tac-toe!
Luigi: I stand corrected.
Peach: But I don't understand.
King: Yes, well Wonderland is home to the good Duplighosts, the ghosts that ran away from training and live here. I made the land since I was the first to run. Crystal King, my brother, stayed behind because Bowser came and kept a close eye on everyone after he heard about the runaways. Yet he doesn't know about this place and if he were to ever enter, we would be goners!
Peach: Why did you keep it a secret from us?
King: Well I didn't know if you were people from Bowser.
Toadsworth: But you don't have to worry if Bowser comes if you keep your disguise on, right?
King: It's not that simple. Ever since he retrieved the Star Rod, he got power all over the land. His first wish was if he ever got near a runaway Duplighost, they would turn to ice! You people are lucky because you're not going through the hardships we are.
Yoshi: Why did you run away?
King: You don't know what training's like! Day after day you're getting smacked with a mallet. You must get up early every day. If you mess up, you're sent in the fire pit for one hour. It's like torture!
Yoshina: You poor thing. How can we help?
King: Well there is a way. I will give you the code if you can find one item. It's called the Doopliss Crown. My cousin was Doopliss, the one that lived in Creepy Steeple. He owned this crown which keeps the form you're in forever. This means I will stay a king and not a Duplighost, which means I won't turn to stone. If you place it on the altar, the whole place will be free. But hurry, who knows when Bowser might find this place?
Peach: Where is it?
King: It is located in the Forest of Doom. But be careful, this place craws with evil. So you must be ready.
Peach: I think we are, right?
Everyone: YES!
Peach: Good, now tell us where to go.
King: Ok, take the ferry down the left slope. Got that?
Peach: Yep, let's go!
King: Hurry back.
Everyone gets on the Piranha Plant.
King: No no no. You will need something better than that to ride.
The king makes a car formed from gold.
Luigi: WOW!!!
Peach: This is a dream car!
Mario: Let's-a sell it for a whopping-a!
Everyone drives to the ferry. When they get there, Bowser spots the Marios.
Bowser: Boy this ferry is bumpy.
Morton: I think I'm going to be sick.
Bowser: NO! It's those Mario Brothers again. Why, they're going to the left toward Wonderland. Ha!!!
Ludwig: Wait, but they came from the right slope.
Bowser: Then that means... NO!!! I want that password!
Larry: Then go in Wonderland and ask them when the next ferry is.
Bowser: I don't get why we must ride actual fairies.
Roy: Yeah, the wing keeps wacking me.
Fairy: Sorry.
As Bowser heads toward Wonderland, Mario
and Co. head for the Forest of Doom.
(Eerie music starts to play as the Marios get off the ferry and walk to the gate of the Forest of Doom.
Luigi: So who wants to go in first?
Peach: It looks kinda dark in there.
Yoshina: Yoshi protect me, ok?
Toadsworth: I advise that we don't...
(Peach gets an angry look on her face.
Toadsworth: Um... that we don't turn around.
Peach: Much better. So Mario, you go first.
Mario goes through the plant-covered gates. He yells from a distance...
Mario: I think it's all right!
Everyone else goes through the gate. They walk very slow for a while, then come to a bridge.
Mario: Ok, I'm not going first this time.
Luigi: Oh yes you are!
Luigi pushes Mario onto the bridge. Nothing happens.
Mario: Phew! Luigi, how could you?
Luigi: Heh! Come on, Mario, you can do it.
Mario crosses the bridge safely. When everyone else comes on, it breaks!
Peach: Yikes!
Everyone but Mario: AHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Everyone manages to grab onto the ropes.
Yoshina: What do we do?
Luigi: Climb!
Everyone starts to climb the rope. The ropes loosen and start to peel away.
Peach: Almost there!
Mario: Grab my hand, Yoshi!
Yoshi: Ok, but hold onto me tight.
Yoshi grabs Mario's hand and Yoshi makes it up. Next comes Peach, Luigi, Toadsworth, then Yoshina. They all make it safely up. Then they resume their journey.
Mario: Boy I'm tired. Anybody have some water?
Peach: Mine turned to sand.
Yoshi: It's too humid in here. Yoshi hot.
Luigi: How are you hot? You spent some of your life on an island.
Yoshi: Yoshi spend time indoors a lot.
Yoshina: Nice try, Yoshi. I know you got too hot and left to live in Ice Kingdom.
Luigi: Oh good, so you know the code to get in?
Yoshi: I wish. They change the code every week. And I moved three months ago.
Luigi: Oh darn. So let's see. We still have three codes to get.
Toadsworth: Look! The forest's palace.
Mario: Let me guess. It's called the Palace of Doom.
Yoshi: Wow, we have a psychic in our group.
Luigi: Don't be dumb.
Peach: Well, we'd better go inside.
Everyone enters the palace and sees a giant statue.
Statue: Welcome to the Palace of Doom. How may I help you?
Mario: Why aren't you scary?
Statue: Oh please. Are people telling you this place is scary? Nonsense. This place was named this because of rumors. Don't ask me why.
Mario: Why?
Statue: Oh, the time that has gone by. Anyway, I believe you came for the three things, right?
Luigi: What three things?
Statue: The Crown, password, and code.
Luigi: You know part of the code?
Statue: Of course I do. But to retrieve the whole package, you must defeat the three demons.
Peach: I knew there were demons.
Statue: Yes, Demon number 1!
A cute little flower comes out.
Mario: Awww! Look how cute it is.
Mario goes up to sniff it and it bites him.
Mario: Mamamia!!! I hate flowers.
Then the flower turns into a giant dragon.
Dragon: Grrrr!
Mario: Silly dragon, Trix are for kids.
Dragon and Everyone: ???
Statue: Yes, the dragon has the power to turn anyone stupid.
Luigi: I thought Mario was already stupid?
Peach: Me too.
Toadsworth: Peach! How could you say that?
Peach: What? I'm just expressing my opinions.
Yoshi attacks the dragon with a kick. Peach uses a heart to stun the dragon.
Toadsworth: HI Y... OH MY BACK!
Toadsworth has broken his back.
Toadsworth: I think I'll go sit down.
Luigi: Eat fire!
Peach: I think he loves fire.
Luigi: That's right, he's a dragon. Well it's up to you, Peach and Yoshis.
Peach smacks the dragon really hard. But the dragon breathes fire on Peach's hair and she runs away crying.
Yoshi: Well Yoshina, I guess it's up to us.
Yoshi trys to eat the dragon and put him in an egg, but the dragon stomps on him. Yoshina starts talking to the dragon.
Yoshina: Look, you oversized meatloaf, I'm the boss here and what I say goes. You think you're so powerful, well think again buddy. I took eight classes of Martial Arts and aced every one. So you go get a bottle, find a crib, and lay in it before I release my anger. And when I do, you don't want to be around me.
Dragon: Whaaaaaa! Boohoo. *sniff*
The dragon runs outside, jumps into the river, and swims toward an island.
Statue: Next demon!
A fluffy white cloud comes out and turns gray. It starts shooting lightning out.
Luigi: This might be hard!
Hurricane force winds start up and everyone is sent flying around the room.
Luigi: (yelling) We need to stop the wind!!!
Mario sticks a cork in the cloud's mouth.
Mario: Ahh. Much better.
Cloud: Grr... Eat lightning!
The cloud shoots bolts of lightning at Mario and he is sent flying out of the palace. He lands in a tree.
Mario: I'm ok!
Peach: What do we do?
Luigi: I have an idea!
Luigi runs and gets a bucket of water. The cloud shoots lightning at Luigi and he holds up the bucket. The lightning repels back toward the cloud and it disippates.
Toadsworth: Yay... Oh my back!
Statue: Very nice. Now you must defeat... ME!!! Bwahahahahaha!!!
The statue turns into a living ninja.
Ninja: Don't think I didn't practice Martial Arts too!
Yoshina: Oh no! We're doomed!
Ninja: Little girl, why do you think they call it the Forest of DOOM!!!
Yoshina: Um, that's a good question?
Ninja: You people scare me sometimes. This means this battle will be easy!
Mario comes bursting into the room.
Mario: CHEATER!!!
Ninja: Excuse me, but I do not cheat.
Luigi: Mario, we know you like to say that, but this is not the time.
Mario: No, really, he is a cheater. Look what information I found.
Everyone goes over to the papers Mario is holding.
Everyone: *Gasp!*
Ninja: Here, let me see.
The Ninja goes over to the papers.
Ninja: Wait, this has nothing to do with...
Then everyone kicks the ninja.
Ninja: OW! You set... ow... me up!
Yoshi: Yes, we did.
Ninja: Fine, fair is fair. Here is the crown. The password is Shiver and the Code is 5. Good luck!
Mario: Yes! I'm the winner!!!
Everyone leaves, jumping all around.
They head back toward Wonderland.
Bowser: Aha, there it is. The Wonderland. Mario was here. Of course if he went to the Forest of Doom, then he knows the code.
Ludwig: Great, then let's find out when the next ferry is.
King: Wow, that was fast. Those footsteps must be them.
The king looks outside and sees Bowser coming.
King: EEEKKK! Not good! What to do? Aha!
The king gathers up all the Duplighosts and they hide in a hatch. Bowser enters the room.
Bowser: Yo, King, where are you?
Not a sound is heard. Then Mario enters the palace.
Mario: Oh no!
Bowser: Mario?!
Peach: What are you doing here?!
Bowser: Look, I don't have time to fight. I heard you went to the Forest of Doom. Now you're gonna tell me everything you know. NOW! What is the password to get into the Ice Kingdom?
Yoshi: We will never tell!
Bowser: Errrg... I never get my way. Fine then, I shall waste my time battling you.
Bowser starts to breathe fire, but then everything starts to melt.
Bowser: What? This isn't how I planned things to work!
The king down in the hatch sees things starting to melt. He whispers to the Duplighosts.
King: Look, everyone, I have an Idea. We will pop out and knock Bowser out of here somewhere else.
Duplighost 1: But we will turn to ice!
King: But we must save Mario! Besides, he has the crown. He could still save us all!
All the Duplighosts pop out but nothing happens.
King: Hey! It must have been a myth.
Bowser: Yikes! Why must you surprise me like that?
King: Attack!!!
All the Duplighosts attack Bowser and the Koopalings. They are then shot out of a cannon and fired to a deserted island know as Skeleton Isle.
Luigi: Wow! Thanks!
King: Yes, I can't believe we followed a stupid rumor. That tells ya never to listen to rumors. Anyway, I believe you have something for me? It should make me a king forever!
Mario gives the king the crown.
King: Yes, finally! Here is the code... 8... Good luck.
Luigi: So we have 5, 8, blank. One more to go.
Yoshina: Yeah, and don't forget the password is Shiver.
Peach: But where is the next code?
King: I believe it is held in Skeleton Isle. You should leave tomorrow because it is a long journey.
Toadsworth: Yes, and I could rest my back.
King: You can stay in the guest room tonight.
Mario: Good-a. I'm tired, let's-a get some rest.
Everyone goes to sleep, getting ready to retrieve the final code. But what will happen to Bowser? Will it be good sailing from here? Find out in the next edition.
